So after flipping threw the Pennysaver I came across one of many disneyland's job pleas. It stated in bold "3rd shift custodial. Shifts starting between 9pm and 12am. Paying rates starting at 10 dollars an hour" with that being said it peaked my interest to go ahead and apply for the 3rd time. (being turned away twice before)
So my journey began with heading to the casting center and diving into the long application routine. I stepped in and was greeted with the usual "state your business, how did you hear we were hiring" spiel from HR and they pointed me to a row of computers and I turned and said "They finally switched to computer applications awesome!" so I filled out my application and took a seat and watched a few episodes of the CM tv show. They had a feature on the "little mermaid, the ride that never was" with I thought was pretty neat yet said that it was never approved.
Then HR called me back up and asked if I had a few hours to spare to go ahead with the interview. I of course obliged and took a seat again. Oh look a bugs life is on. An hour later me and about hmm 6 other people were called into watch the company history/diseny look movie. Then she asked us to follow her to another room filled with computers to take a test. "What a breeze what else you got?" after the test was over we were asked to sit on the couches that lines the wall and we're if we had time for the interview. A few people left but most stayed. "Aww poor Flick brought circus bugs and not the rough tough bugs he thought they were."
So another hour rolls by and this nice and cheerful woman comes out and askes for me and a female and we follow her to her office and proceed witht he actual interview. Being in this chair twice already I had all my responses planned out, that doesn't help the fact that I was nervous. Anyways she asked me questions then would ask my "opponent" the same and she would just reiterate what I already said but after that she thanked us to take a seat outside while she reviewed her notes. "Our teacher said it would be more dramatic if one of you died =]"
She popped back out and called in the girl and a few minutes later she left with a slip of red paper. The interviewer then called me in. Expecting to be turned away again I cleared my mind and hoped for the best. She thanked me for my time and said "your interview went really well and I'd like to offer you the position if that's ok with you?" I said "It sure would be!" she then handed me a little stack of papers going over the disney look and all that fun jazz. Then said the 3rd shift likes to meet with they canidates before your hired or not..at 2am. "Is this ok with you?" I said yes I don't have any problems with that" (I'm usually literally down the street at a hookah bar till 1am anyways) she said "that's great! I know they'll like you and would should have nothing to worry about" and slid me a red paper that had a map and said to be put on the dash of you car while parked in the 15 minute parking lot. She shook my had and said "I don't want to speek to soon but welcome aboard" I said thank you very much and was on my mary way.
So a few (slooooow) days later I headed down to disneyland and parked where the little bossy piece of paper told me to. And headed over to the "California" sign 20 minutes over and was greeted by a group of 15 people. We chatted for awhile and a gentlemen came out asking for 7 people and said "you all will be heading with me to DCA" (I quietly sighed with relief because I pictured myself working at Disneyland Resort) and a few minutes later a woman named Anna came out a greeted the rest of us and said her boss has jury duty and she'd be interviewing us for the night. She took us down and showed us the Cast Member shuttle and explained where (apon hired) we would park our cars. Then we went through the security check point and checked it then received neat little sticker/name tags and proceeded into the behind the scenes.
Our first stop was Pizza Port, we saw and inspected the kitchen. She explained what areas ("apon hire" ahh stop teasing us with that") we would be cleaning. Then we went into the acutally pizza port resturant and saw more or what we had to clean. (All while she was telling us little stories mind you) we exited Pizza Port and stepped into tomorrowland..
Bright lights, little golf carts zooming by, very active even at 2am. She pointed towards the subs (a few of the walls where taking down and there were a few trucks sticking out. We didn't get close enough to see inside but it was close enough. She then took us to Star Tours and talked about scraping up gum. She then mentioned a few parks that didn't scrape up gum off the floors and queue lines..I don't think I need to mention any names. But it was really weird and kinda freaky to see all the animatronics live and kicking with no audio. We went through the line and got to board one of the ships. The very first one on the right had a sign on the outside said "down for testing" we went inside that one and all the cusions for the backrests were removed for some reason. But anyways she showed us the equipment used to clean that attraction. A jet pack looking vaccuum which looks pretty cool if you ask me. We came back down to earth, a few "cast member only" doors and we were on main street..
Beautiful. Simply put, all the lights and the huge christmas tre..which you could smell 10 feet away. She took us in the candy shop for more cleaning examples and she introduced us to a CM who was busy sweeping and he explained how he loved working here and what his routine consists of in the candy shop. It got a lot of people excitied to be apart of that shift. I know I was.
After that we headed to good ol' Abraham Lincoln (he's still not back yet?!) and we got some history on walt and his wonderful visions on the park. All I can say is Mr. Disney is a man that knew what he wanted. Tour is over. We made our way to an office and she proceeded to interview us. We all went around and explained a little bit about ourselves and our reason for applying. A lot of people we're brought in for the 10 dollars. Me and an older female just wanted to the chance to experience working for The Mouse..the money 10 an hour was just a bonus. She then said it was a pleasure meeting us and escorted us to the gate. She said thanked us, wished us luck and said we should reieve a call within 48 hours. We returned our sticker badges and headed our seprate ways.
Sure enough 48 hours later I got a call..except I was a sleep I checked my messages and heard a woman from the Disneyland Recuiting Center wanted to talk to me in regards to my application of 3rd shift custodial. I was bummed because I looked at my clock and it was 5:36 and I figured she off the clock already. So I called back and left her a message anyway. About 30 minutes later she called me back and said she would like to extent an offer to me and asked if I was still interested. I said yes of course! And she said great and said to come down on tuesday to do all my paper work and training would be on friday. "Congratulations welcome aboard!" she said. I couldn't help but laugh and say thank you thank you and say how excited I was. She congratulated me again and wished me a goodnight and I told the same and that was it!
Now for you that survived my boring story I thank you =]
Any tips and what I should expect on friday? Well thanks for reading! And any tips at all would be great!
