I seriously know next to nothing about these books.
Warning Spoiler alert!

She ends up marrying Edward, having a half vampire baby, becoming a vampire and basically saving her family / coven from destruction.

It's a total Mary Sue, and once you read the whole series you can tell Meyer's wrote herself as Bella... especially as a vampire. It ends up too cheekily perfect. Everyone winds up happily ever after, except Leah.

nope 19 and the last book was awful. It was liek the author just wanted to end the series...so Bella gets, the perfect family, money and everything she wants and they live happily ever after ion the fairytale cottage in the woods...

out of curiosity..what came first, the vampire diaries or twilight, because one author seems to have gotten a lot of ideas from the other.

Dude in "Midnight Sun" I was freaked out. Like the books you kinda' felt he was creepy. And with my bookmark it was clear, but then "Midnight Sun" he was going to the hardware store to fix a window so he could watch her sleep. No offense, if anyone did this to me there'd be a restraining order, not a four or five book series.

I thought that about him through the whole series, he was stifling and obsessive. Although, you and I have had the Team Jacob talk

I think it depends on the child, like most parenting decisions. If I had girls I'm sure I'd be fine with them reading the series in jr high/high school. But, I just have boys and they think Twilight is lame I defintely read a lot worse in jr high and they're actually relatively tame compared to books I was reading at that age. Plus, you can use Bella's character as a "What Not To Do" guide in talking with your daughter

Also, about the 9 year old with the Twilight backpack, she may not have even read the books, maybe she has older siblings who have and like it because of that, who knows.

It would seem Ms Myers may have read the vampire diaries....they are very similar with just a few differences. I think she had her dream about the field after reading the other authors book...JMO though.

yeah, the window thing was a bit much...

If I had kids I wouldn't let them read it, not because of the content but because of how horrible the writing is!

Re: New moon and your daughter

I am a 5th grade teacher and if parents ask me if the series is appropriate for their kids I tell them no. I personally think that Bella is a poor role model for young girls out there. I hear so many of my female students talk about how they are in love with Edward and I just shudder to think of the path that this may lead to.

A good girl falls in love with a bad boy. He causes her enormous amounts of physical and emotional pain but she sticks by him. In the end, she gives up pretty much everything to be with him. This is just not a healthy relationship to aspire to.
