6/06: Resort Round-Up: Churros in Paradise, Awaking Beauty, Grand Californian +MORE
Posted 06-06-2008 at 02:35 AM by Dateline Disneyland
Welcome to the June 6th edition of Dateline Disneyland. This week we're taking a look at the latest highly-themed outdoor vending establishment on Paradise Pier, a possible awakening of the Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through, Nemo's fixed waterfalls, the Anaheim Garden Walk and more! So let's get to it!
WELCOME TO DISNEYLAND!
The Disneyland Guided Tour Ticket Booth and Garden is behind walls for refurbishment.

The online fan community has been buzzing the past couple days with reports that Imagineers and construction contractors have been seen entering the Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through that has been shuttered since October 2001. Construction walls have indeed gone up around the former exit to the walk-through attraction.

When asked about the Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through at the April 5 release of the Imagineering the Magic DVD at Disneyland, Imagineer Tony Baxter replied that Imagineers were "working on it" and that a computer animated recreation of the Castle walk-through with Imagineer commentary would be present on the Sleeping Beauty 50th Anniversary DVD which will be released this October. Hopefully these construction walls mean that the walk-through is, indeed, returning after all.

Over in Tomorrowland, the repair work on the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage exit waterfall has been completed.

CHURROS IN PARADISE
Normally a churro cart wouldn't be particularly newsworthy. Yet, as with everything Toy Story Midway Mania-related on Paradise Pier, the new churro cart further represents the new era at Disney's California Adventure in terms of showmanship and quality theming.

The churro vendor sells bottled beverages from a cooler highly themed as a 1920s newsstand.

Tying in with the park's new Disney-rich theming, a newspaper announces the debut of Steamboat Willie

On the other side of the Churro cart, a sink is cleverly disguised as a Paradise Pier custodial cart.

At the nearby Pacific Wharf, its "Record Catch" photo-op is getting some work done.

GRAND CALIFORNIAN PROGRESS
Work at the Grand Californian Hotel Disney Vacation Club expansion continues to chug along...

ANAHEIM GARDEN WALK
The Anaheim Garden Walk is now open, but many stores are still moving in. The overall project looks nice, though, even if a little boring.

The shopping center will be a lot nicer once the plant life grows in and the complex can live up to its "Garden Walk" name.

Still, the big walls of bright neon colors seem off in this shopping center that is supposed to be "garden"-themed.

I really appreciate the extra effort to theme things to the golden age of boardwalk games, and the beverage cart looks great, but couldn't they have had somebody whip up a few fake articles for the Boardwalk Daily Breeze that weren't simply composed of gibberish? Unless of course I'm missing the secret meaning in this Headliner:
"Tlah srood eblortns idisgo yrailb htuakk skirtibc rac. Sritaveke ekkaurb yba cku retendaud csab dit retbcc ec ecnfad. Dais La Mar kcuhe derap."
Alright, code-crackers. Put on those special decoder rings and let's find out what kind of propoganda this newspaper is really spewing!
