It might have been easier to say that DCA closes more of its Parade Route for Refurb just in time for Peak Thanksgiving week. Disney is in a time crunch, as they have committed to bring back Disney's Electrical Parade to the park for Peak Christmas Season, which starts on December 18th. The section of the Parade Route from the entrance to Wine Country Trattorria all the way to the end of Bathroom Row next to the Palace of Fine Arts replica has been placed behind refurb walls.





Disney is rerouting guests to Paradise Pier through the Bugs Land and Pacific Wharf areas if they are walking from Sunshine Plaza. For those coming from Grizzly Peak area, you end up in a confusing area at the base of the Palace of Fine Arts replica. You can make the turn and go down the narrow pathway towards the Golden Zepher, or take a new path to the Paradise Pier bridge and Ariel's Grotto.



All of this temporary confusion is to allow additional construction work for the new entrance area to the World of Color Amphitheater area, which should re-open by mid December, along with the rest of the Entertainment Corridor area. The work should make the area at least wide enough to allow the Electrical Parade floats to pass though. Depending on how the construction goes, they might not have enough done to allow viewing of the Parade in certain areas of the current construction zone during the Peak Christmas season.

The former Enchanted Cottage Restaurant in Fantasyland, next to the Princess Fantasy Faire Princess meet and greet area reopened yesterday.




The menu is pretty basic, just a Bratwurst sandwich, Baked Potatoes, Corn on the Cob and a Kids meal that is basically all cold food items, plus drinks.



FYI, this is not where you will find the world's largest glass of Guinness, because the term Tavern is misleading. No Alcoholic Beverages will be served at the stand.

Also interesting to note, this is not the first Troubadour Tavern to open in a Disney park. Tokyo Disneyland has a soft serve ice cream stand with the same name in its Fantasyland area.

Sanuk, a sandal store, opened up to guests yesterday. This temporary store, located in-between Little Miss Matched and Ridemakerz, sells some unique footwear. It will close after Christmas to allow Ridemakerz to expand its location.

The San Diego Chargers Girls (well, a couple of them) will be at the ESPN Zone this weekend to sign autographs and sell their 2010 Chargers Girls Calendar, which part of the proceeds will go to Rady's Children's Hospital in San Diego. FYI, the times and dates that they are scheduled to appear are different at the website as compared to what was mentioned in the Orange County Register yesterday, so I would call ahead to make sure when they will be there.

Maps around the resort still show the former Timon Parking Lot. The Grand Californian still has "coming soon" maps up, even though they charge a hefty price (TripAdvisor.com shows a current average price of $469 for GCH).



And then there are the Downtown Disney Directories. The current directories have 4 former locations still listed. If I was a tenant paying rent to Downtown Disney, I would be upset that I have had a store opened for months, but not listed on the Directories to help customers find my location.



For a company that prides itself in Guest Service, it is a shame they can't find the budget to replace the maps to show the current status of the resort.

They will be very true starting today due to the expected large crowds for Thanksgiving week.

However, there was a bit on confusion regarding the Anaheim GardenWalk Parking Structure. For the most part, it operates as the parking area for the shops and restaurants for Garden Walk, and they have their own set of parking policies - A couple of hours of free parking and additional free parking with validations. Most times you drive into the parking area, Disneyland guests/AP holders get no special parking privileges, and are expected to pay the going rate.

Now, Disney has a deal with AGW to use certain Parking Spaces for Theme Park parking, and when Disney is actively parking those spaces, then a different set of rules apply.

You can tell that Disney is parking the structure by noticing the Anaheim Police Department directing Theme Park Guests into AGW at the Disney Way entrance, along with the Electronic signs directing folks there. Also, when you enter the lot, a Disneyland Cast Member will be standing at the Toll Gates collecting money and verifying Parking Passes. When you enter at this time, you will be handed a validated ticket to exit the structure. The best thing to do is to leave that credit card sized ticket in your car so you don't lose it. AGW uses a fully automated Parking system, and there is no human being to help you when you leave, so if you don't have your validated exit ticket, you either have to stick your Credit Card into the machine to exit, or park and go to an automated machine to buy a "lost ticket" to exit.

So if you drive in and get a ticket from a machine, you are parking under the AGW rules, and your Annual Pass Parking Pass does you no good. ONLY if a Disney CM is standing at the gate can you use your Parking Pass.

OK, I have had the computer handle "Darkbeer" for over 30 years now, so you know I couldn't miss this event, being held in my own town.

The Auld Dubliner, located in "The District" a large Shopping Mall in Tustin is planning to pour 400 Gallons of Guinness into an Eight Foot High glass this Saturday, starting at Noon and expected to last most of the business day.

The event will benefit the Orange County Fallen Firefighters Fund.

The address is 2497 Park Avenue, Tustin, CA. And if you can't make it, I will be there taking photos of the event. Should be a fun event.

Last year, the America section of "it's a small world" was behind curtains during the Holiday version. This year it has received a minor holiday layover.


Storybook Land Canal Boats and Casey Jr. Circus Train are scheduled to reopen this morning after a long refurb.

OK, let's end the article with my Sports Stuff for the week.

Let's start with the fact that the Irish National Soccer Team got JOBBED! Wednesday, due to the Referee not seeing an admitted Hand Ball by France, lost a chance to participate in the World Cup next summer. Hopefully FIFA will take steps to fix the situation. It looks like they won't use Video Replays, but placing an additional Assistant Referee behind each goal would be a great improvement, at least in Major matches.

And this Sunday is the MLS Cup, and the LA Galaxy will be trying to win another Championship.... GO GALAXY!!!

And then there are MY Chargers, playing an important game against the Broncos on Sunday, with the winner taking over the top of the AFC west division... GO CHARGERS!!!

Yes, we have talked about this a lot, but it is an ongoing problem with no easy solution.



This Wednesday afternoon, Disney closed the Parking Structure to incoming vehicles and were rerouting guests to other lots. Guests reported times of over 90 minutes from the time they got off the freeway to getting to the Main Entrance Plaza. They basically had the cars go down Disneyland Drive to the Simba Lot entrance, but had the cars make a left turn onto the back road next to DCA, with assistance of the Anaheim Police Department, as there is no left turn at the light normally. Cars then got to Harbor Blvd and were told to make a right on Harbor to the Buzz Lightyear lot.

This created a lot of problems. The Ball Road Flyover was closed since there is no outlet to Disneyland Drive Southbound. Also, they had Anaheim PD at the corner of Magic Way forcing everyone to go straight, so no access to the Downtown Disney Parking Lot from either direction.

This had a lot of folks confused, including Disney owned Hotel Guests trying to access their Hotel Parking lots, and locals just wanting to get past the Disneyland Resort and onto West Street.

It also caused a fender bender accident (requiring police and a tow truck) on Harbor Blvd at Disney Way, which slowed down the folks trying to exit the former Timon Parking Lot road to access Buzz Lightyear.

And since they were filling up Buzz Lightyear quickly, there was a large group of folks trying to board the Coach America Buses to get to the park.



Yes, it was Veteran's Day, but today is the start of the Christmas Season, Thanksgiving is coming up, and many special events will create parking hassles on a regular basis as Disneyland is seeing a larger percentage of its park visitors being locals.

So what to do? As mentioned earlier, one key is to get to the park as early as possible, before the main parking lots fill up. Currently those are the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure, Pumbaa and Anaheim GardenWalk locations. Follow the signage and police direction and park where they tell you. Trying to find a "different" lot will more than likely have you making a circle and coming right back to where they wanted you to park in the first place, or directing even further away. Also, think about carpooling or using public transportation. And if you are staying at a nearby hotel, leave your car at the Hotel/Motel and take a shuttle. Every lot at Disney requires the use of a bus/tram anyways (unless you get sent to Simba, which ends up being a long walk and no shuttle/tram service is available).

Disney is trying to address the problem. They are no longer allowing most Cast Members to park in either the Simba Lot or the Ball Lot (which is the flat parking area just north of the Parking Structure). Work is also progressing on the new lot next to Buzz Lightyear and Pongo.

Alas, in hindsight, Disney should have had the new lot completed prior to closing down the Timon Lot for the CarsLand construction and moved the CM's to the Katella Lot to free up the Simba/Ball spaces for paying customers or even further away (such as a parking lot on the East side of I-5, where land prices are less expensive). But that didn't happen and everyone is paying the price for it. Not just the Disneyland Resort Guests, but also the CM's and folks that live, work and shop in the area.



And even when Disney gets the new parking lot open, you still will have the issues of the parking structure filling up, requiring those cars to be redirected to the Parking area south of Katella using City Streets. The good news is that the city is requiring Disney to install new computerized Traffic Light controls in the area, and to make lane adjustments (such as adding additional left turn lanes) on some of the roadways. But you still will have the cars on the city streets, and then you will have more buses on Harbor to take the folks to the parks and back. Hopefully they will reprogram the Main Pedestrian Crossing traffic light, so that the pedestrians have their own "cycle", since the current programming have guests crossing the street the same time that Trams/buses are trying to make a right turn to go Southbound on Harbor Blvd, which basically ends up with only a couple of Trams getting to make the turn before the light changes.


The Pongo Parking Lot, which is sometimes used for guests, and other times for CM parking, currently Guests have been using this lot a lot, which is near the Buzz Lightyear lot.

This Sunday, November 15th, a Cheer/Dance competition will be held at the Anaheim Convention Center. Then another, larger one will be held on Saturday, December 5th, which has already caused large numbers of hotel rooms to be booked in the area.

Other upcoming events in the Southern California area including two major College Bowl games. First, the Traditional Rose Bowl game on January 1st and then the BCS National Championship game to be played at the Rose Bowl on Thursday, January 7th. These games bring in large groups of fans that will spend a few days seeing the sights, along with the game.

The Largest Convention that is held at the Anaheim Convention Center, the NAMM Show, is January 14th through the 17th, which happens to be the same weekend as the Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Holiday.

Then the Cheer/Dance competitions start back up in February through April.

Add to that the special discounts that Disneyland offers in the January through April period, both to locals, and to visiting guests, and you have busy times for the foreseeable future.

The Out-of-Town Guests ticket special is better than last year. Three through Six day ParkHoppers will be offered to all guests at less than normal advance purchase kids price. They are available at Disneyland.com/tickets, where you can see all the rules for the special offers.

Disneyland has installed Hand Sanitizer dispensers near the park entrances and at many Character Meet and Greet locations. (Including one next to Lighting McQueen and Mater, are they worried that oil transmits the H1N1 virus?)



Ironically, Disney recently just removed the Hand Sanitizer dispensers in the Big Thunder Ranch Petting Zoo area and were telling guests to wash their hands with soap and water, instead of giving them the option. Hopefully, when the Petting Zoo area reopens in January, they will install a couple of the dispensers in the area.

Disney is continuing in its replacement and rebuilding of all the bridges in the area. The current project is the bridge that is used to access the Carnation Plaza Gardens.

Knott's has closed its Pink's Hot Dog location to rebuild and improve the venue

Knott's has moved up the upgrade to the new Pink's Hot Dog location. They opened it up in October to service the Halloween Haunt crowds and was going to leave it open until January, but decided to go ahead and close it down to speed up the construction and have a better venue for serving the famous Pink's Hot Dogs next year.



Also, don't forget Knott's serves a great Thanksgiving Day Meal. However, it is very popular and reservations are highly recommended.

Six Flags Magic Mountain is offering free admission to its park on Wednesday, November 25th to those who bring a full bag of non-perishable groceries to the park.

I presume most of you have seen the news that was mentioned at the top of the MiceAge front page yesterday and/or the MiceChat Boards: New Chairman Of Disney Parks And Resorts

Basically Bob Iger told the two gentleman that they were going to switch positions for the betterment of the company. Listening to the Quarterly Earnings Conference Call yesterday, which featured Bob Iger and Tom Staggs (in his last conference call as CFO) there were some interesting comments, one of which has the switch being made to help groom a replacement for Bob Iger when he retires. (This comment came from one of the outside "analysts" and not a Disney Representative). But it makes sense. Having both men learn more, and seeing how they both perform in the new roles gives Bob Iger a better idea of which one would be the better choice in the upcoming years. Also, some fresh blood might bring some positive change, or so they hope.

Disney spread out the filming of the Disneyland Resort filming of the Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade this year. (Yes, Disney has changed the name, which used to be called the WDW Christmas Day Parade) in my opinion, it is a good decision as it does feature multiple parks across the world.

Saturday, Disney was locked into filming the Dance Troops segment, as it was prearranged months in advance, and it is also hard to get all those kids to take a day off of school for the filming. But it was short, and started around 11 AM, so it wasn't that bad of a traffic jam, as a large portion of the guests have already entered the park and have left Main Street.

Sunday, Disney decided to film in New Orleans Square and in front of the Castle, once again keeping traffic being blocked to a minimum on a busy Sunday at the parks.

Monday was the main "Parade" segments that feature Ryan Seacrest as host. The park opened at 10 AM (actually Main Street at 9:30), but they didn't start until about 11 AM to allow the flow of guests to enter the park before they really congested Main Street. Having the main shooting on Main street on Monday really helped with crowd control, though they needed to "pad" the audience at times, having folks move to one side of the street to get the "full" look the director wanted.



The main features were the USC Marching Band, with director Dr. Art Bartner. He has a long history with Disneyland, as he was the director of the Disneyland All American Marching Band for 28 years each summer until he retired from Disney in 2005.

Disneyland will be busy all weekend, but especially Friday and Saturday night for Halloween Time. Disney's California Adventure Park will close at 6 PM on BOTH Friday and Saturday night to host the last Mickey's Trick or Treat special events. Disney has found that that the 6 to 7 PM hour is extremely busy at the Disneyland entrance turnstiles, even having to close down the turnstiles due to the large volume of folks.

Disney has done a few things, such as blocking out the Cast Member passes and now moving the Celebrate! - a Street Party event. The Un-Parade will be offered at 2:30 and 4:30 PM instead of the normal 3:30 and 6:30 PM times. Having the last un-parade at 4:30 has Main Street clear shortly after 5 PM, before the masses show up. The 6:30 PM showing, drew crowds on Main Street and the Hub from about 6-7pm. Because so many guests were entering Disneyland at the same time, it created a large traffic jam.

But even with the Celebrate! event being held early, there will still be large crowds at the Hub and on Main Street to see the last weekend of Halloween Screams Fireworks show. One option is to watch them after the 9 PM Fantasmic!, as Disney has added projectors and is showing images in the ROA that are similar to what you can see on the Castle.

FYI, Disney will offer Remember! fireworks for the weekend of November 6th as a one week special before the Christmas version starts on November 13th.

The crowds keep coming to the parks, and parking is still a major issue, and it doesn't look like the next few months will be much better.

One main point, the former entrance to the Timon Parking Lot on Harbor Blvd at Disney Way has been closed most of the time lately. In fact, Disney has been even reversing the roadway, and having vehicles go east bound on the roadway at the south end of DCA.

Disney has been regularly using Pumbaa, Anaheim GardenWalk, the Anaheim Convention Center and even Buzz Lightyear and Pongo on a regular basis on weekends lately.

If you are coming to Disneyland using the I-5 Northbound, your best bet is to get off at Disney Way (Katella Ave) and just follow the signage/Anaheim PD directions as to where to go. Disney will honor AP Parking Passes at any of the lots that are open.

Also, Disney does provide transportation from all the lots. They use Coach America for the Pumbaa, Anaheim GardenWalk, Buzz Lightyear and Pongo Parking lots. You will find the White Buses and Red Trolleys near the CM Bus Stop in the Lion King Tram area. Make sure and verify where the bus is going before boarding so you get back to your car.

If Disney is using the Anaheim Convention Center, then they will run the Lion King Trams to the Pedestrian entrance on Katella Avenue, and then you just have to cross Katella Avenue to access your car.

The other main lot other than the Parking Structure is Simba, next to the Paradise Pier Hotel. This is the lot that is usually the worst choice, as there is no tram/bus service. You are expected to walk through Downtown Disney to get to the parks.

As for the Parking Structure, it has been getting so full that they have closed down the entrances in the afternoon and are diverting cars to other lots. The hints here are to get to the parks as early as you can, and if you show up later in the day, be prepared to find the structure closed and then follow the signs to the alternative lot(s), more than likely either the Anaheim Convention Center or Buzz Lightyear.

Don't forget, you can help out by carpooling or using public transportation. And for those staying in the nearby hotels, leave the car at the Hotel/Motel and either walk or use the ART Shuttles.

Disney has quietly installed an Automated Stroller Kiosk at the DCA Rental location as a test. When the new Stroller Rental center opens up in the next few months in the Main Entrance Plaza as a replacement to the 2 current main locations in the parks, Disney hopes to have a few of these stations available to help out with crowds if the tests go well.

The Magic Shop, now run by an outside vendor, Houdini's Magic Shop, reopened on Wednesday.

Knott's Scary Farm has added one extra night to its schedule, this Sunday, November 1st. And the price is right, just $24.99 if you purchase online in advance. (And if you are a Knott's Annual Passholder or a resident of Buena Park, you can get in for just $19.99 this Sunday).

Also don't forget, if you are looking for something for your kids to do on Saturday. Knott's is offering its kid friendly Camp Spooky on Halloween during regular park hours. (Included in the cost of regular park admission).

This is tough to write about, I am getting married at Knott's on January 9th, but some of the recent decisions are just "strange".

What the HECK???? When I went to Cedar Point a few years ago, we decided to not ride Demon Drop as it was a "repeat" of a similar ride at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

While I am happy that they are removing an "up-charge" ride (Screamin' Swing was a great ride) for a "free" ride, this is just screaming "Cheap".

Now, I understand that Knott's (and every other SoCal park) wants to focus on 2012 and will try and compete with the new Cars Land at DCA, and that is the main focus in Marketing. So we should see some major new additions in the SoCal area.

And we have some MAJOR changes in the Knott's Winter Promos...

Knott's Mobile

First off, the Orange County Health and Welfare employees will not get a free admission this year. In past years, they were included with the Fire and Police promotion.

And the very popular Toys for Tots promo has been changed. Now you MUST buy your toy at Knott's ($15 or more) for a free admission. If you bring in a toy from outside the park, you will be given a coupon that allows you to enter for $15. So that is a $15 or more for the toy, and then an extra $15 to enter the park if you buy something outside the park.

I know that a large segment were "cheap" and brought toys that were less than $15 and got into the park. But I truly hope that Knott's doesn't sell "cheap" toys for $15, and instead sell some "serious" toys that will make kids happy, and not just some stuffed animals.

For some reason, Six Flags Magic Mountain is NOT part of this event????
