Why the "Flushing" sound is a Good Thing, looking for a job, and much more!
Happy mid-May all... Heads up, we are just a week away from Memorial Day Weekend! (May 22nd through the 25th).
Where can I park?

On weekends, there is no easy answer. And it is going to get worse this summer, before it gets better.

Prep work at the East Side of the Timon Parking Lot
Alas, the combination of losing parking spaces due to construction, and the larger percentage of guests being local, is causing Disney a lot of headaches in where to place their vehicles while they visit.

As we said before, when you see a lot to park in, go for it. And don't expect to be able to bypass the traffic control folks, and park in Timon. More than likely, you will be told to make an U-Turn and head back to the outer lots, such as GardenWalk and Puumba.

Part of the Simba Lot got resurfaced this week, in preparation of becoming a major parking lot, to replace Timon later this year.
In fact, in the next few weeks, Timon will be closed as a Guest Parking Lot forever.
So take advantage of the "new" Shuttle service from Puumba and GardenWalk (and hopefully soon, Simba). But plan extra time to park, and then get from the parking space to the Main Entrance Plaza.
Why the "Flushing" sound is a GOOD Thing!
Back when DCA first opened, a lot of folks said that the park deserved to be flushed...
Here is an excellent thread regarding the early history of Disney's California Adventure...
http://micechat.com/forums/disneylan...t-4-years.html
But the current "Flushing" sound is a great sound, as it is part of the advancement of the Major Improvements for DCA.

This weekend, the "new" restrooms will open up on Restroom Row (aka the San Francisco area between the Grizzly Peak Recreation Area and Route 66).

The former Restrooms will be torn down as part of the installation of the new Little Mermaid Ride, next to the former Golden Dreams Theater.

So one more step forward towards DCA v2.0.
Steve DeGaetano reports that Disney has made changes to the Lilly Belle Caboose to appease the "Adventure by Disney" folks.
http://micechat.com/forums/disneylan...ompliance.html
I'm receiving word that the beautiful brass and wrought iron platform railing, as well as the train sign (or "drumhead") have been removed and destroyed in order to make the Lilly Belle ADA compliant. The railing has been cut and replaced by a chain to allow a ramp to be affixed. The drumhead will be removed in these instances. The "fixes" as described appear to be simple shortcuts, and require conductor assistance to make it all happen. I'm still trying to understand the changes, and how they appear. But from all indications, a large portion of the car has been destroyed. There is the fear that eventually they will need to widen the doorways.
Much more at the the link, but it seems like due to some corporate pressure, part of Disneyland's early History has been lost.
Seems like there was many other alternatives available, but some folks didn't want to listen.
Knott's Berry Farm Ghost Town has become better.

Nothing major, but Knott's had to rebuild part of Ghost Town due to age and safety reasons. But when they finished, they brought back part of the original history.

While the Building were rebuilt and new, due to safety. Knott's did restore the original animated characters (very basic movement) and restored the original soundtracks.

The sound is where Knott's went above and beyond. First, the restored the original soundtracks, and then placed new speaker systems in the area, to deliver a nice, crisp experience in the area.
And while we are discussing Knott's...

Garden Grove City Council approves a Hotel/Water Park combination
http://www.ocregister.com/articles/p...eveloper-hotel
GARDEN GROVE City Council members unanimously voted in favor of a 6-acre water park hotel development on Harbor Boulevard over the objections of residents who live in an RV park, which will have to be eliminated for the hotel to be built.
Tuesday night's vote is the first step to allow Colorado-based developer McWhinney build a 600-room hotel with a 3-acre attached water park, which will be an exclusive amenity to the hotel's guests. Construction, if the developer obtains financing for the project, is expected to begin in July 2012. The project is expected to bring in about $5.2 million in revenue to the city and hundreds of temporary and permanent jobs. The city will give the land to the developer and also spend $5 million to build a parking structure.
And while by no means is it a done deal, but it is a step in the right direction for the City, which in the past has gone a bit overboard in its "dreams".

In case you missed it, D23 announced new events that make the D23 membership a better deal.
http://micechat.com/disney-company-n...ts-and-events/
My favorite is the tour of the Disney Archives. Of course, all events have limited space, and there is no guarantee that you will make the list. But the nice thing is that these events are free for D23 members.
14th Annual Taste of Anaheim
Close to 5,000 folks attended the Taste of Anaheim last night at Anaheim GardenWalk, hosted by the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce.

The event, designed to showcase all the great restaurants in Anaheim was once again very popular with its fans.

Eli Mattson, the runner-up of the 3rd season of America's Got Talent was the Headline of entertainment offered as part of the event.

That should do it for this week. To all those who stopped me last night at the Taste of Anaheim, it was a pleasure meeting you, and thanks for the kind words.
Have a great weekend... Amazing that Summer is almost here! And that the SoCal Water Parks are just a week away from opening!

Dave, I have to apologize. I meant to PM you the link to this thread about the old Knott's Cage Bird Theatre show returning for a limited time. I know you love all that old stuff and would have wanted it included in your blog.
Here is the link for those who are interested.

I have to hand it to Cedar Fair for restoring the Ghost Town at Knott's. They already destroyed much, but if they want to add new attractions, here's a thought. The walkways in the back area, (the Boardwalk?) are so wide, and it seems unnecessarily so, I'm wondering if they can rebuild the area to make the walkways narrower so it would make room for new stuff?Posted 05-15-2009 at 10:48 AM by Disneykin Kid

While we're on the Knotts subject, the All American Melodrama Theater and Music Hall is actually doing some shows from the old Birdcage theater in front of the original drops! It's really too cool. Check out their website Page 1Posted 05-15-2009 at 11:34 AM by kidpirate

I am shocked but pleased that Cedar Fair has restored things. Good for them and they just went up a notch for me. And repeating what others have mentioned, The Great American Melodrama Theater is wonderful. I'm going to the Birdcage Show this Sunday afternoon and I also regularly attend the Billy Hill Green Team Show they put on once a month (but not in June due to prior commitment). Also we were told at this last Wednesday show that Dana Daniels (who used to perform at The Golden Horseshoe) will be performing there again in June. It's great, great fun.Posted 05-15-2009 at 04:09 PM by Wendygirl
