Home of the Future, Fair of the Past. Welcome to the Weekend Update for June 28th.

It's county fair time in many parts of the country, and MickeyMaxx takes us on a photo tour of one of the largest county fairs in California. Before we get to that though, special guest photographer PEZZ Lightyear shares a sneak peek at the Innoventions Dream Home at Disneyland, staffer SummerInFL continues to show us her perspective on the west coast parks, plus a "walk around the world" with nbodyhome.
This week we'll start on the West Coast:

Anaheim, California
MiceChatter PEZZ Lightyear attended an early morning Annual Passholder sneak preview of the new Innoventions Dream Home in Tomorrowland at Disneyland and shares these photos with us.

San Diego County Fair
Del Mar Fairgrounds, Del Mar, California
MiceChatter MickeyMaxx and your editor, Rixter, made a trip to the San Diego County Fair this week. A trip to the fair had been one of our annual rituals, but our busy schedule has prevented a pilgrimage to the fair for about five years. Many of our old favorites can still be found at the fair: the photographic exhibit and competition; the home and garden exhibits; the huge halls filled with hucksters selling waterless cookware, eversharp knives and hyper-absorbent sponge cloths; the fun zone. The one thing that has changed significantly is the food offerings. The fair has always been known for the offbeat food that is served, but the booths from which the food is sold are bigger, louder and crazier than I remember them from a few years ago.
Herewith is MickeyMaxx's photographic tour of the San Diego County Fair.

The queue to enter is as long as any seen at a theme park! What's the hang-up?

Oh, I see...metal detectors!

Summer of Sports is this year's theme.

The San Diego County Fair is a county fair held every summer at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar, California. The fair is a major draw for San Diego County residents; in recent years, attendance figures have risen above a million annually, reaching a record all-time attendance of 1,265,997 in 2007. The fair began in 1880 as an agricultural fair. The location moved from place to place for several years until finally settling on the Del Mar Fairgrounds in 1936. In 1954, the fair's name changed to the Southern California Exposition and San Diego County Fair. In 1970, this was shortened to the Southern California Exposition. The fair was again renamed in 1984 to the Del Mar Fair. Food also is a feature of the fair, with more than 100 food booths. There are many fair classics as well as other interesting delicacies for people to try, including beef sundaes, fried Twinkies, and apple fries. Something new is added every year, such as fried cola in 2007.*
The San Diego County Fair continues daily through July 4th. The official website can be found HERE.

I just got home after 3 days in the park. The "Home of the Future" should open MONDAY according to the DISNEY STAFF scheduled to work that day. I saw the guys working on it, noticed a "digital book" on a table. I saw the new Indiana Jones play, melodramatic. The fun is actually outside, as Jones and a pirate chases Jones and fights. Jones talked to my wife as he ran by. I loved the new talking potato head. One lady, at the potato head shopin CA, was loading up on potato head add-ons, without the potato. She said you can get them cheaper at Target. The line was so long for Toy Story ride I took a pass, all 3 days. BIG TIP! If you like music, check out the ALL AMERICAN BAND, check the daily schdedule for times and venues, as they move around. They play big band jazz. The piano and horn section excel. The "special guest" showboated, but also had some good riffs. At the end of the last day, we saw WALL-E, the movie. First act is good, first sequence, second act drags, but the third act is good. I don't think it will be a big hit, but it should do okay.Posted 06-28-2008 at 05:05 AM by whamo

I loved the Fair Pictures. I think I put on 10 pounds just looking at all that fried food stuff. And speaking of.. my favorite picture is the one of the food stand named "STUFFIES" with big rainbow unbrellas out front. Made me miss hanging out with the Micechatters at WDW during Gay Days...
