Time to clean out the e-mail and head to Knott's Berry Farm
Posted 08-28-2009 at 06:06 AM by In the Parks
Lots of photos today and news from Disneyland, Knott's, Anaheim Garden Walk, as well as the information you've been waiting for on Murphy the dragon and Captain EO. And later today, be sure to tune in to Channel 7 news in LA (KABC), as I'm filming a consumer segment today on theme park savings.More Proof the British are Crazy.
Let's get started with a "fun" one.....
OK, my Grandparents on my mother's side are from England, but this story is just silly....And even more CRAZY news.... No more "Calico Ghost Town"

Heck, I have a better idea, make a deal with Right Guard and hand out free samples when you get in line!Quote:
The new rule will apply at the theme park in Chertsey, Surrey, from Wednesday and signs will tell visitors to keep their arms down and 'Say no to BO'.
With temperatures expected to reach 84F (29C), managers expect an excess of perspiration as visitors queue to go on rides.
Wardens on the rides will also remind people to consider their fellow passengers and anyone ignoring the warnings will be escorted off. Those who continue to do so will be asked to leave the park.
Mike Vallis, a director at Thorpe Park, said: "We've found that when the temperature tops 77F (25C) the level of unpleasant smells can become unacceptable and we do receive complaints.
"Our rides are really scary and people tend to sweat more than normal due to the fear and anticipation they experience while queueing up so it can get really pongy. Therefore, we felt a ban in temperatures of 25C plus would be the best way to ensure our guests have the most enjoyable experience and aren't exposed to any unsavoury armpits."

Sounds like the "Marketing Execs" are at it again.....Quote:
I read in the newspaper (so I know it's true) that San Bernardino County Regional Park officials are changing the name of Calico Ghost Town so that it won't have the word "Ghost" in it any more.
As this information sunk in, my first thought was, "Are they crazy?"
Then I thought about it some more and I decided, "Yes, they definitely are crazy."
Taking the "Ghost" out of Calico Ghost Town is like taking the "Disney" out of Disneyland, or the "Berry" out of Knott's Berry Farm, or the "Magic" out of Six Flags Magic Mountain.
County officials say they are making the change to "broaden the appeal" of the park, located northeast of Barstow. Already two new billboards have been put up along the 15 Freeway that reflect the change, and the Calico Ghost Town Web site is now www.calicotown.com.
No ghost.
Like I said, these people are crazy.
Sigh, but let me quote the article... "Calico Ghost Town has a colorful history and reputation that should be honored and upheld - intact." Amen!
Halloween is getting closer and closer...In case you missed it... No Murphy this weekend!
Here is a look at the "Meat Market" scare zone at Universal Studios Hollywood from the Los Angeles Times.

From Al Lutz's Editor comments from today at the top of the page of MiceAge....A chance to check out Knott's History on Saturday
And FYI, here are a couple of links to the major SoCal Newspapers who report on Disneyland.Quote:
8/28:Captain EO has now received the green light to return to Tomorrowland, but the timing was too tight to make it by HalloweenTime. Hooter and the gang will now land at Disneyland this January to boost winter attendance, with the official announcement coming from Jay Rasulo at the D23 Expo. Murphy the Dragon will be a no show at Fantasmic this weekend, but his arrival is imminent now and you can be confident your local SoCal newspaper's website will give you several hours notice before he debuts. - Al Lutz

A new book by theme park historian Jay Jennings shows the old days at Knott's Berry Farm, pulling together hundreds of photographs to tell the story of Walter and Cordelia Knott, and their small roadside berry stand that grew into a famous restaurant, and a park that is now one of California’s best-known attractions....
Jennings will be on hand to sign his book from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Mrs. Knott's Chicken Dinner Restaurant. Special guests will include Walter and Cordelia Knott’s grandson, Steve Knott. The event is free.

Hope everyone has a great weekend and stays COOL (It was 102 at Disneyland yesterday!) - we'll see you in the parks!

The BO Story from the UK is a joke, trying to get more publicity for the park, but has backfired slightly.
Alton Towers, also in the UK, recently banned "Speedos" from being worn at their Waterpark, which also backfired.

"I am off to Knott's Berry Farm to film a segment for Channel 7 news in LA (KABC) this morning..."
Isn't that the same ABC that's owned by Disney? Man, you're almost on the payroll. It's just funny... I was watching Good Morning America on ABC while reading your report when I decided Disney owned enterprises were taking up too much of my available attention. So, I grabbed the remote and changed the channel to SportsCenter on ESPN. ...damn. It's true, one day Disney will own everything... even you.Posted 08-28-2009 at 08:52 AM by MaliceInWonderland

Regarding Disney using PVC or other wood composites (to replace actual wood). Just like replacing your windows at home, it does make sense. However I agree some PVC looks cheap. You can get what is called "dimensional PVC lumber" which means that is manufactured in sizes similar to wood stock (2x4s, planks, etc.). This stuff looks greats and now it even comes in white with graining that makes it look just like wood. It is actually far more expensive to use, but over time that cost is negated due to zero maintenance and lasting far longer. It’s also a “green” product.Posted 08-28-2009 at 09:10 AM by KENfromOC

Speaking of the L.A. County Fair, did anyone ever notice that the Fair always seems to coincide with the worst possible heat wave of the year?
It's bad enough that's it's located way out in Pomona, where the temps are always a lot higher than they are near the coast, but it seems like temperatures always seem to peak just about the same time that the Fair takes place... Always makes me think twice about making that long drive out to Pomona.
I wonder if they've ever given serious consideration to moving the date of the Fair to a cooler time of year? I'd certainly be in favor of it...Posted 08-28-2009 at 11:06 AM by FredSimmons
