Also, they aren't used for JUST New York, I've seen the same street on Paramount dressed as New York, San Francisco, Boston, and Chicago.
The Hollywood Reporter wrote today that a lot of things on Universal's NY backlot schedule are moving over to Warner Bros.' NY street.

The Hollywood Reporter quoted a uni spokesperson who said "it was a 20 year old exhibit, but some attraction will be built in its place."

In other words, we'll spend the insurance check on a new attraction, it just might not feature King Kong.

From H'wood Reporter:
"'We plan to rebuild and replace everything that was lost,' the Uni spokeswoman said. 'Will we replace the King Kong attraction? I don't know, because it was a 20-year-old exhibit. But we will create some guest experience in its place.' "

Something will be built on that spot, presumably for the tram... but I don't think Universal knows what it'll be yet. There's only one aerial shot I've seen of Kong (news blackout on that spot?)- the soundstage looks stripped down.

Thanks for finding the exact quote.

They probably wish WATER WORLD burned down so they could start over on that one. Kong was still semi relavant and a fun surprise along the tour.

But something more exciting based on one of Universal's other movie properties: http://www.imdb.com/company/co0005073/
