Leaving the company

Hi guys-I have a question...

So, I highly underestimated the effect of the commute & gas prices and I'm thinking I need to turn in my notice. However, I've only been working for a little over a month. Am I "shooting myself in the foot" by turning in my 2 weeks before I even reach the 60-day mark? I don't want to ruin my chances to be rehired if I one day move closer and want to work at DL again. (I tried looking on the Hub under "Leaving the Company", but the link isn't working.)

It's just not financially reasonable to keep spending over 25% (and climbing) of my paycheck on gas, ya know?

If you have any experience or know anything about the policies regarding this, I'd love to hear it!

I did exactly what you are thinking of doing PC. I had to leave after about 30 days due to commute/gas price issues. I am not prohibited from being rehired.

Thank you so much PrincessY! I think I'll make my last day my 60th day just to make it even.

I feel bad, but gas has gone up $1 a gallon in the first month I've worked there...and it just keeps going up.

And I was driving there over 2 years ago when gas was "cheap"! I am still driving there. I'm in DtD now, but they are paying much better that DLR. What city do you live in?

I live in Torrance. My commute is 15 hours per week & gas is $55 per week.

When I went into casting in January, they still had me on file from working at the Disney Store back in 2002. Recommendation for rehire, even though I had only worked there for around a month.

They asked me about it, but thought it was more funny than anything.

As long as you give a company a good reason, and give them notice, and don't pull any stunts before you leave, it shouldn't be too hard to get a job again.

have you tried considering an alternitive like carpooling maybe your not the only CM from torrance

Ah, Pixie. That's sad. It's been great seeing you around. But, just like everyone says- turn in your 2 weeks, and work out your 2 weeks. Nothing bad happens if you quit during your probationary period as long as work out your 2 weeks.

News Flash... I'm not working in the park now: I got a call two weeks ago that they were suddenly transferring me to the art department for a month. A week later I was out of attractions. I'm loving my new role. We do props for the shows and events, some attraction refurbs, and work with WDI on some projects. Its very cool, and I'm greatly enjoying my time there!

I'm like right near Torrance (PV) and I don't think I could ever stand driving to DL as a job, its not feasible even if you were making more than you are..with those gas prices...

So, I didn't turn in my notice. I went to work with it in my pocket & there were actually no managers in that day. I decided to see if I could just work weekends, but I just found out that I have to be available 5 days per week.

I think what I'm going to do is stick it out through summer since I substitute teach & I wouldn't be working otherwise. I do like it there & was really hoping this would be a jumping off point for me. I'm just going to take it one day at a time and watch the gas prices to see if it's worth it or not.
