Inventory was bad for us this year. Part of the reason is shoplifters.

Honestly, if it was legal, I'd love to just slam shoplifters to the ground. I mean, these are pathetic theives who would probably steal from their own grandmother.

See, when people shoplift, the employees are the first to get blamed.

So with our bad inventory, we definatly stepped it up a few notches. We increased our awareness level.

This week alone, we caught two shoplifters and had them arrested and charged.

But yesterday someone must have outwit us because we found the paper stuffing from inside purses we sale over by the baby supplies. So someone must have lifted the purses.

Yesterday we also had two teens acting and looking suspicious. They only like to lift medicine so they can make drugs though. So when I saw them walking around the store, heading for the medicine, I kept a tight eye on them. Thankfully we were smarter than them by removing the medicine they love to steal from the shelves. So they walked out empty handed.

Monday night we caught a young mother, 19, with her two year old son and older sister in the store. The mother was caught lifting detergent, the expensive kind in our store, and valentines cards. We called the cops in and had her stay the night in jail.

The very next morning, we caught another lifter trying to lift Crackers and curtains.

So then she went over to the clothes. So myself and an associate began to work in the clothes area too and really put the pressure on her. When we told her to empty her big purse bag, we found the shoplifted merchandise and called the cops on her. She started to cry and beg us not to press charges, but none of us wanted to lose our jobs and went by what the manager demanded.

The cops came and arrested her. Now we know both women we caught were not planning on buying things because their purses were cleaned out so they could have enough room to put the stolen merchandise in. They took their wallets, ID, etc. out before even coming into the store.

But man, it felt so good catching them and sending them to jail!!! Hopefully this is starting to prove to the upper management that we are not the one's stealing from the store, it's the customers!!!

Anyone who works retail I'm sure can relate to this issue and how good it feels to bust thieves.

By the way, according to one office, it's considered shoplifting, the very second a person hides the merchandise.

Okay, I know Christmas can be s tressful time, especially if you are working in the retail industry.

I honestly think it's a bit more stressful for people working in retail than it is for the customers who are shopping. I mean, It's beyond ridiculous, how many grumpy attitudes on a casual we have had to deal with these days!

People just come into the store with bad moods and then some.

I also noticed and increase in people cussing out my co-workers and managers simply for following store policy during the last two weeks. Not to mention how rude some customers have been towards us when we are simply trying to be polite to them.

For example. Last week my manager got cussed out because a guy was trying to return a damaged product with no receipt. The manager did not want to break store rules and di not give him a refund and got cussed out for it.

Funny thing is though that the manager just shrugged it off in the end and continued on with the day.

About two weeks ago, my AM and my co-worker were working alone and it was so busy, our store had record profits that day.

So they we stranded at the registers all day, from opening to close and could not do anything else. So with only a few minutes left before closing, a regular customer of ours, who can be rude at times and not know it, came in.

Now each time someone comes in before closing, we politly remind them how much time is left before the registers get taken down. This woman gave my AM so much rude attitude that it got to the point that when she was waiting in line to be checked out, all the customers got sick and tired of her running her lip, they all let her cut in front of them.

WOMAN!! They worked the whole freakin' day!!! They want to get the heck out of there and rest! Give them a break!!!

Okay, so a few days ago, a woman walked in and my AM turned around to greet her.

The woman then cussed my AM out and left.

We had no clue what that was about.

Next morning my AM was informed that this woman not only called our District Manager, but the regional VP and complained on my AM, saying that she was following her around like she was a shoplifter!!

What a, well, I won't say it.

Basically my AM got cussed out and complained on simply for turning around to say hi.

A few days ago, we were bombarded with refunds. The woman had her receipt. So I politly asked if she was going to do more shopping and do an exchange or do a refund. She said I don't know. It was her turn to check out and so I asked her again.

This time she go rude with me and said "I SAID I DON'T KNOW!"

So I just refunded her money back and of course she went shopping regardless. She could have just gone shopping and I would have refunded her back the difference, but she wanted to make things hard on me.

Then on Monday, our truck day, some guy complained about all the boxes and uboats on the floor. I joked with my AM and said, "what, he couldn't decide to just walk around the boxes? I swear, some people would actually belive the red sea would part just for them!".

Anyway, there's my rant. I'm sure more ranting will be done as Christmas gets closer.

Bad news is that I won't be getting my degree this spring because I guess I need 6 more credited hours (Classes) than I first thought. This is Kentucky, state of omission. So even though I was optimistic about the possibility of getting my degree, I did not want to get too ahead of myself knowing that it's commonplace for facts to be omitted until the very end.

Good news is that I got an A in math.

Good thing I did not make a big ordeal to a lot of people about getting my degree though.

I am going to start up a blog in which I can post some of the most interesting things that happened during my dad and will keep it updated as much as possible.

Lets start with yesterday.

Monday's are truck days at my work. So that means my schedule changes a lot on Monday's. Some times I come in early, sometimes I come in later.

I had to be at work by 12am. But I wanted to stop by the post office before hand. I live 20 minutes away from town so that means, I have to leave before work 20-40 minutes in advance, depends on what I have to do before hand.

So since I wanted to go to the post office, and had to be at work by 12, my original plan was to leave by 10:45. I wound up leaving at 11 though because I got caught up on MiceChat. That was a very good decision I made yesterday!! Who would have known MiceChat causing me to procrastinate would have been such a good thing???

Anyway, right when I turned off my country road onto a two lane county road, I saw a big dust cloud.

Then I saw people flagging me down and telling me to stop. So I put my emergency blinkers on and stopped. I then got out of the car to see what was going on and asked if they needed any help with anything. I then noticed that a car had rolled into a ditch on my side of the road and debris was all over the place!!

I mean, this kid must have been going pretty fast down the county road considering the fact that he wound up in serious condition and had to be air lifted to the hospital.

Had I decided to leave 10-15 minutes earlier, like planned, I may have also been involved in an accident with this kid.

I just hope he's alright.

I have worked at a certain store for over a year now and theft is common. If you misplace your purse, money bag, or wallet, in this store, more...

I have worked at a certain store for over a year now and theft is common. If you misplace your purse, money bag, or wallet, in this store, more often than not, selfish, ignorant people will steal it. They could care less about you. They will go out of their way to steal your lost property.

There have been some cases in which the money and stuff have been returned to their rightful owners. Last Friday was no different. I mean, one customer honestly made me proud and happy to know that there are still good people out there.

You see, my manager and I were running our registers at the same time, because veryone had their monthly government checks they wanted to spend, and we got a call from a woman who thought she left her purse in the store.

So as I finished with my customer, the manager asked if I saw any purses, I said, "No." My manager then told her we did not have her purse and hung up.

So a few minutes later, the customer I had finished checking out, came back into the store and said she had found the woman's purse in the parking lot!!!

The customer knew that a woman had lost her purse because she was there when my manager asked if I saw the purse anywhere.

So she was nice enough to bring it back in before anyone could steal it. I guarantee you, had she not done such a great deed, the purse would have been stolen by the end of the day. What's worse is that the lady had her personal information stuff in the purse so her I.D. could have also easily been stolen!!

So, with the customer who found the purse still in the store, we opened her purse, got her ID out, looked her name up in the phone book, and called her right back to tell her the good news!!! I said over the phone, "Did someone just call here in regards to a missing purse?" The woman's husband I presume, stated, "Yes." I said, "Well a customer found it in the parking lot and brought it in. So now the purse is in our possession and she can pick it up." The man said she was already on her way.

After I hung up, I know this sounds silly, I almost had a tear in my eye because I was so happy to know that there are still good people out there doing good deeds for others.

After the customer turned in the purse, she left. About 15 minutes later, the woman who lost her purse had come in and was so appreciative and was very thankful for the customer being kind enough to turn the purse in. I of course aksed her to check everything and nothing seemed to be missing.

But, you know, this is also a case of one good customer being in the right place, at the right time. The customer who found the purse wound up being married to someone in the sheriff's department. So if we were not able to find the purse's owner, she was going to be kind enough to turn it into the sheriff's dept.

Do any of you have any good stories about good deeds being performed?

Got my tuition bill today. It's Close to $900 just for one class!!!

What ticks me off even more is that I got it today and they expect me to send it back by 8/19/08! But get this, they suggest I send it ten days before the due date so that the chack can be processed. So basically they suggest I send it out by 8/9/08. I hate how they send this bill last minute!!!

I don't have enough to afford it. Looks like Mom and dad will have to help out because the government decided to screw me out of my $300 rebate I was expecting which was going to be used entirely on tuition.

Mom and Dad decided to help me this time because I was declaired by them as a dependent and that's some of the reason why I did not get my $300 rebate.

But get this also, the book itself, in new form cost about $125, I know their's got to be price gouging somewhere because it is definatly not worth that much. But I bought it used for the cheapest price I could find, $89.25.

This is just getting crazy!!! Almost $900, not including textbooks, for one class???

To make things worse, this is for a math class. I have been really trying as of late to enter this class with an advantage by reading "Geometry For Dummies" and by practicing in the Math book I just bought. I really hope I can pass this class because the school's tutoring has proven to be no benefit to me in the past.

Blog Entry #2.

I don't know about anyone else here, but I work in the retail industry. It is amazing what we have to put up with.

When you have a job that consists of interacting with the public on a daily basis, you are bound to have some stories to come home with! I know I do! I have seen it all!

Sometimes, there are situations that just make you think, "What was this person thinking?"

For example, one time, a customer walked into the Employee's Restroom, and went to the bathroom on the floor! What the heck??? We definatly did not sign on to clean poo up off the floor.

Then another time, a customer came up to me and asked if the cut on his finger looked infected. I mean, this was a deep cut from one side of the finger to the other and it was black and blue. I told him to go over to the urgent clinic, but I guess he didn't.

Sometimes people can really test your patience too. They act like they can just waste our time. There are many times where I am trying to get something done by a certain hour and working the register at the same time. Yes, multi-tasking is common in the retail industry. So, I would drop what I'm doing, come up to the register and proceed to check a person out. Then after I tell them the total, they decide that they are not done shopping and vanish back into the store!!!

So I typically give them a minute or two of my time until I decide if I should cancel their order or not and go back to what I was doing. That kinda stuff really gets irritating after awhile because not only are they holding me up, but they are holding the other customers up as well and that is rude.

One day I had a customer who kinda irked me. I was checking out a customer and this woman over by the clothes yelled at me, saying that a rack almost fell over on her and hurt her. Of course that wasn't true because even though the rack was a little wobbly, the legs would have prevented it from falling over and hurting anyone. So I pushed it to the side and went back to the register. THEN the woman wanted me to get her a lawn chair. I though she was going to buy one so I got one from the back and showed her the price. She said she didn't want to buy one, just needed one to sit on before she fell over. So I put that chair back and brought out a folding chair for her. Then she told me to get her a Diet Coke and I rang it up for her.

What did I get in exchange? Nothing! Just a lousy attitude. Then about an hour later, a customer was starting to give me problems about something ringing up for the wrong price. Of course, the register has always been right. So I went back and checked the tag all while muttering to myself "Why the heck am I being treated like this?" So I was nice enough to reduce the price for this one customer even though I did not have to. Then, when I tried to reduce the price, the register started giving me problems! This all happened within the first two hours I started to work that day!

But I dealt with two customers in less than an hour that put me in a bad mood and I got no thanks from them for going out of my way to make them happy.

By this time people could clearly see I was frustrated and I even told my manager, who was right behind me, that I was not happy with the people I had to deal with that day.

It's also very common for several customers to try and get the attention of one clerk at the same time. One time, I managed to help four customers at once, not kidding.

I helped ring up a customer on the register while answering the questions of another customer who was on the phone, while telling another customer where a certain product was, and while running outside to give another customer a bag of stuff they had forgotten.

Things can get pretty crazy. But regardless, I do enjoy 98% of my customers and have gotten many compliments from them about my constant smiling and good attitude. Hearing stuff like that from them really does cheer me up, especially if I had been having a bad day. It's also nice to know that many of my customers are patient and understanding.

They are patient with me when I have to deal with other customers who just won't listen to the truth and are patient with me when the registers are acting up.

I LOVE all of our regular customers too. They are the nicest people I have met.

But I have learned something. You can only deal with one customer at a time.

If everyone decided they want to check out at the same time, which happens a lot, and complain to me about the long line they just made, tough. They need to wait, period like all the other customers do. I give every customer the respect of my sole, individual, attention to them when I am helping them out.

I believe everyone should work in the retail industry, or with the public somehow just to see what it's really like.

Now that my rant is over, what are your thoughts? Who here has had the same frustrations when it comes to working with the public?

I know this is not a new feature on MiceChat, but with all the new stuff being added to the site, I decided it may be interesting to take a step in a new direction.

I am going to start blogging here as well :).

This is my first blog on MiceSpace so I am going to do it on a movie I really enjoy, Sweeney Todd.

I have not seen any of the Broadway shows and did not know anything about the story before watching the film. I just knew it was a musical about a Demon Barber and it had elements of folklore. I am a person who is VERY fascinated with folklore, so this was right up my alley.

To give a quick summary, It is about a man named Benjamin Barker. Barker was a young barber who lived with his family, and ran his barber shop, on the second story, above Mrs. Lovett's meat pie bakery. He was then thrown into prison by Judge Turpin for no good reason. This was all part of Turpin's plan to get to his wife, Lucy Barker. But as the years past, Turpin began to fall more inlove with Benjamin and Lucy's daughter, Johanna. Turpin then began to hold Johanna captive in his house. Soon, Benjamin Barker broke out of prison and was saved at sea by Anthony Hope. When Hope found him stranded in the ocean, the man was no longer Benjamin Barker, he had transformed himself into Sweeney Todd. Todd then moved back into the second story of Mrs. Lovett's meat pie bakery and re-established his duty as Barber.

But this time he was out for revenge against the upper class, and all those who trample the lower class workers. In specific, he was after Judge Turpin.

The story demonstrates that revenge and hatred can blind humans and may cause us to make irrational decisions.

To find out the rest of the story, you should watch the movie and/or learn more about the broadway musical.

The story was confusing at first, but after watching it a few times, I understood everything that was going on. I really enjoyed the cast.

Some say Johnny Depp is a horrible singer, others say he is a great one. I guess that's also another beauty about the movie, the diverse opinions everyone shares in regards to the talent.

Personally, I think Johnny did a great job as Todd. For someone who lacks in singing experience, he sure did a better job than I would have when it came to his performances.

I also became a fan of Timothy Spall. I LOVED Tim's performance as the corrupt, perverted, arrogant church Beadle, Beadle Bamford. He played the part so well. I am not much into Harry Potter, but from what I heard, he stars in some of those films as well.

It seems that many people in the Sweeney Todd film have played roles in the Harry Potter films as well. What's up with that .

But I guess that's a good thing because it means that it made it only easier for them to adapt to the acting styles of their fellow cast members.

But I will admit, I also became a fan of the newcomers: Jamie Campbell Bower (Anthony Hope), Jayne Wisener (Johanna Barker), Laura Michelle Kelly (Lucy Barker), and especially Edward Sanders (Tobias Ragg).

They all have tremendous singing voices. But let me tell you something. For a 15 year old boy, Ed Sanders has a WONDERFUL singing voice! If you have not seen the film, I seriously encourage you to atleast hear his performance of the beautiful song, Not While I'm Around. Best performance in the whole movie, no questions asked in my opinion. The song plays into a sub-story of the film, which has little to do with blood, and a lot to do with caring for one another.

Toby began to love Mrs. Lovett and saw her as the mother he never had. So when he sang Not While I'm around to her, it was very touching and a very heart felt. I mean, I know this may sound corny, but I love songs that encourage us to love and protect one another, especially since we live in a world savaged by wars and fighting.

I do believe Ed stole the show with his performance as Toby, the little orphan boy who worked a hard life in the factories and was taken and abused by a con man named Signor Pirelli (Sacha Baron Cohen). Edward brought a sense of intelligence, innocence and compassion to the character. He gave the character moral values and the ability to love those around him.

I don't think this is the last time we will be seeing, or hearing, from Ed, Jaime, Laura, and Jayne.

They are all incredible young actors who will go far in my opinion.

I do recommend this film, and this recommendation is coming from someone who is not a fan of gore or musicals. But Sweeney is different. The music is beautiful, the actors did a great job, and I just love rewatching it and listening to the movie soundtrack.

What are your thoughts on the film?
