    Banished from the Magic Kingdom?

I know most of you are current cast members, but this is more directed towards ex cast members. As my screen name implies, I am an ex Jungle Cruise skipper. I worked there in the spring of 1995, during the Indiana Jones Adventure opening. I was terminated from my role because of a boating accident in which I bumped into the boat ahead of me on accident and the skipper in the boat that I hit filed a grievance and made a huge deal about it and because I was just a day shy of my 90 day probation I was fired. And to add insult to injury, they slapped a non-rehire status on my file so the following year when I tried to reapply they said I had the non-rehire status and would need to file an "appeal" to get it lifted before I could be rehired. Well I appealed it for nearly ten years, with no success. The last time I made my appeal I managed to allow them to let me view my file. What I saw made me really upset. According to the accident report made by the skipper that I bumped, I "intentionaly rammed my vessel into his with the intent of causing physical harm to himself and to the guests on his boat" and there were all these pictures about the "damage" I caused to the boat and witness testimony. What really got me was that I was never shown any of this. I was never given an opportunity to respond to the report or anything. I was just suspended for three days and upon my return I was told to clean up my locker and leave the property.

Has anyone else out there been banished from the magic kingdom or know anyone who has? Did they ever try to appeal their non-rehire status? Were they successfull?

Now did casting tell you exactly that your fil said "no- rehire" status or restricted rehire?
Now this had never happened to me but when i was with the company i had my fair share of co-workers try to ge me fired for extremely stupid reasons.
Though there were some people that i used to know who got fired and was escorted off property by Disney security and was arrested by orange county following. And from what i have heard. they are fighting to get there jobs back.
You know i figured after 10 years they would have been a little more forgiving. I hear all the time how Disney is so desperate for people, so it's like Disney purposely puts themselves int hat position don't you think?

Considering my record with Disney before the accident it was a huge slap in the face to receive a non rehire status, I was a completely dedicated cast member. ALWAYS volunteered for overtime.ALWAYS came in early when they called me, even after only getting a few hours of sleep. Received several guest compliments at City Hall. ALWAYS was on time, never tardy.

try finding a cast member today that has that kind of dedication.

I would guess that they are making such a big deal about the "no rehire" because (in Disney's eyes at least) it's a safety issue. Damage was caused to a boat, people could have been hurt.... Some say it was on purpose....

I can understand where Disney is coming from. There's a 28 year old guy (at least..maybe older), who has been trying for 10 years to get a $8.20/hr job, who has a report that he tried to hurt a CM and guests.

Can you blame DL for not taking a risk and rehiring you? Would you hire somebody with that report? If they did hire you and IF you went postal (not saying you would, just saying "IF") Disney would face huge lawsuits because of your record.

Maybe it's time to put your time as a CM in your past and move on to different jobs....

oh it is way in my past. Honestly, even if they called me up today and offered me my old job back I would turn it down. My g/f worked there recently and she only toughed it out for about a month before she quit, Things have changed at the park and not for the better.

The whole experience was a huge wake up call early in life. Just because a company like Disney portrays itself as this "wholesome, caring and family friendly" doesn't mean it really is. It's just a facade. The whole place is fake. Disneyland lost it's magic a long, long time ago.

I hope you don't rehire into the park. You'd be just like everyone else who works there now. Jaded, cynical, and compassionless. There's nothing about the park in its current state which you love, so there'd be no reason for you to work there, I think.

Am I not making this clear enough? I would NOT go back to working at Disneyland. This means that I would NOT go back to working at Disneyland. Whic means employment with Disneyland is not gonna happen.

By the way.....why don't you put yourself in my position and see if you still feel the same way. Try getting fired unfairly after devoting yourself to the park and then get slapped with a non rehire status. Think you'll still be smiling and happy?

Having read many of your previous posts and especially the gloating one about your GF sneaking you backstage for dinner at the InnBetween, I get the feeling that you are more tied to DL than you care to admit and enjoy infiltrating the backstage area with an attitude.

If ramming another boat was indeed an accident, there still remains an odor of perhaps a little mischief that lingers on. Perhaps it might have been intended as an added bit of realism that backfired?

There's something that isn't being revealed here and Disney is probably right in not wanting to rehire you.

I notice your GF had a very short stay in the park also. Care to elaborate about what lead to her departure?

Re: Banished from the Magic Kingdom?

She left for a couple of reasons. First, and most importantly, she got another job offer which paid $4.00 more per hour than what she was making at Disneyland. Secondly, she was tired of the commute. The new job is a short ten minute walk from our place and we don't need to use the car and spend money on gas. Lastly, she didn't care for the new system they started using in which a computer would issue your break times. Half the time the computer would schedule her for her first break almost 4 hours after she started while others were going on their breaks much sooner and they would all start at the same time. There were even times that the system wasn't issuing her any breaks and she would have to try and find a manager to get it resolved , not an easy task in a busy store like World of Disney.

Now as for my accident. It was not a deliberate bump and thats literaly all it was. We were at the unloading dock and my boat was slowly, very slowly drifting towards his boat. I didn't "ram" his boat. There was nothing that was done on purpose. The problem was that this guy who made a big stink about it had been there for years and he was sore that I got hired on at 6.78, which was the first time Disneyland started hiring in people at CR statusHe, on the other hand, was hired on as CT at the beginning and recently was promoted to CR so he was sore at the new hires that were making what he was making. That's my theory anyway.

But like I said, my incident happens on the Jungle Cruise all the time. Ask and skipper and he/she will tell you that boats will bump. It's what happens with boats. We can't stop them on a dime. We can't keep the perfectly still. That's the nature of a boat.

Honest question...it was ten years ago...why are you still even thinking about it?

I was merely wondering if any other former CM had been fired unfairly or if they knew of anyone who had. I don't know why you guys are all ganging up on me for simply seeking other people with similar stories.
