    Character Questions

I want to know if anyone here is a costumed character,
or if anyone knows anyone who is.
We hear from other cast members but never these ones.
I was a teddy bear years ago ( when i was 19ish) and I know whats its like to be trapped in a hot costume with a million kids wanting to hug you. My costume had a fan in the head that helped keep things cooler. I used to wear hardly anything under it either.
At that point in my life my goal was to work at Disneyland as a Character. Hahahahahaha.
ok here is what I want to know.......
    ~Any funny Character Stories
~Any secrets of any kind about them
    ~Where ae they kept
    ~where do they come out
Just for the General person like moi
~Which Character would you wanna be if you could and I mean full costumed character not a princess or something easy like that
I can't wait to see your responses.
    Yes, it is fast....

    No, you can't drive IT.

    Drive it like it's stolen.

My friend is a Koda the bear over at DCA and he is saying its great on a cool day, He is also a wrestler and can take heat. But he has fun and he says its fun to be a character and likes to interact with kids .. he is perfect at the role. Busy as a Bear now.

I was a Special Projects coordinator in the Anaheim area and would request Mickey for ribbon cuttings, conventions, etc. I also worked with DL on numerous occasions and as a result, got to know several of the characters and the leads. They are a very close knit group and do not appear to mix with the other CMs.

One of my most memorable encounters was at the Anaheim Hilton & Towers across the street from the park. I was waiting at the top of the escalator to meet Mickey and his escort and show them to the dressing room I had waiting for them. We were hanging out before the ceremony and chatting about things happening in the park.

I mentioned Jim Henson's sudden death the day before and that the Disney Company had taken a full page ad in the LA Times. They hadn't seen it so I showed them the ad which was very simple. On a blank page there was Jim Henson's name in bold type and his birth/death dates below and at the very bottom of the page in the corner was the tiny image of Mickey Mouse in mourning and wiping a tear from his eye.

When the person playing Mickey saw it they were very touched and started to cry. Then, it was showtime, but I've often thought how deeply many of the CMs and especially the characters must feel towards their jobs and the image they project.

That said, Donald Duck once goosed me during a photo shoot. I knew the person inside very well which made it OK.

I was a penguin from Mary Poppins. This big woman scared me to death when she ran up to hug me.

    Sorry about that.

(That was not me. I just thought it would be funny to pretend....)
Anything listed on the park maps as an attraction is fair game for inclusion in the Rally.
I cannot confirm nor deny the inclusion of any attraction in the Rally.

Crap, I hope this wasn't the same "Koda" that ran up to me and hugged me to death. Granted I'm 6'4 250+. It was just odd...

After my previous post was already up I thought this might be of interest to you Snacks and some of the other MCs. In the mid '60s I met Paul Castle who was pretty much the one and only Mickey Mouse in the early days of characters in the park. Paul lived in Midway Trailer City which was about a mile away from the park. I frequently went to DL on a day off (admission was $3.50) or when friends or relatives came to visit and would run into him in costume.

Back then the appearances weren't so choreographed and escorts weren't needed. Mickey generally just wandered around and greeted the guests and I believe he pretty much stayed around Main Street and the Hub. In the winter when weekday guests were almost non existent, I would visit with Paul as Mickey and chat. At that time many of the characters communicated with guests but I believe Paul's voice was responsible for the gag order that later came from upstairs. Disney managers told me his gravel voice would often scare small children.

Being a little person, Paul had an interesting background. He once told me that he was an ice skater when he was younger and toured with Sonja Henie's Ice Show for a long time and I think I remember him saying he traveled with carnivals in his younger days.

I dont think characters were supposed to talk about their experiences... supposed to maintain the illusion that they are real...

    Re: Character Questions

    Okay here is another question.

Does someone make decisions on what characters are to appear in what parks each day?

Because I know that you guys do use all of the character costumes at least once each day. Or do you?

What an ignorant and untrue thing to say.
