Thanks for the comments everyone. I always feel guilty posting a photo update in the main forum when I haven't finished off my last photo thread, so I thought I would post a quick update to my blog instead. Hopefully I'll finish my Spring/Summer thread off either this week or next. I suppose it might be good to finish it before Christmas... :
Thanks for the pics and editorial. A couple of the guys on my softball team are CMs there and, knowing what a Disneyholic I am, asked me if I was going on Friday. I do my best to try to avoid crowded days so I'll try it maybe this next Wednesday since I'm off.
I too really dig the crow shot, great!
Thanks for these pictures! It will probably be a long, long time before I ever get to visit Disney during Halloween time myself, so seeing these is a treat!
Thanks so much for the update! Halloween Time is my absolute favorite, so it took everything in me not to call in sick and head to the park. But, from the photos I'm kind of glad I didn't, since it appears there was quite a crowd. I'll give it a bit and try to aim for the middle of the week.
And I must say the detailed shot of the band leaders costume was awesome! I LOVE IT! I can't get over the design. And yes it has sparked a curiosity as to whether they were decorated in past years. Hmmm?
Thank you again for the fantastic update.
P.S. Love the signature shot you have of the crows flying over Carnation Cafe area @ dusk-ish. I tried to get the same shot awhile back, but my digital sucks-ish. So thank you.
Mac Daddy, sorry I don't think I've commented on your posts in a while, but thank you for taking all of these on the first day of Halloween Time! This is my favorite seasonal promotion at Disneyland, so I enjoy looking at all the festive decorations. Thanks again!!!
P.S. Yes, the band does have special Christmas uniforms, but I like the Halloween versions more.
I forgot a shot from a couple weeks ago. The hotel refurb has begun in earnest. It's a bit odd to glance up at the DLH and see several windows missing...
Great Photos! Can't Wait to go tomorrow hoping it will be less people since the lower APs ar blocked.
Fantastic pictures! I'm so sad that for the second year in a row, I won't be able to come down and see the Halloween decorations for myself! But thanks for the wonderful pictures, esp. the new band costumes!
I was there today as well!! It was so hot and crowded that we left after a few hours. Everything looks good but we haven't gotten on Space Mountain yet. I did manage to snag a CM only Buddy Bear pin that is adorable though so it wasn't all a waste! I love your photos! Hopefully, we will get to go back next Tuesday or so when it is slower.
I think so too, OP. Thanks for posting! I also can't get over those band uniforms. I think those are new. I might ask that question to the mob in the forum. That spiderweb design and the orange....just too cool. I can't believe they shelled out that kind of money just for Halloweentime. I'm wondering if they have Christmas uniforms...I can't remember seeing any at the moment. In fact, I can't remember if the band even plays during the Christmas season. Hmmm...
That car parked out front is very cool!
Very cool! I love HDR. But not so much the surreal kind. The more natural realistic kind. I think you've found a nice balance between the two.
Here's a few more...
Sweet pirates treasure!!! These are some of the coolest photos of POTC that I've ever seen.
The combination of the D90...really, ISO 6400(!!!) and the wide angle lens makes for some INCREDIBLE photos. I never thought that the pirate ship would be captured so clearly. Terrific work Mac Daddy!!! I'm glad you have a nice Christmas present to play with.
Thanks OP. I've been trying different things with the D90. The first time I went on with it, I shot in aperture priority mode with my 50mm at 1.4 and found that the camera completely over blows the shots and slows the lens speed down to 1 or 2 seconds...which doesn't work too well when you're moving. I tried again after that with some manual settings and had much better luck. I'm hoping to find a sweet spot with the 1.4 lens and just hope for the right moment when the boat isn't bouncing back and forth on the track. I'll post a couple of these further down as quite a few came out with the 1.4 a few days ago. My primary goal here was to get a shot of the ship as you exit the cave, which doesn't work so well with the 50mm. I wasn't sure I could get ANYTHING with the wide lens as I think the lowest stop was F4, so I was pretty happy with what I got. Yes, the D90 also shoots video, but it won't autofocus when you are shooting. Kind of a major drawback, but I think Nikon thought of it as more of an extra than a fully functional video camera. I'll have to try some shots at the park with it soon. Thanks for your advice.
nice man. I spent countless days shooting pirates before they did the big refurb. I went on it over and over till my pictures were clear. thats how i got my avatar. its take hard work and dedication. Just keep practicing. try to move against the motion of your boat. its helps. and F stop is your friend. Your 50 1.4 will do the trick for sure. use 1.4-1.6. thats all you need. the DOF will be narrow but you wont notice since things are so far and the speed is much more important. also congrats on the D90. Doesnt it take video? Try it on pirates next time. see if anything comes out. I ordered my 5D Mark II months ago and it finally shipped today and arrives wednesday. I can't wait to try and record HD video on pirates with it. at 6400iso and F 1.4, it should blow my video camera away.
Great pictures! Thanks for that.
So sad to see my "mother land" once again up in flames!
Wow! Those photos of the smoke and stuff are amazing. It did look like Independence Day.
Sad day. I see now that Diamond Bar is involved.
