Re: Bus Drivers being laid off

It's hardly normal wear and tear. Those busses run 24/7 and usually run full both ways. It's perfectly reasonable to expect them to be worn out after 5 years. They should have expected that.

Re: Bus Drivers being laid off

I'm thinking that if there are going to be new shuttles that they should go the route of public busses and go with hard plastic seats. No need for cushy high back seats for a 5 minute trip, plus they'll hold up a lot better. One of the reasons the backsides of the seats are all messed up is that people put their feet up on them. Given the nature of the usage (high volume, short duration trips), I think they would do better to make them more durable. Just think what would happen if they put upholstered seating in the parking lot trams.

    I think we need limos.

    After all, we are "Cast-Members"

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary... Impossible is nothing."

well, the shuttle serves its purpose. Gets you TO and FROM work Though i hate waiting for the shuttle to come...

Well, they will be changed on July 13th. I think its a friday too. :\

The drivers have all applied to the company taking over. Though i dont think they got any word from it. I really like some of the drivers.

The company taking over... is Disney, right? I thought Disney was going to take the shuttles over not another 3rd party.

I feel bad for the shuttle drivers... a majority of them are VERY nice. Having your job switch hands to another company (like what I'm going through now with Mosaic) isn't fun for anyone.

If it is not Disney, I would presume it would be Coach USA, they handle the ART system, the Disneyland Express Airport service, and the Grey Line Tour services. They are based a few blocks away, and already provide shuttles if Disney opens the Buzz Lightyear lot. So it sounds like Coach USA got the contract. The service can be a lot more flexible, as they can add more buses if needed.

That's what I was thinking as well, since Disney and CoachUSA have such a good relationship already established.

    I guess we shall see.

well, according to the driver, they said the new company is called "Empire Enterprise"

Googled it and couldnt really find anything. Anyone know? I googled it and it brought me to an amtrak page with the Dispatch # of that company.

    Hrmn. Strange.

Well, if we get new shuttles out of it, then so much the better.

supershuttle has no one to blame but themselves. If they gave us some good busses then there wouldnt be a problem. You know busses with **gasp* air conditioning or heater and seats with actual padding. The drivers are great but they cant blame disney for losing their jobs they can only blame their own supershuttle

I remember when they first opened the K-Lot back in '97. There was one driver who only had one arm, and as we were driving along, the dude was eating a sandwich. I'M NOT KIDDING!!!

I saw 2 regular cast bus, 1 Coach USA bus, and 2 empire bus.

I wonder if the OCTA strike is causing borrowing of drivers by independent bus companies or something else related.

Coach USA is training staff to run the routes. They take over Saturday.
The huge charter bus is a little overkill, though. However, with many companies running super-duty due to the strike, they go with what they have. I believe we are to recieve the busses that usually run on the Gray Line (the decorated ones, if you know what I'm talking about)
