9/16/08 - Monday in the Parks (Special Tuesday edition) - Greg Emmer's new Window
As mentioned in my regular Monday article...
http://micechat.com/forums/blogs/mon...otos-tips.html

Greg Emmer, the former Senior Vice President of Disneyland Resort Operations got one of the highest honors the company can give, a window dedicated to him on Main Street. Greg spent almost 40 years in with Disney Parks and Resorts, starting as a ride operator in Disneyland in 1968, moving to WDW when it opened, and returned to Disneyland in 2003.

Notice that the Window is directly above the tribute to all Cast Members that was placed in 2005 as part of Disneyland's 50th Anniversary. Greg was a CM favorite, as most knew that he worked his way up, and was in their shoes years ago.

Many folks recognize the team of Matt Ouimet, former President of the Disneyland Resort and who brought Greg Emmer back from WDW to Anaheim for the major improvements to Disneyland to prepare it for the 50th Anniversary that started in 2005.

Greg is a major Golf fanatic, and here is hoping that he is enjoying his retirement on the links, well, unless his wife says otherwise

We said it yesterday, and we will say it again. Everyone at MiceAge/MiceChat congratulates Greg Emmer for the MAJOR honor and wish him well in his future endeavors, even if it is just to try and make a hole in one
And for those who want to know more about Greg Emmer and his impact on Disneyland, Al Lutz wrote about him back in January when his retirement was announced.

A couple of other minor updates
The last McDonald's Logo has left the Disneyland Resort, as the Conestoga Fries Wagon had some major demo overnight. (Well, other than the tables in DCA near Burger Invasion, they still have the Golden Arches on them...)

Sunday evening, the wagon was there in full, including all the menus and logos. Today, it is pretty much gone.

All the equipment has been removed from the structure, which might mean that the entire structure will be removed.

Big Thunder Ranch is getting Halloween Themed

Monday was the first day that the Big Thunder Ranch area was closed for the installation of the overlay for Halloween Time. It will reopen on Friday, September 26th as part of the start of the Halloween events.
Unite Here 681 Union hopes to wear down Disney with bad PR
Adam Townsend of the Orange County Register has a very interesting article detailing the battle between the main Hotel Union and the Disneyland Resort.

Tom Revnue, a labor lawyer from a Midwest firm that represents corporate clients throughout the nation, said that Disney's public image is a particularly vulnerable point of attack. He said it seems union leaders hope to wear down Disney's public image until the company succumbs to demands, particularly demands concerning workers' health benefits.
"The union is trying to tarnish Disney's corporate image by doing what they're doing," Revnue said. "If you look at a company like Disney, their corporate image is very important to them – they bill themselves as being the happiest place on earth."

Well, that should do it for this special update, of course there are more photos at Darkbeer's photos- powered by SmugMug and thanks again for making MiceAge a regular part of your Internet surfing.

I only know about Greg Emmer through articles like this, and to hear how he was a standard bearer of the Disney that we love and admire makes me sad that he is gone and a little upset that he may have been forced out. It seems like the team of Ouimet and Emmer were unbeatable, but it's sad that it seems they couldn't survive in a corporate culture that seems to still exist at Disney. Iger seems to be great, but maybe someone else in the middle should be gone?Posted 09-16-2008 at 09:49 AM by Disneykin Kid

Thank you for showing the window and posting the update. I was fortunate to work with Greg in FL - great mentor, coach, leader, and grass roots person. The window is a fitting tribute! Posted 09-19-2008 at 11:24 AM by UnderTheSeas
