Political ads on MiceChat
This is really pissing me off! I understand that everyone has a right to their opinion, and that stating said opinion is a constitutional right. Here's the pain in my side... the Yes on 8 ads! I'm not allowed to state my political opinion in my sig line... so why must I b3ee subjected to the uneducated rhetoric of the these political IDIOTS?!
If I can't post political views, I shouldn't have to be subjected to them in ads.
Also, Yes on 8 goes against what MANY people on this site stand for. So shouldn't the offending ad be removed? Total and utter bull****.

MiceChat did NOT pick those Ads. Our Google Ad system picked the ads for us. We would NEVER allow such hurtful and hateful ads to appear if we had control. We have reported the Ads to Google and they did disappear after a few hours. However, they seem to be back again. We are FURIOUS with Google and with the mean and nasty human beings at the Yes on 8 campaign who placed these ads on our site.

This has been reported to the correct forum area so that the administrators can try to fix it.
http://micechat.com/forums/forums/10...up-forums.html
But just to be clear you CAN post your political views it just needs to be done in the debate section not in sigs or avatars.Posted 11-03-2008 at 09:54 AM by pratt55

Dear MiceAge:
As a fan of the past MiceAge I was VERY surprised and disappointed to see ads running for the Yes on 8 campaign on the website.
As you know Disney have a large gay and lesbian fan base and a large number of web page viewer are gay and lesbian and to see any ad pro or con for any campaign issue is so VERY wrong on your part!
I was disgusted by this and want you to know that I'm sure that I am not the only one of the members of this site that is angry!
Sincerely,
S. MillsPosted 11-03-2008 at 11:09 AM by scotnca

Message from Dusty in the thread that Pratt linked:
Quote:Folks,
We have reported the offensive ads to Google. However, it will take up to 2 hours for them to be removed.
We are just sick that anyone would use MiceChat to promote such a hateful agenda.
We are on it and doing whatever we can stop these horrible ads!

THANK YOU for taking immediate action on this. As a longtime MiceChat and MiceAge reader, I know that the website has a large LGBT subscriber base and it has supported LGBT events such as Gay Days, so it seemed a bit odd for these 'yes on prop8' ads to be running throughout the site.
I too was a bit disgruntled to see the ads but after reading this thread, I'm comforted! I still consider Micechat/Miceage to be a Safezone
Be sure to vote tomorrow!!

Believe me, the MiceChat team is just as disheartened and upset over all of these ads has everyone else. The admins are doing what they can to block the URL's of these ads as quickly as possible. We don't control the ads that show up on the site, they are automatically generated by Google algorithms are are usually randomly generated. Hang in there folks we're working on it!Posted 11-03-2008 at 12:41 PM by penguinsoda

I'm a reader and hardly a poster, but this is the first thing I saw when I came to the site and was sickened. Please correct this soon. I know I'm not the only one.Posted 11-03-2008 at 01:08 PM by Imaginerd

I'm so glad that everyone had such a quick response to this! The ads are gone and have been replaced by Disney Vacation planning stuff! HOORAY!
Thanks to Dustysage for attacking this head on!
THREE BIG CHEERS FOR DUSTY AND THE REST OF THE MICECHAT ADMINS!
EDIT: there are still a few ads up on the blog page, but this should be taken care of soon. Still stoked that Dusty really took care of this quickly.Posted 11-03-2008 at 01:43 PM by haunted_hottie

For a Disney site, the ads do bother me a bit. The ads should be Disney related, not political.
But regardless, the ads themselves don't bother me, just for this website they do.
(Sorry, I am a supporter of traditional marriage. I'm all for civil unions, however, and totally think that homosexual couples should get the same rights heterosexual couples do -- I just can't come to terms of calling it a marriage. Hope I didn't offend.)Posted 11-03-2008 at 03:59 PM by Maleficent Fan

It is very unfortunate that we live in as world where religion, politics, and sex cannot be discussed in a calm and kind manner- be it in the sky, on the television, or on the discussion boards. I have many friends from all walks of life with various preferences for how to live it, yet it seems we all get along well- even if we disagree, we still choose to love each other.Posted 11-03-2008 at 04:00 PM by mark
