This article is brought to you by the letter "C"...Changes, Cabana's and Closures
Hey, it is Friday, and I hope you have a MUCH better weekend than I will have (Bridezilla will be dragging me around town doing "wedding" planning). Let's get to the news, which is weird this week, and some great photos.
Knott's... I love you, but??????
The Bees are finally being removed
The Main Street Magic Shop has new windows, focusing on Harry Houdini. The shop will soon reopen filled with items from Houdini Magic Company items. The shop is currently being decked out with Houdini artifacts and magic tricks. Mimi's Cafe is the most popular booth for CHOC Walk, as they hand out a LOT of free food. (and Thanks to Mimi's!)
No More Hand santizer at the Petting Zoo area (aka Big Thunder Ranch), guess Soap is cheaper than Purell.....
The Irvine Spectrum Center is installing its Annual Ice Rink. Not open yet, but will be in the next couple of weeks.
Here's a little weekend tip: If you live in the Hollywood/Santa Monica area, Audi is offering some free movie tickets to the AFI Fest. www.afi.com

Knott's... I love you, but??????
This is tough to write about, I am getting married at Knott's on January 9th, but some of the recent decisions are just "strange".Six Flags to try and break the Michael Jackson Thriller Dance Record
Knott’s Berry Farm to add 1980s-era thrill ride in 2010 - Travel - LATimes.com
What the HECK???? When I went to Cedar Point a few years ago, we decided to not ride Demon Drop as it was a "repeat" of a similar ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
While I am happy that they are removing an "up-charge" ride (Screamin' Swing was a great ride) for a "free" ride, this is just screaming "Cheap".
Now, I understand that Knott's (and every other SoCal park) wants to focus on 2012 and will try and compete with the new Cars Land at DCA, and that is the main focus in Marketing. So we should see some major new additions in the SoCal area.
And we have some MAJOR changes in the Knott's Winter Promos...
Knott's Mobile
First off, the Orange County Health and Welfare employees will not get a free admission this year. In past years, they were included with the Fire and Police promotion.
And the very popular Toys for Tots promo has been changed. Now you MUST buy your toy at Knott's ($15 or more) for a free admission. If you bring in a toy from outside the park, you will be given a coupon that allows you to enter for $15. So that is a $15 or more for the toy, and then an extra $15 to enter the park if you buy something outside the park.
I know that a large segment were "cheap" and brought toys that were less than $15 and got into the park. But I truly hope that Knott's doesn't sell "cheap" toys for $15, and instead sell some "serious" toys that will make kids happy, and not just some stuffed animals.
For some reason, Six Flags Magic Mountain is NOT part of this event????Universal makes a deal with Steven Spielberg

SIX FLAGS PARKS JOIN WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT FOR BIGGEST SIMULTANEOUS THRILLER
DANCE
NEW YORK, Oct. 22 -- Six Flags theme parks across the
U.S. and Mexico will take part in a worldwide attempt to set a new world
record for the largest simultaneous dance to Michael Jackson's Thriller on
Saturday, October 24 at 8:30 p.m. EDT along with all coordinating time zones
in 42 countries comprising five continents.
This is the Thrill the World organization's third attempt to set a new record,
with a goal of 10,000 to 50,000 individuals dancing to Thriller. In the wake
of Jackson's untimely death in June, organizers say this year's event is
intended to be an unprecedented global celebration of the music icon's life
and legacy.
Participating Six Flags parks include Six Flags America (Bowie, MD), Six Flags
Discovery Kingdom (Vallejo, CA), Six Flags Fiesta Texas (San Antonio, TX), Six
Flags Great America (Gurnee, IL), Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom (Louisville, KY),
Six Flags Mexico, Six Flags New England (Agawam, MA) Six Flags Over Texas
(Arlington, TX), Six Flags St. Louis (Eureka, MO), and The Great Escape (Lake
George, NY). Guests with park admission are welcome to sign up and
participate.
Fright Fest presented by SNICKERS® takes place weekends through November 1
with thrills by day and chills by night. Visit sixflags.com for more
information and park operating hours.

In addition, the delay could prove more lucrative for Spielberg because attendance at Universal Orlando is expected to get a boost beginning next spring when a lavish attraction based on "Harry Potter" opens.
The deal amendment also states that Spielberg's obligations will transfer to any new owners, a potentially important point because NBC Universal may be taken over by cable operator Comcast Corp. in a deal under discussion with GE.
This Sunday will be the last time you can ride the "traditional" small world attraction until 2010, as it will be closing for the changeover to the Holiday version. The Grand Californian Hotel adds "Rent a Cabana" to its portfolio.
With the expansion of the GCH, Disney has found a way to make some extra profit.Whitewater Snacks at GCH raises its prices
You can rent a cabana for $185 (Eight and half hours) or $115 for Four Hours.
Nachos are now $9.99... WOW!Selected Photos from Darkbeer.Smugmug.com

Demon Drop at Knott's???? Ludicrous decision. Does Knott's need this in that spot? It's not as if most of us didn't have the chance to ride Freefall right down the 5 freeway for 20 or so years it was there.
Every time I've visited Cedar Point, the line for Demon drop has been virtually a walk on. The time I rode it, it was painful. It wrenched my neck and jolted my head (and I like thrill rides!) There is a reason Cedar Fair can find no buyers for this thing. Knott's and the public deserve something better than this. C'mon Cedar Fair, this is a ridiculous move.Posted 10-23-2009 at 07:51 PM by Scotty

Cabanas? When I saw "The Lion King" and stayed at the Mandalay Hotel this summer (got a free upgrade through Disney), I noticed they rented Cabanas there for similar prices. It's strictly for high rollers as far as I'm concerned. If I wanted that much privacy I'd go to my room. They must have a market for such extravagance, though, or they wouldn't do it.Posted 10-23-2009 at 08:00 PM by whamo

These were actually designed by the owner of Houdini's, using artifacts from his personal collection. If you look close the windows have illusions in them. The spinning wheel, if you look at closely for 30 seconds and then look at your hand something cool happens. The other window...lets just say watch the red silk every 12 minutes or so....Posted 10-23-2009 at 09:43 PM by Louiedog

Very disappointed about:
1) Knotts deciding to remove OC Health and Welfare workers in the free ticket promotion. I was planning on bringing my niece for our annual trip. Not now! Knotts is not worth the admission price they charge, however I love the shopping and food items in the park. Big bummer!
2) The price of nachos at Whitewater. Whoa! I someone feel that I am partly to blame for exposing the secret goodness of Whitewater....specifically the nachos! I had bit my tongue in the past, wanting to remain quiet in case crowds overtook my respite. Alas, I will not be eating the nachos quite as often. Seems like a hefty price jump.Posted 10-24-2009 at 09:39 AM by fluffatu

Cedar Faire (parent company of the Knott's / Cedar Point park chain) has been shuffling rides around for at least a couple years. Makes economic sense - you can recycle rides between parks at a fraction of the cost of a new ride.
And wow - a picture may be worth a thousand words, but a few pixels of poor punctuation can trigger an avalanche of pet peeve complaints. Poor Al Lutz - he probably won't be able to get through his email inbox for weeks, what with all the donations rolling in to hire a full time proofreader...

Twenty years ago a "recycled ride" from the other end of the country would have gone unnoticed, but that was before the Internet. If they are going to all the trouble of putting something in, buy a new up to date ride.
DustySage is right, News reporting on the Internet is "History in a Hurry". IMHO grammar and spelling are always important and you try to catch them, but it's not the end of the world if a few misteaks
slip by as you rush to make deadline.
Typos and gaffes happen - you see them, go back and fix them (or not), and life goes on. And you never pick on someone else's goofs, because Karma Happens.
JCruise86: Small World will be open again in a few weeks, and through the end of the year - but as Small World Holiday. The overlay won't be removed till (appx.) the second week in January. Last chance this year without the overlay.Posted 10-25-2009 at 01:12 AM by Bruce Bergman

Question for the apostrophe police:
I notice that 'Knott's Berry Farm' is often shortened to just 'Knott's'. What is the proper way to say this? 'Knott'? or 'Knott's'? I would imagine it should be 'Knott' since the object (Berry Farm) being possessed was dropped or does the common pronunciation trump the technical version?Posted 10-26-2009 at 12:40 PM by Jolly Green Giant

The old timers who worked on the Disney lot while Walt was alive usually refer to it as "Disney's." As in, "Walt Disney's Studio."Quote:Question for the apostrophe police:
