Blowing up Dumbo and The Summer of "D23" comes to the Anaheim Resort
OK, Disney really isn't blowing up Dumbo, but he is featured in the new "Magical" Fireworks show that officially starts next Friday, June 12th, along with the Disney's Electrical Parade, and Fantasmic! But if you want to check out the new Fireworks show, it will be offered Tonight (June 5th), Tomorrow and Monday. (Of course, these are tests, and subject to change and even cancellation).

The Anaheim Resort District Banners will Plug the D23 Expo ALL Summer long

Driving around Anaheim, and you are missing the D23 Expo ads that are normally found here at MiceAge.... No worries, as anyone in the Anaheim Resort Area will not miss these ads....
The ads will remain up until after the Expo, when we should see the Happy New Year! banners go up. (Last Year, the City of Anaheim placed the banners up in late September).

NFFC Disneyana registration has opened

Can't wait for the D23 Expo, no worries.... The 25th NFFC Disneyana Convention and All Disneyana Show will be held July 14th through the 19th. This very popular event will also be held in the Disneyland Resort area.

Heck, if "Ariel" is showing up, I will be there!!!!
Summer Nightastic! is almost here
If you live in the Southern California area, you have seen the ads, and Disney is also hoping you have seen this at your local Grocery Store...

And please note, the wording is very clear, each and every person that uses this special ParkHopper needs to live in the Southern California (90000-93599) or Baja California, Mexico (21000-22999) zip codes.
And you can get this ticket at the Main Entrance Ticket Booths, and can be used in combination with the "Free" Birthday Admission. So if you live in Southern California, and your Birthday is between today and August 23rd, you can upgrade to the Summer Fun Pass for just $30 if you show your Government issued ID on your actual day of birth at the park.
Of course, Disney has set up a special website promoting the events.

My thoughts on the new "Magical" Fireworks

Had the chance to see the new show, in test mode, on Wednesday night, and pretty much the show delivered what we have mentioned here at MiceAge for months.

A good show, a bit shorter in length (right around 15 minutes) with less fireworks.

Disney does know how to make great soundtracks. And "Magical" does have the Disney feel, but seems a bit repetitive at times.

The vast majority of Fireworks are now Long Range shells that are launched from backstage, which does help open up the castle area and should hopefully create less traffic control issues.

The main show in front of the castle is now Tinkerbell and the addition of "Dumbo". Brady MacDonald of the Los Angeles Times has a very interesting article regarding the Flying Dumbo and how it gets to fly in the show.

While I have only seen this show once, IMHO, seeing the show anywhere in the park is about the same experence. So go enjoy Fantasmic! at the Rivers of America and watch the show from there, or in front of "it's a small world". You might not get to see Dumbo, but you will get 99% of the show anywhere that you can hear the Soundtrack.

Most of the Grand Californian Hotel Front Desk is being refurbished

For those Corn Dog Fans, the item has been added to the Farmer's Market Menu (near First Aid at DCA). Why is it that Disney places Corn Dogs next to First Aid???

And for those Cove Bar fans, it is officially Summer, as the bar is now open 7 days a week for the season!

The Tarps are gone at Peter Pan.

Well, that should do it for this week....
A few quick comments.... MiceChat's Gumball Rally 3 was held last week, and went off amazing smoothly, thanks to all the Staff/Volunteers that ran the event, and our friends at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel.

Of course, every Sunday is the "Noon Meet at the Hub", an Internet tradition for over a Decade. Make sure and come out and say hello to the many Disney Fans that show up.
Alas, I won't make the next couple of meets... First off, this Sunday is my "hometown" Chili cookoff..

(Wow, another 25th...)
Then off to Six Flags Magic Mountain on June 14th and the American Coaster Enthusists special event.

And in case you don't know it, TV is going Digital in the US.... If you haven't checked it out, you have one week left before the change. (And the weird fact of the week, the SoCal area is the least prepared area of the country for the changeover to Digital).

Great Update! Quick question about upgrading to a summer fun pass, if my younger niece doesn't have a government issued ID, (shes never gotten one because she's only like 8), can she still upgrade to the fun pass on her birthday for 30 or so dollars? Would a Birth Certificate do the job?Posted 06-05-2009 at 07:38 AM by StriderGX35

Thanks for the updates. One note though - I saw the show on Wednesday too and I personally think you see a lot less than 99% of the show from other points in the park. A significant portion of the show is the exciting lighting effects on the castle!! All the different colors, the backlights, the spotlights - the show is designed to be viewed from somewhere in front of the castle - so, in my opinion, see it that way! But if you're just into fireworks - sure, you can see it anywhere.Posted 06-05-2009 at 08:27 AM by airick75
