    Disney's Real California Adventure

Just wrote up a piece on what I see are the challenges for the Disney Co. regarding California Adventure. As I was looking for a graphic, I found this pretty interesting piece of conept art as well. Anyone seen this before?

Check it out on my blog:

I just thought of this- was this concept art part of the preview center that was in the esplande? Anyone keep any photos of that?

Just an added thought- they'd better act fast, too, based on the new attendance numbers- and to prove they are serious. Sounds like the quick coming preview center will take care of some of this.

When I clicked on the link to your blog for a minute there I thought you were comparing DCA's troubles to The Passion of the Christ

I have photos of most all of the preview center artwork, and don't have this in my collection. It either wasn't there then... or I just missed it when taking photos (it happens).

When I first looked at the image, though, I thought it could be a concept art for the indoor "Hollywood set" entrance to Paris' Walt Disney Studios park. The lights and rafters give this more of a blatant set feel -- the lights at the WDS seem to be positioned in a way that screams "set" while Hollywood Pictures Backlot did not (which is why people never understood why everything was a fake front).

But then I looked at the street layout. On the left side -- that sure looks like the prototype for the building that currently houses the smoothie shop. And while we have a building directly to our right, there seems to be a gap on the left for the road that runs toward MuppetVision 3d and Monsters Inc. Sure... yeah, this does seem to be DCA. But then where is the Hyperion theater?

Part of me wishes that the rest of the HPB area had more camera gear and lighting rigs to sell the studio story. Heck, I think some of the thematic issues with Tower of Terror would be fixed with a camera rig and lights on the outside (over by the fastpass machines)... and a trainer with Rod's name on it. Then, we're on the studios and walk onto the set of a Twilight Zone episode... then as we enter the building become part of it. Monsters Inc. should have set up the filming and creation of the "sequel" . . . and then have that break down as we near the vehicles, walking in front of the cameras again and entering the world of the movie. It's weak, but it ties things together with a few props.

Granted, here it justs looks like the additional lighting and the rafters over the street are to make it look "hip" instead of actually looking like a movie set of Hollywood. In that way, I like what we ended up with better (although, it's not perfect)

And yes, I enjoyed your article. It brought up the problems DCA faces while being fair -- something I'm not used to seeing in reference to Disneyland's little brother.

^^ Thanks- I really wanted to think through the whole DL Resort including DCA redo issue before I wrote it. Your ideas about HPB, Monsters, and Tower are pretty good actually. Could have added alot of fun to the area. Can't wait to see what happens to DCA next...

Very nice piece, and I think it accurately conveys the issues at hand with DCA.

(Not to mention I too thought at first glance of the website that it was either Christian based or about Passion of Christ. lol)

^^ Glad you appreciated the DCA piece. If you read through anything else, you probably discovered that I post on various things- but I do have alot of Disney stuff to share. There will be more next week, too.
