GO DUCKS! (Both the Poultry and Hockey versions) - and NO place to Park!

OK, there is a LOT to get to this week, but I can't resist this...
BREAKING NEWS!
From the FRONT page (Below the fold) of the Orange County Register on Thursday, April 22nd...
Octo-duck lands with brood at Knott’s - Around Disney - OCRegister.com
A proud mother duck of eight was reunited with her kin after a scary experience in a storm drain on a busy Buena Park intersection outside Knott’s Berry Farm.
And MAJOR Kudos to Joshua Sudock of the OCR for the great photos of the ducks!
Ripley's Believe It or Not! in Buena Park closes AGAIN!
Ripley's in Buena Park did close once as part of the Movieland Wax Museum closing, but reopened shortly thereafter (a couple of weeks). It is now closed for good, well... Maybe????
Believe it: Ripley's museum in O.C. closes its doors | park, location, ripley, buena, purchased - News - OCRegister.com
In case you missed the photos, I have some great shots of both the Movieland Wax Museum and Ripley's from 2005...

And as mentioned in the OCR article, if you have a ticket to Ripley's in Buena Park, they will honor it at the Hollywood location (Hollywood Blvd. and Highland).
LAWYERS, why does it have to be LAWYERS!!
OK, a bad Indiana Jones pun, but still makes a point.... Here is the letter Disney sent to folks that got the Monthly AP payment plan that didn't live in the "right" zip codes.

Non-Southern Californians not eligible for Disney Pass payment plan - Around Disney - OCRegister.com
Thank you for your purchase of a Disneyland® Resort Annual Passport.
Unfortunately, per the terms of the Retail Installment Contract for the Annual Passport Monthly Payment Plan, the Monthly Payment option is only available to residents of Southern California within zip codes 90000 to 93599. You were inadvertently sold a pass under a program in which you are, regrettably, ineligible to participate. We sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause as it is never our intention to inconvenience our Guests in any manner.
We will stop billing and collecting all future scheduled payments on May 1, 2009 and your contract will be terminated at that time. For your enjoyment, however, the Annual Passport purchased by you under the Monthly Payment plan will continue to be valid for admission until the printed expiration date. When your current Annual Passport does expire, we would invite you to renew your Annual Passport, using a standard one-time payment. Again, we apologize for any disappointment this may cause.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact Guest Communications at 714-781-XXXX. We do hope that your next visit to the Disneyland® Resort will be pleasant in every respect.
(Phone Number edited)
First off, thanks to Adam Townsend of the OC Register for getting the copy of the letter.
This is a VERY interesting story, as a "handful", as per the Disney spokesperson, but IMHO might be more than 10 guests
are getting an AP at a serious discount. Most folks ended up placing a $69 deposit, and then made a few monthly payments before the "LAWYERS" said the contract was not valid and that they need to stop enforcing the 'Retail Installment Agreement"
So we now know that ONLY SoCal's will be allowed to use the Monthly Payment Plan, and that Disney decided they screwed up in offering the plan to zip codes not mentioned in the contract.
A few folks got lucky, as they don't have to make the remaining payments if they had an address in the "wrong" zip codes.
But is it fair to those living in the "right" Zip Codes? IMHO, NO. Disney made a BIG mistake allowing folks to sign a contract that clearly stated you had to live in a specific area. Disney screwed up allowing the "wrong" folks to sign the contract. BUT the contract is still valid for those in the right Zip Codes.
Would I like an AP at half price or less... Heck YES!. Alas, Disney is making it "right" for those who got offered a "Retail Installment Agreement" when they were not truly eligible for it.
And while I can be "upset", I also don't think Disney should give a discount to those that truly live in SoCal.
PARKING.... Where to park?
Alas, due to the change in the mix of guests, and more locals showing up as more folks want to do a "quick" trip instead of a long flight, Parking is getting to be a MAJOR problem at the Disneyland Resort. Between Disney/et al and its construction (The Timon Lot is about to be closed to Guests, and so is the Main Parking Structure at the Anaheim Convention Center off of Katella) there will be a LOT less parking spaces. Disney is addressing it, as they have an agreement with the Anaheim GardenWalk for parking, and looking to expand parking in the resort area. (A New Parking Structure in the Pummba area and a "flat" parking lot where the Strawberry Field was next to the Buzz Lightyear Lot). Also, the Convention Center is planning to build a new Parking Structure on West Blvd. (Same street as Disneyland Drive, just a name change south of Katella).
With the loss of most (if not all) of the Timon Lot due to the Cars Land Construction this summer, Disney is dealing with some serious issues. They are currently using the Anaheim GardenWalk for parking. And why do you get a shuttle (run by Gray Line/Coach USA) from the AGW, but have to walk to the park the from Pummba parking lot, even though they are the same distance to the Main Entrance Plaza?
A SAD Note!
Alas, he had a long life, but still sad to say that Ken Annakan passed away on Wednesday.
Ken Annakin dies at 94; British director of 'Swiss Family Robinson' and others - Los Angeles Times
We send our best wishes, thoughts and prayers to his family. He was a major part of the "early" Disney History, and will be truly missed.
Time for Special Events.
OK, want to try and beat "me"? I will be competing in the Gumball Rally "practice" event this Sunday. Check out the link at MiceChat. It is FREE (Well, you do have to pay for admission to get into Disneyland). We would LOVE to have you be part of the event...

Also I should mention that both SeaWorld San Diego and Knott's will be hosting Hispanic themed events the next few weeks, as Cinco de Mayo is coming up.
KBF Fiesta Mexicana '09
Best bet: SeaWorld gearing up for celebration of Latino cultures
And Disney will host the "Food and Wine" events...

Photos, you want photos..... (IMHO, Photos are better than LAWYERS!) Yes, it is a BAD Indy Joke!

Well, I am off to Universal Studios in a few hours to get the latest on the Back Lot construction.
Thanks again for viewing the current news! Go Ducks, Lakers, Angels, Padres, and the Galaxy..... OK, enough sports for the day.
No matter what your favorite sports team is, we truly do appreciate you checking MiceAge out!
And yes, I have HUNDREDS, if not Thousands (Heck, it is is in 6 digits if you look at the stats) of the photos at Smugmug.
I try and not show too many photos here at MiceAge, but there is ALWAYS my Smugmug photo gallery.

I couldn't figure out what the picture between the robotic surgery sign and Astro Orbiter was before seeing the surrounding area on the smugmug site (Darkbeer : photos : Disneyland Resort - 4/22/09- powered by SmugMug)Posted 04-24-2009 at 07:06 AM by RLS Legacy

Lakers... Hopefully tomorrow night will be different. Ducks are getting ready for the Wings. Angels, just win a couple in a row, please. Galaxy, it's been a long time since we've won in CO, but I've got a good feeling about tomorrow (hopefully Buddle is back).
Quite annoying about that whole AP scenario. I'd also like to get a large discount for mine. Thanks for the update.Posted 04-24-2009 at 08:35 AM by dlandjimmy

I am glad Disney honored the passes that were sold wrongly and I also do not think that the other passes should get discounts.Posted 04-24-2009 at 11:30 AM by Baloo

Because of the computer Disney knows who lied to get there AP's. Why not put up Wanted posters in Frontierland with their AP photo's? Disney does have the right to use images of anyone inside the park and those photo's were taken inside the park........Posted 04-24-2009 at 11:54 AM by whoRU

As far as the Monthly Payment Situation is concerned... they were always supposed to be SoCal only. When me, my sister, and her boyfriend bought ours in late January, we had recently permanently relocated to Orange Co. We made sure to bring proof of location: I brought my Chapman U ID, my sister brought a piece of mail addressed to her at our new place, and her boyfriend did not have anything that proved his address, so we explained the situation and vouched for him, and he gave the CM our new address as his mailing and residence address. Sounds kind of like the CMs or their supervisors just forgot who they were allowed to sell it too (or something).Posted 04-24-2009 at 11:37 PM by twobluestripes

Interesting update, as usual. Let's hope Disneyland starts providing a shuttle to all its parking lots.Posted 04-25-2009 at 10:32 AM by whamo

Taking buses in and out of Pummba lot is difficult and dangerous,we have had several near accidents with cars and pedestrians almost being run over. There is no well thought out or lite loading zone, the people run around and inbetween the buses where drivers can't see them and almost hit them.Buses must enter the lot through the rear exit against the oncoming exiting cars making for several near head on collisions at night in the very dark lot.We have none of those dangers across the street at the Gardenwalk structure.Disney will continue to avoid using buses at Pummba for the near future.Posted 04-25-2009 at 04:16 PM by Flyboy1313
