It's been a busy week at Disneyland - Imagineers came out last weekend to mingle with fans and sign the new Imagineering the Magic DVD, the amazing Julie Andrews signed books and the lead horse on King Arthur's Carousel was dedicated to her, and the brand new Mark VII Monorail Blue arrived on property.
There's lots to see, so lets get to it, shall we?
WELCOME 'HOME'
Julie Andrews visited Disneyland on Tuesday for a signing of her new memoir, "Home."

In honor of Julie's new book, her achievements, and her long-time relationship with the Walt Disney Company, Disneyland dedicated Jingles, the lead horse on Fantasyland's King Arthur Carrousel, to Ms. Andrews.

MONORAIL BLUE ARRIVES
The new Mark VII Monorail Blue arrived on property this week as well. Many thanks to the anonymous source who sent these our way.

At the time these were taken, the train was still obviously under wraps in a CM parking lot.

PROGRESS REPORT
And finally, a look at various projects around the parks.
The current main entrance door to Innoventions has finally been repainted after months of damage.

Inside, work continues on the Innoventions House of the Future, scheduled to open in May.

Don't expect these VMK arcade machines to be around too much longer -- Disney recently announced that VMK will close forever on May 21.

The Tomorrowland Terrace is getting some TLC.

In DCA, some work is going on at Grizzly River Run's water wheel.

The White Water Snacks emergency exit bridge is finally finished.

The "bear left" billboard marking the entrance to the Grizzly Peak Recreation Area in DCA is getting some work. One could only hope it gets a non-punny makeover.

And a couple shots of Pier progress.

WELCOME TO DISNEYLAND!
The new star for Anaheim Angels owner Gene Autry was dedicated this week. The new star is the latest in the growing Anaheim walk of stars that lines the walkway in front of the Disneyland Resort on Harbor Blvd.

David "Darkbeer" Michael also has loads of photos from the star's dedication ceremony. You can see them all in his Smugmug galleries.

IMAGINEERING THE MAGIC
The 2-Disc Imagineering the Magic DVD set was released last weekend at Disneyland. Four Walt Disney Imagineers were on hand at the release to sign DVDs for eager fans.

Photo: Coheteboy
Lines were long for the release and signing.

The Imagineers arrive...

The DVD was sold in the Disneyana shop on Main Street, with the signing held in the Main Street Cinemas.

Imagineer Tony Baxter was the first Imagineer guests met. He was clearly pleased to be part of the DVD project, and divulged in me that Imagineering will make an appearance on the upcoming Sleeping Beauty 50th Anniversary Platinum Edition DVD set. The beloved Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through will be re-created for a DVD featurette. When I asked him "What about the real deal?" he replied with a big grin, "We're working on it!"

The event was handled quite nicely, and seemed to go off quite smoothly. Unfortunately, at $25, the DVD is largely underwhelming. The "behind-the-scenes" language on the box is a bit misleading, as there is very little that is new in this set. There is a lot of footage we've already seen, and a lot of stories we've already heard. Although, I must say that it's always a pleasure to see or hear Tony Baxter talk about Disneyland -- you can truly tell Mr. Baxter loves Disneyland and his job. Mark Rhodes, a producer of the DVD sent an open letter to MiceChat after some members gave some harsh reviews of the DVD and explained that the DVD is for the casual Disneylander, not for the hardcore fans. So, if you're interested in this DVD, be sure to keep that in mind.
For further reading, info, member reviews, and the full letter from Mark Rhodes, check out the Imagineering the Magic thread on MiceChat: Imagineering the Magic DVD release and signing

I have to agree with rihard2000 about the placement of the bench in relation to the emergency exit.Posted 04-12-2008 at 04:33 PM by Son Gohan
