Cinco de Mayo - "On top of the wheel", plus Food, Wine and Beer. Is that enough, eh?
Hello, and welcome to a special May 5th (aka Cinco de Mayo) edition of "In the Parks". Yes, my photo "inbox" is full, and time to clean it out! Yesterday, Mickey's Fun Wheel soft-opened, which offers some great shots of the Timon Lot (Home of the upcoming Cars Land area) and some high shots of World of Color. So that will be a main focus, but we still have a lot of other things to talk about, including food, drink and news.... But NO Swine Flu stories!
Sunday was Bats Day in the Fun Park.
Last Sunday was Bats Day, which has moved, and now will be the first Sunday of May for the foreseeable future. This event is the gathering of Goths. What is a Goth, let's look at the description that Disney provided its CM's this week to explain the term to its guests.

Many Bat Day participants refer to themselves as "Goths" and much like people with other common cultural interests, such as Country/Western or Hip-Hop, "Goths" share many interests in apparel, music and art. It is a tradition for the members of this group to wear black clothing in order to identify themselves.
By the way, this year was almost incident free, especially in the "clothing" area. If you plan to attend in 2010, don't forget you are going to a Family Park, and not to a Club. Keep it PG, and not "R".
Here are a few photos from Sunday...

So many folks, they don't fit in one photo!

Big Kudos to Noah (Front and Center) and his staff for putting on Bats Days for years.

Parking... alas, you will see this Headline TOO many times in the future here.

The Timon Entrance at Harbor and Disney Way is closed on Sunday afternoon.
One of the long running issues that will be in the news at the Disneyland Resort this year, and more than likely, many times in the future is "Where will they park me?"
Last Sunday, Simba, Timon, Pummba and the available spaces at the Anaheim GardenWalk were full, plus there was lengthy delays at the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure. Disney was using the Anaheim Convention Center lot as an alternative.
As part of the economy issues, Disney is getting a much higher percentage of local guests, most of which want "day" parking. Alas, Disney has loss parking spaces the last few years, and work on the Timon lot is not helping matters at all.
Disney is working on a tram for the Simba Lot, but that won't start for a few weeks, due to traffic flow issues.
So be prepared, get to the park early, and be prepared for a wait. Also, follow the traffic control signage, and park at the lot they suggest. Your "favorite" lot could be closed.

Disney has brought back the Pummba Parking Lot Shuttle. Disney also offers buses if you park at the Anaheim Garden Walk, and Buzz Lightyear if needed. The Convention Center folks are expected to walk to the Timon Parking Lot, and then catch a tram for the last bit of the trip.

East end of the Timon Parking Lot is getting some repairs.

Love the mickey wheel. I think its perfect and makes me want to actually ride it again. Although it will never happen as I HATE ferris wheels. I feel it fits nicely with everything else they have updated/improved and gives the whole boardwalk feel more welcoming and exciting. Can't wait for more to be changing!Posted 05-05-2009 at 09:24 AM by Petchaurus
