TDLFAN takes us on a quick walk around jolly olde LONDON town.. in the United Kingdom.
London, England
TDLFAN went to pay a visit to Queen Elizabeth 2 but she was out of town. This is the Queen's London home: Buckingham Palace. The palace has grand staterooms, magnificent paintings and beautiful gardens...

The gate to Buckingham Palace is quite ornate.

The Palace again...

Look up! That's the famous balcony where Prince Charles and Princess Diana kissed as the world watched on television.

This Royal Guard looked a bit crooked.

Fountain in front of Buckingham Palace.

Statue in front of Buckingham Palace.

The Palace's Gardens... very pretty.

The Mall. Many will remember this as the route taken by the Royal Family during many ocasions such as weddings, celebrations or even funeral marches as was the case when Diana died.

Nowadays the Mall is adorned with the UK flag and the London Summer Olympics 2012 flags as well.

The Mall starts at Buckingham Palace and ends here at the Admiralty Arch.

Nearby...The Houses of Parliament. Officially known as the 'Palace of Westminster', they comprise of the House of Commons, The House of Lords, Westminster Hall and one of the most famous icons in London.. BIG BEN, a clock tower with a 13-ton bell.

Nearby... TDLFAN ran into this impostor!!!

Across the River Thames from Big Ben is the British Airways' LONDON EYE ferris wheel.

Riders in one of the London Eye's spacious cabins.

Reaching the top of London Eye the view is awesome.

Going across the Westmister Bridge we get an up close view of Big Ben and London Eye in the background.

Westminster Abbey, where every English Monarch since William the Conqueror has been crowned (and also buried here too!) It is quite an impressive church! This is also where many royal weddings of the modern times have taken place.

Trafalgar Square is considered an icon in London and is famous for Nelson's Column, the ornate fountains and huge stone lions.

Finally, one quick stop at Picadilly Circus, a hip section of London where many shopping and dinning options can be found side by side with some of the city's finests hotels like the Ritz and others. The first ever Hard Rock Cafe is also found nearby...

And this concludes our quick tour of London town. Cheers!

Ian Parkinson brings us part two of his Adriatic Adventure. Welcome to Málaga!
Málaga, Spain
Málaga is a port city in Andalusia, southern Spain, on the Costa del Sol coast of the Mediterranean. The city is a tourist destination, due mainly to its proximity to the Costa del Sol. Tourists also visit here to see the birthplace of Pablo Picasso. From Málaga, other cities like Sevilla, Córdoba, Granada, and Jaén can be reached by train, bus or car.
A popular walk leads up the hill to the Gibralfaro castle (a Parador), offering views over the city. The castle is next to the Alcazaba, which in turn is next to the inner city of Málaga. A walk takes the Paseo del Parque (a promenade that runs alongside a park with many palm trees and statue) to the harbour, finishing in Calle Larios the main commercial street of the city.*

Your comment intrigued me, so I did a little research. Turns out fresco is a painting technique, which doesn't really seem to fit in this case. According to Wikipedia, "Fresco (plural either frescos or frescoes) is any of several related painting types, done on plaster on walls or ceilings."Quote:Those aren't murals on the bridges. They're frescoes.
Of course, as has been pointed out, mural doesn't really seem to fit either. Again from Wikipedia: "A mural is a painting on a wall, ceiling, or other large permanent surface."
Perhaps someone who has more knowledge on the subject can add to the discussion.Posted 09-14-2008 at 03:02 PM by Rixter

Just a clarification: "Queen Elizabeth 2" is the ocean liner, while "Queen Elizabeth II" is the sovereign.Quote:TDLFAN went to pay a visit to Queen Elizabeth 2 but she was out of town.
