Celebrate - A Street Party - 3/27/09
More photos coming!
OK folks, the newest "event" at Disneyland premiered yesterday. And it is NOT a parade, but for many folks, they will love the "Street Party".
"Celebrate - A Street Party" had its big premiere Friday at 3:30, and will be offered for the next few weeks twice a day at 3:30 and 6:30 PM (On off-seasons weekdays, it will be offered once at 7 PM).
The park was surprisingly busy with Disneyland even closing the Turnstiles around 3 PM for a few minutes due to the large crowds watching the event. Disney was parking at Buzz Lightyear around 2 PM, and they had the Timon Lot Entrance on Harbor Blvd. blocked off.
If you get the local newspaper this morning (Orange County Register), you will see the story on the Front Page...

But here at MiceAge, we get to do things a bit differently.... and that is Multiple locations and HUNDREDS of photos...

So let's look at a few highlights....

Yes, TDA was told you WILL attend the parade Friday Afternoon (and that is a GOOD thing), here is Ed Grier joining the rest of the group leaving the Banana Building to check out the new "Street Party".

OK, for the Entertainment Geeks, the "First" photo of the new Non-Parade.

For those who love "Floats", this is NOT the parade (Or Street Event) for you.... This is about as good as you will get!

Heck, at least these "Floats" will have its sign change during the performance.

The main part of this performance are the "show stops", three times, for the first parade of the day, the "small world" Area (Light Magic Platform), the Hub area (Central Plaza) and the central area of Main Street.

Where NOT to watch the Parade, the "Matterhorn Corridor", Basically between the Storybook Canal area to the Castle is not used at all.
Also the Parade does not use the Town Square section, as the "event" now makes a turn at the Magic Shop and goes straight to the Parade Gate, and does not make the full turn by City Hall.

While I am not the biggest fan of the new event, I also know that the CM's that work the "event" work their butts off and we should all thank them for their hard work!

Jeopardy! for $1000, name BOTH Characters.... (And send you answers to Merv Griffin, NOT me
Hey, they placed you in front of the Media "Mosh Pit"

OK, it isn't a "traditional" parade, but it IS High Energy!

Yes, we can say "Eye Candy".... And once again, thanks to ALL the CM's who work hard to prevent the Street Party!

To Spend ALL your money at the Resort, unless you want Sushi! (Can I once again say I am not happy about the Yamabuki closing!)

Some-days, it is just too easy to be a photographer....

Yes, you need to check out the new "event", but don't expect a Parade of Dreams!
See you next week!

Did you mean to say "work hard to PREVENT the street party" or PRESENT the street party?Posted 03-28-2009 at 11:24 AM by OregonBoy1963

No one is buying the "It's not a parade" argument for this being such a crappy production. Disneyland guests EXPECT a parade and to them, this IS the parade. They will judge it to be cheap and that Disney is losing its ability to wow us.
They should be running Parade of Dreams AND this street party. Then it would all make sense as a nice little addition to the daily entertainment.
BRING BACK PARADE OF DREAMS UNTIL YOU HAVE A REAL NEW PARADE DISNEY ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !Posted 03-28-2009 at 12:03 PM by Dustysage

This will be a one time see for me and then from now on I will go on rides while everyone is standing around to see this. What is up with these "events"? Reminds me so much of BPB. I will say that I do very much appreciate all the hard work that these performers put into this.
I agree - bring back POD. Though from what I read somewhere (can't remember where) those floats are history.Posted 03-28-2009 at 12:12 PM by Wendygirl

Oh come on you guys! This does not look that bad at all! It looks cute and festive! Yea its small but come on, you cant expect another POD especially with this economy so this will do for me, I can't wait to go this wednesday to check it out! And as a side note, the outfits look WAY better than what WDW cooked up, but thats just me, all about the clothes...Posted 03-28-2009 at 12:44 PM by FutureImagineer183

In the last photo, it looks like the Mickey balloons glow when they perform the parade after dark. Is this true? That might make for a more interesting parade if the lighting has little surprises like that.
Also...(A) I like the stilt walker costumes. (B) Even if it's not Parade of Dreams, it still looks better than the Magic Kingdom parade.Posted 03-28-2009 at 01:00 PM by pirate_tim

I saw both performances of the show and was so impressed. For those who are non-dancers, POD was better suited for them. It was great to see actual dancing return to Main Street. It has been too long. Our parades were starting to look like WDW productions. Can't wait to head back with family and friends.Posted 03-28-2009 at 01:39 PM by Hetchel

Wow, Ed Grier and his roving pack of TDA friends look like they are heading to a funeral. Or a new parade.
How the heck do these TDA leaders expect front line hourly Cast Members to smile and provide great customer service at The Happiest Place On Earth when they don't even make an attempt to smile or look welcoming or happy themselves?!
I don't except Ed Grier and his TDA drones to come into the park for their bi-monthly visit doing cartwheels and making balloon animals for the kiddies, but they could at least try and smile a bit and look welcoming.
Ed Grier should try being Mr. Rork on Fantasy Island just before the plane unloads the guests...
