Leavin' on a Jet Plane. Weekend Update for October 11, 2008.

As you read this on Saturday morning I will be on a plane hurtling toward my second favorite place in the world: Walt Disney World. What makes this trip even more special is the fact that I will be spending much of my time with my MiceChat peeps. This will be the third MiceChat Orlando Invasion and I'm proud to say that I have attended all three of them.
Our Update today takes us to Disney parks on both coasts, we get a sneak peek at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights, we have the second part of our sightseeing trip to Venice, and we have our final installment of our trip to Argentina.
Remember, if you are lucky enough to be in the Orlando area next weekend, don't hesitate to join us for any of the MiceChat events. Day by day information on the meets can be found here.

Mark Gonzalez takes us on a photo tour of the architecturally rich but attraction poor Mickey's Toontown in Disneyland.
Mickey's Toontown
Disneyland

Mickey's Toontown is one of the "themed lands" at the Disneyland park. At Tokyo Disneyland, this area is named Toontown. A similar area at the Magic Kingdom is named Mickey's Toontown Fair. Mickey's Toontown opened in Disneyland on January 24, 1993. The area is themed on the Toontown seen in the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and resembles a set from a Max Fleischer cartoon. The buildings are stylized and colorful. There are several attractions involving classic cartoon characters, such as the 'houses' of Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and a small kiddie coaster. There are a few interactive gags. Compared to other Disneyland areas however, there are few large or technically complex rides or shows, and the houses themselves appeal primarily as playhouses for small children.*

This past Saturday, I visited the Adventurers Club with the NFFC. Disney had honored contracts past the closing date, and it was wonderful to get one more chance to enjoy the Club.

The Mask Room and Treasure Room both hosted shows, but nothing went on in the library. This did allow for more character interaction among guests.

Veteran Disney animator and NFFC Legend Joe Hale:

Here I am with Pamilia Perkins and Hathaway Brown:

The cast got together so we could take photos and thank them for all the years of entertainment they've provided:

A tribute to Frank Wells:

It was a very emotional evening, and I hope the Adventurers Club returns again someday.

Come face to face with your deepest fears as Bloody Mary brings history's most terrifying urban legends to life at Universal's Halloween Horror Nights. Trapped inside or on the streets, there's nowhere you're safe. It's the most immersive horror experience ever, with more Scare Zones than ever before, more Scareactors, and the most Haunted Houses ever.

We finish our tour of Argentina with a sidetrip to Rosario, Argentina, compliments of MiceChat reader Marcia G.
Rosario
Argentina
Rosario is the largest city in the province of Santa Fe, Argentina. It is located 187 miles northwest of Buenos Aires, on the western shore of the Paraná River. It retains the classical and ancient architecture in some residences, houses and public buildings. It is the third largest city in Argentina in terms of area and population.*
View of the city, taken from a boat on the Parana River.

The city

These are all from El Centro, the "downtown" area.

A very old church downtown

A very creepy and deserted carousel (it was very rainy/stormy that day)

Street dog (Sadly, dogs like this are seen everywhere around the city)

The monument to the flag.

Views from the top.

Nice update, I'm going to disagree slightly with your assessment of Mickey's Toontown. From the beginning it was meant to cater to the younger set, because DL simply didn't have a lot for this age group. TT fills the bill with a lot of style thrown in. Yes it would be nice if it had a bigger attraction, maybe one that pays tribute to all the Disney classics - think of Mickey Mouse revue as a Great Movie Ride type ride-through. Also, the pics of Venice - thanks for including some shots of the souvenir shops, that's something we tourists always go to, it kind of completes our 'virtual' tour!Posted 10-11-2008 at 11:07 AM by Disneykin Kid
