Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

One of the problems I would have with Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor (since I never have seen the attraction) is that the queue area is bound to be not as themed as the pictures I seen of the Florida one (as the one in Florida took the place of Timekeeper/Circle-Vision over there.

However, it would be great to have something else in there by now.

I know bringing Marvel characters to Disneyland would not fly that much with everyone here, but I think Iron Man would be a better fit with Tomorrowland than Monsters Inc. But that's only because I feel that the character of Tony Stark would fit in better as a inventor.

Of course, I wouldn't want Marvel to invade Tomorrowland, but where the characters fit in should be taken advantage of.

Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

Monsters, Inc. and its characters have already occupied a corner of Hollywood Pictures Backlot in DCA. Forgetting for a moment that Finding Nemo and Toy Story entities have already broken this rule, how can Monstropolis exist simultaneously in both parks? How does this make a lick of sense?

By putting a laugh floor in Tomorrowland, is Imagineering conceding that the land itself is a joke? Someone needs to stand up to Lasseter and tell him this is no laughing matter.

Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

Who's bright idea is it to clone one of the worst attractions of all time?

Disneyland has a very large audience of children over 5, unfortunately the suits don't know that.

Plus, this may not be Lasseter's idea just because it is related to a PIXAR property.

What a hideously bad, typically unoriginal idea. I'd prefer they just make DCA into PixarLand and then I could continue to avoid it.

I think Pixar makes awesome films. But that doesn't mean the films make awesome attractions.
I agree talking to te Imagineers at the Expo was an experience you couldnt buy... so great, but they also need to give it time and market it better before it could be more successful, even my diehard Disney friends didnt get what it was by the advertising. Comic-Con took time too...

and as for MILF, i agree BAD IDEA. Monsters barely warrants one attraction at DLR, certainly not 2, and its again a temporary fix like HISTA was, it will be tired in 5 years, but stay for 20. UGH

Ugh... MILF or HISTA... I'd rather just have the building empty and not see any money or resources wasted on these.

I guess we should all be grateful they aren't cloning Stitch's Great Escape!

Knowing Disney, we will be lucky if we can get rid of MILF in 15 years. Rasulo probably thinks this is a viable replacement that will last 30 years.

Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

D23 was fun. The parks pavillion & the pieces from the archive made the trip more than worth it. However I felt the rest of the show floor was rather forgetable. I'm a fan of Disney parks and Disney movies and thats where it ends. So for me I felt the inclusion of Disney paints, carpets, foods, and ABC t.v. all pretty lame. Still though I enjoyed the experience.

Going over to down town disney and getting my discount for drink and food presented a regular problem though. Most servers had to be shown the online printout stating a discount was offered to believe that I was owed one. Being on Disney property I would have expeceted those bars and restaurants better informed of promotions going on. Oh well.

Yipes, just leave Captain EO there... seriously. Yet ANOTHER Pixar-themed attraction in Tomorrowland? And it has absolutely nothing to do with the actual theme of the land. How does "Finding Nemo" and "Monsters Inc." even fit with a futuristic theme. What Tomorrowland really needs are innovative, original rides that cannot be found anywhere else. What it's getting is Pixar's leftover and WDW knock-offs.

We've got Buzz Lightyear, Nemo, and now Monsters Inc. in Tomorrowland. It's slowly evolving into Pixarland before DCA even has a chance to claim that title. It's getting to the point now where DCA and Disneyland actually share themes as far as the Pixar characters. There's still time Disney, save yourself and for cryin' out loud, SAVE DISNEYLAND from the unoriginal, stale Pixar themes that make Disneyland into a type of "Universal Studios of Pixar".

Isn't cloning a bad WDW film-based attraction what got us HISTA in the first place? So, the proper way to get out of that problem is to repeat it?

I'm just hoping this is a red herring thrown Al's way as payback for botching their whole Captain EO/Star Tours announcements.

Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

Let me get this straight: they're replacing an old turkey...with a newer turkey?

Dear god, let me call myself naive for thinking they'd actually replace HISTA with a new and original film based on "WALL-E". Of course, we have to go with quite possibly one of the stupidest and lamest attractions to ever be produced, only triumphed in awfulness by what lies across from it at WDW. (can you believe the two worst WDI-creations sit adjacent to each other?) I hate the fact that in 2011, I have to cringe everytime I go to ride Space Mountain, because of what I'll pass. Yuck!

As for D23 Expo, I disagree with Al that the number of days should be reduced. Four is a perfect number, plenty enough time to let it breathe. I don't see why Disney wants to see the numbers skyrocket into Comic Con numbers (other than $$$), because that would be a nightmare for attendees. The amount on Sunday was perfect. Healthily crowded, yes, but no five-hour lines. I hope they don't get cold feet and decide not to run in next year, because it was a lot of fun, even for the one day I attended. Just anything to see the Parks and Resorts pavillion and talk with Imagineers again. Not to mention be firsthand to see announcements and exclusive footage and stuff like that. (seeing five minutes of Toy Story 3 was the highlight of the entire thing) Please, Disney, do the D23 expo next year! I'm sure attendance will skyrocket after it has been all over the media this past weekend...

Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

I understand the impulse to have it go to Orlando, but this weekend was a prime example of how the Disneyland Resort benefits from being so close to the center of the entertainment industry.

Getting all of the onstage and backstage talent to commit to a multiday schlep to Florida represents a huge disruption in life and work to which a brief jaunt to Anaheim cannot ever compare.

If they build it up to a big enough event, maybe eventually take it on the road, or do a smaller version there. But for a lavish production, it's right where it should be.

Haha... that is too funny.
I am not sure how I feel about the Laugh Floor thing. My gut reaction is that it is not a good idea. It will get old real fast, and we are back to where we started. Tomorrowland needs something fresh, new and futuristic!!

I also do not think they should decrease the number of days of the Expo, but the every other year thing might be a good idea. (Even though I missed out on this year and don't really want to wait until 2011!!)
I think the crowds for the next D23 Expo will be larger than this year, because people were not sure what it was all about, etc. I for one didn't know how cool it would be either until the week it started!! (And if I had even had an inkling Johnny Depp was going to be there... anyway, I digress...)
My husband and son were lucky enough to attend Sunday's Expo and they had a blast. (My son loved the Toy Story 3 theing the best too!! He couldn't stop talking about it...) Now my whole family is excited to go next time, so better start saving for tickets now!!
