Hong Kong Winter Lights; Magic Kingdom Christmas Parade; Grand Canyon Expedition

I hope everyone had a wonderful day off and that you were able to celebrate the day with family and friends. We have some additional Christmas cheer for the Update this week as we visit Hong Kong Disneyland and the Magic Kingdom with hkdlfan and SummerInFL. Then we're off to the Grand Canyon with MiceChatter Expedition Evan who shares photos of his recent family trip to the big hole in the ground. Finally, we end 2009 with some vintage Christmas card images from the turn of the last century.
I want to thank each and every one of you who take the time to read the Weekend Update. We have had as many as 10,000 readers in a week visit our eclectic attempt to entertain and inspire, and for that I am humbled and grateful. I especially want to thank Al Lutz and Dustysage for giving me the opportunity and encouragement to give my own spin to this space each week. Thanks. - Rixter

We attempted a hike to the bottom, but soon realized that we were not quite adventurous enough for something like that

The sunset was absolutely beautiful!

The el Tovar again

We woke up bright and early the next morning to see the sunrise. It was definitely worth it!!

What? Everyone still celebrating?
Thanks for all your hard work this year, peeps! I really liked the HKDL vids and the Christmas cards and the Grand Canyon and the MK parade and...well, I guess that's it this week. But it is appreciated!Posted 12-26-2009 at 01:13 AM by Marko50

I loved the photographs of the Grand Canyon. It's best days are during the winter, and your photos reminded me of a vacation I had there myself, when we got lucky, and saw the park at its best.Posted 12-26-2009 at 04:13 PM by whamo

Great update!
As for the Grand Canyon, do NOT EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES try to hike down to the bottom without being prepared, ESPECIALLY down the South Kiabab trail. That trail has no water and very limited shade. As long as you are fit and bring ample water supply (and not just a water bottle - you'll need waaaay more then that) you should be fine. You need a lot of preparation before hand if you want to hike to the bottom.Posted 12-27-2009 at 07:47 PM by BANANAZ
