    Question Out of the Loop

I was in entertainment about 10 years ago... I really really really want to be rehired again but I'm not sure if they will. Still I'm reading some posts that make me question how they do things at the Magic Kingdom now. When I was hired I was hired for Spectro but I did everything from sets in Toontown to the Mickey Mania parade to the Easter parade to Escorting characters. Can you still do a little of everything or no?

I'm sooooo worried that at my interview they will tell me I can't be rehired because when I left I wanted to change from Full Time to Seasonal and I was supposed to get in contact with a certain person. Which I tried many many times from calling to going to his office but never got a hold of them. I let them know that in the meantime I had found a job close to my home and would not be able to make my schedule once the schedule I was working was up. They put me on the schedule anyway. So I got no call no shows and I still tried to get a hold of that guy with no luck. Anyway... I got my Voluntary Termination letter in the mail a few weeks later and then some guy called my house but my mom wrote the number down wrong and I don't even know what he wanted.

Do you think because of the length of time I have a chance? I'm willing to take a big pay cut to go back because it was the one place I was truly truly happy and I wish I had never left.

Also, if I do go back how many crazy changes have there been?

My interview is next Saturday... just knowing that... I can't sleep.

Please let me know if it sounds like I have any chance at all.

I would guess that if you have been working for these past 10 years and have a good work history, that would help you out in getting re-hired. At least at DL, they say that one has to have some good work history at other places to get re-hired at DL.

    Good luck

    Re: Out of the Loop

I didn't constantly work but it's because I had kids and was a stay at home mom for a while.... I think the shortest I stayed somewhere was right after I left Disney and I was only there 6 months but after that... I have had three jobs and a part time business I had started up to try and stay at home with the kids. The jobs were each 2 year stays and the current I just had my year anniversary. To some it's hopping around but to me I think it's alright. I had good reasons for leaving and have great references so I hope that helps too.

I don't think I've ever been so nervous about getting a job because this means so much to me. I still have dreams about working there and nightmares about leaving and have ever since I worked there as if it's my mind's way of dealing with regret. I just hope I can get across to them that they would be hiring back someone who truly would appreciate and love their job and I would be soooo grateful.

Hope I'm not coming off as cheesy (no pun intended)

    I just need a DO-OVER! :-)

I don't even know if they would accept me as a character because I have put on a few pounds but I don't mind working elsewhere until I'm back in shape either. I have been walking 1-1.5 miles a day and I'm eating a strict diet all out of the motivation of going back. Hey atleast I'm getting healthy right?!?!

I wonder what the weight requirements for Mickey height are... Does anyone know?

    Re: Out of the Loop

    Thanks :-)

Well I changed my interview to tomorrow... I figured I could just get it over with and atleast know where to go from there. I'm so nervous I feel sick! I'm trying to just visualize tomorrow over and over with good outcome. I keep thinking what if I say something stupid or what if they will never accept me back but I don't WANT to think that way. I want to stay positive. Too bad the Easter Bunny can't put my old job back in my basket. HAHA...

I would appreciate hearing if anyone knows about weight for characters. I do remember when I worked there there was one pretty hefty girl for Mickey height but you know I don't know what she weighed or anything... Like I said though... I'm going to tell them that I would like to atleast work somewhere else and maybe transfer later on if I don't qualify weight wise now. Hey atleast I didn't grow though :-) Still 5'0"

Tomorrow at 2pm EST Aaahh so nervous.... now I'm racking my brain about what I should wear.

    Re: Out of the Loop

Well... I went today and they gave me some paperwork to do since I had the restricted rehire on my file. After all that... I get home and basically have been told by my husband that it doesn't pay enough and even though I made arrangements to where we would still be financially where we are at now.... so he says I can't work there. Since I can't "Guarantee" him that the future will be financially set basically I guess I well.... I just should have never left. Oh well....

Wow, I would never let someone else run my life (but that's just my opinion, and probably why I'm still single, lol). Although you do have kids now, so you should do what's best for them... and money is a big part of that to make sure they have a good future.

    Re: Out of the Loop

Yeah... we went to look at a house yesterday and he said no to that too and my 8 year old said "Mom, daddy doesn't rule your life ya know"

Well the good news is... I made it to where we wouldn't be any financially different than we are now, and now that my husband has seen that on paper he's ok with it. In fact I even found a way to where we could put money away in savings monthly and he REALLY liked that. I had to do a lot of presenting and explaining and budgeting but when you really want something you pursue it right?

I have my paperwork ready to go... including the letter proving my employment from my current job. I had a nice talk with my office manager today and she said if I ever leave there she will give me a great reference and she would completely understand why I would leave. She just asked that I don't leave her high and dry. I let Disney know already that I would like to give my job 2 weeks notice anyway.

I watched my old video of when I was in Spectro tonight... I loved that feeling when I got to be the first pod out the door and the lights turn off and the gate opens... it's such an exciting rush.

    Well I'm still hoping :-)

    Re: Out of the Loop

Not yet... I just turned in my paperwork yesterday. I not only filled in the rehire paperwork but I also wrote a letter and got two letters of recommendations. I know it wasn't required but I wanted to show them how badly I want the job. One from my current supervisor and one from my previous supervisor...

The bad part is I drive an hour to get there yesterday anxious to turn it in and realize that the white envelope I brought only had my letter and the rehire paper in it and NOT my proof of employment and recommendation letters. Those were in the OTHER white envelope. So I look like an idiot and have to ask for a fax number, use the pay phone (I haven't touched a payphone in years) and luckily have exactly one dollar in quarters and call my mom who is watching my kids and she offered to go to Office Depot and fax it for me. Well then to make matters even more embarrassing... the lady at the desk didn't seem to understand what I was asking. I told her I was checking on a fax that I had someone send and she then paged and called my casting agent to come out. I didn't want him to get called out... just for someone to look on the fax machine. But... he was super nice and hopefully he will understand that normally I have my head on straight. :-/

    Just not on Wednesdays... lol

He said they will get back to me within a week... A week of torment Yippee!

You might know a lot of the entertainment casting agents and management as they were mere peons like us back in the day! Break a leg!

Sad Re: Out of the Loop

Aaaaah! I still haven't heard anything!!! Is that a bad sign? He said within a week and I turned in my paperwork last Wednesday. I'm so frustrated. I want to quit my current job soooo bad but I can't til I find something else but I don't want to find something else and then hear from Disney, etc. I wonder why they haven't called me yet... I really hope they call me today My job yesterday did so many things that were absurd...They are making me do other people's work but I am not allowed to get billed for it but then they yell at me because I don't have enough billables. The one guy I work for... I had all these documents nice and neat in a protective folder and put in order and had the letter on top for him to sign... He wasn't doing anything and calls me to his office to take the letter out of the plastic folder. These are just two of the many many things so I REALLY hope they call me today. I couldn't have been THAT bad of an employee and it was TEN YEARS AGO already. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I'm sooooo frustrated.

    Re: Out of the Loop

Well, they did say a week and it's only what, 10:00 am.

I have also found that it always, always, take them longer then they say to call back. I wouldn't stress out too bad until Friday.

I know that's not what you wanted to hear. The waiting is the worst part.

    Good luck.

    Re: Out of the Loop

I asked my office manager who wrote my letter of recommendation if she had been called or anything and she said no. I wonder would it be bad if I called?? Probably so huh?? My husband suggested I call but I don't know about that. Don't want a situation where they are like "Hey let's hire this girl, no wait... she's a pain nevermind" lol

I think what makes matters worse is my old boss told me about an opening at my old newspaper job and I don't want to miss out on it if I'm a "no" at Disney. She always wants to rehire me but a lot of times the positions are all filled so she can't. I would hate to make her go through the trouble of rehiring me only for me to leave for Disney.

I appreciate you letting me know that they do take longer for call backs. That makes me feel a little better. But my stomach is still in knots and I have one heck of a headache!

Funny, I have other jobs wanting to rehire me but I don't know about the one job I actually want. Murphy's Law.
