    Hey - question for West Side attractions CMs

    So since I've never been in attractions, when my little brother said he wants to be a canoes CM, I didn't know which area actually staffs it. Help me/him! Also, if anyone here actually DOES the canoes, any input I could pass along to him would be awesome!

    Canoes, as well as all other rivercraft (Twain, Columbia, and Rafts) are in the Critter Country/New Orleans attractions department.

    I've heard that you have to be able to paddle by yourself around the River in under 15 minutes (I assume you get a steerer with you) as part of your assessment to get signed off on the attraction. I could be wrong on this, but that's what I've heard.

    It's in NOCC...
    It depends. A lot of times when you get an attraction you can see if there are canoe openings. Not a lot of new hires want it, especially in summer.

    That's not true. The main thing that you are judge on is your ability to steer. That is far more important to us than speed.

    So, how long do you wait before getting concerned when a canoe hasn't returned ?

    A normal trip is a little less than 10 minutes. I've been on a 23 minute trip once (foreign tourists that did not speak English or paddle).

    I don't know anyone who speaks 'paddle' but I suppose it could be a type of sign language ...

    Paddle language goes like this:
    Paddle= "Yes"
    Drag= "No"
    Clobber you in the head= "I don't like you."

    I'm pretty scrawny myself... so I can't imagine myself working the Canoes during the summer. Oh gawd... makes me all sweaty sitting at my computer just thinking about it. Ew.

    Yes, they are part of the same area. The 'lands' that we all know and love, and are designated on the maps, are not always how Disney internally breaks up their stuff.
    For Attractions: Critter Country, the Rivers of America, and New Orleans Square are part of the same area. Adventureland, Main Street, Frontierland, and the Disneyland Railroad are all part of another section. I'm fuzzier on East Side attractions but I believe that Fantasyland and ToonTown are one area, and Tomorrowland has its own area.
