Cool The Canoe Races Thread - 2009 Edition

I hope some great Canoe Races discussion can go here. I'll start!

How do ya round up a team? Anyone I've asked in Tomorrowland say it's too early for them so no go there. Anyone here doing it? I wanna do it this year but it's not looking good so far.

You might as well give up before you start. You can't beat us anyway.

You on a DC team? I'd just like to point out that the Entertainment Co-ed team beat out both DC teams for first, and and our all male team too third over a DC team... and we didn't even start taking it seriously until we were in the finales.

I'd also like to say that it was rather annoying how they kept showing the sprinter teams over the Timed teams. It seems like it's better just go slow in order to make it to the sprint races, which seems to be held in higher esteem.

Keep trying, Ashley. My fondest memories of working at Disneyland was the time spent with my canoe team.

Yikes! Is it really this competitive? I just wanted to have fun. I am not a very competitive person.

I probably won't find a team anyway. Poo!

Those DC people, the funny thing is that both our Entertainment teams didn't practice outside of the ROA... and we got a first and third place...

Re: The Canoe Races Thread - 2009 Edition

Steering clinics were this week, just got back.

I was on a DC team 2 years ago, but opted for sleep every Friday morning rather than practice, so I'm just on the GR team this year. We're called "Backdoor" this time around, hehe. We were alright for only having 4 people in the boat who had ever paddled before. The DC teams looked good. I was sad that we aren't rowing on the same day as Lost Banana Tribe again - we had fun heckling each other last time around.

We'll be making another run at a medal this year, powered through the first run, and died during the second. Good times, two boats have already stuck the island...

I've got Traditions tomorrow so I'm guessing I won't be able to take part seeing how it's so late in the training season? However if anyone is looking for a competitive (but kind) person who won't weigh the canoe down too much let me know.

I think you need to working an average of 20 hours in order to join a team (not 100%, though I almost wasn't allowed on my team last year due to hours). I'm not sure how many weeks they count.

This is one of those things I've found funny since I transferred. No one here at WDW (or at least in my area) has ever heard of Canoe Races (referred to here as "CROW" - Canoe Races of the World).

I tried to round up a team to participate this year, and spent more time explaining to people what it was and how I was sure it wasn't a DL-only thing than I did actually recruitng people.

How WDW Cast Activities gets enough people to hold it year after year befuddles me.

That's why we kick their butts every year at the Disney Resort Race.
