reason I ponder this is because of pirates overkill and people saying this "fad" will die off. wondered if it's almost the same type of craze and hype with davy.

Pirates were, are, and ever wil be cool. Are we seeing a bit of overkill at the moment ? Yeah, but even overkill can't make pirates stop being fun. Which just goes to prove that it's a winning concept.
I think we can expect the pirate stuff to stick around for a good long while.
I had something else to say on the subject that was very deep but of course I forgot it the moment I went to type it :/
