Setting the record straight about Indy at Disneyland!!

Actually, not to rain on anyones parade, BUT...

Apparently, everything that we've read online that says there's an Indy Stunt Show coming to Disneyland, is not true! It's false! Lies I say!

Indy is indeed coming to Disneyland, and I recently had a talk with the one of the TOP MEN on the Creative Team of the "Indiana Jones: Summer of Hidden Mysteries," and we were able to clarrify a lot!

First off, get ready to start seeing "Adventure Maps" in the park. I'm not really sure what exactly these will be, but I'm guessing they could be a typical Disneyland park map with an Indy-esque overlay, or possibly an Adventureland specific map, similar to the one they recently released for Tom Sawyers Island / Pirates Lair.

Secondly, the Adventure kicks off on...you guessed it, May 22nd! As if we Indyfans don't have enough going on that day! Yep, May 22nd is the day that Indy returns to the big screen and will be making his appearance on the crowded streets of Adventureland!

Now lets talk a little about the show! While most Disney message boards have painted the image of this being a full out stunt show, that is not the case. Nor is it the case that there would be a show similar to the recent Pirates Lair show. Not even that scale. Why? Because we're in Adventureland. The smallest area of the park, and certainly the most populated. "We already have the Indy attraction in Adventureland, that's the big one. Our "show" is made to compliment the attraction," says the Creative Team Member.

The Indiana Jones Summer of Hidden Mysteries will be made of 2 different street shows! I don't know if I'm right, but I'm thinking they could be similar to the shows seen at the Disney Hollywood Studios on Sunset Blvd, or maybe even like "Laughing Stock" in Frontierland!

So what can we expect to see on May 22nd?? Well lets start with one show, the one that involves the female Archaeologist. Aparently, she gathers up some kids for an expedition, and they set off to find some artifacts in Adventureland. Only in the end, she pulls an Elsa Schnieder, double crossing her dig team. But don't fear, Indy makes an appearance and sets things straight!

The second show involves Indy, who is going after an artifact, but beware, Bad Guys are right around the corner, trying to get the artifact for themselves! This will consist of some hand-to-hand combat, on the rooftops, on the balconies, and possibly even on the rope bridge in Tarzan's Treehouse... Well, we all know how Indy will get out of that one! How awesome would that be?

Behind-the-scenes, I've been told that all members of the creative team are very much into making this an amazing experience for guests. The Creative Team Member continued by saying that "even members of the Art Department were coming over and saying they HAD to be a part of it, that it had to be true to the characters, that certain things would, or would not, happen in the world of Indiana Jones!"

That even while it may not be a large scale show, there will be a lot of "layers" to it. There will be little "things" added into Adventureland that only the die hard Indyfans will understand! So if this is done correctly, it could be very cool to find more Indy relics in Adventureland. All that's there now is the "Coronado" life saver that can be seen on the dock from the Jungle Cruise!

Long story short, the Disney Entertainment Department is very dedicated to making this a great addition to the summer entertainment. This will NOT be a permanent addition to the park, and is just a summer promotional piece and no word yet on how long it will stay, so be sure you don't miss it on May 22nd!!

    Hi. Voice of Eeyore here.

I think the CONCEPT sounds great but I think it's a disaster waiting to happen. If you have ANY type of show, stunt or otherwise, in the streets of Adventureland, i.e. the most crowded walkway in the park, especially during the Summer, people will absolutely, without question do the ONE THING that you really don't want them to do.

    They'll stop.

At least the Pirates thing was out on TSI where people had to travel across, taking more bodies off of busy walkways in order to watch it. Even when people would stop in front of POTC to watch it, there was ample room to walk around.

    Not so in Adventureland.

HEY! Here's an idea!! Since Indy is hot right now and the kids will relate to him, let's make Tom Sawyer's Island INDY island, and add snakes, and machine guns, and.....

Gee maybe they should have made tom sawyer island into the "ISLAND OF INDIANA JONES ADVENTURES" instead of pirates..............

Thanks for the info you have, BUT I might suggest that with the two different possible shows that you outline, you might want to place those in spoilers.

You mention that your perception is that most message boards have thought it was an all out stunt show. I really never got that idea from the info that was already posted or advertised. Of course it just wouldn't be possible to do something on as grand a scale as Disney Studios show in WDW. To most everyone here, it couldn't even be as large a scale as the Frontieland shows in front of the Golden Horseshoe, simply because there isn't the space for it.
In fact most everyone has been wondering from the very first mention is how in the world this would even be possible in the crowded Adventureland Street. You mention it might incorport the Tarzan Treehouse and the rooftops, and as great as that sounds, It's difficult to imagine how the high traffic and the lack of a viewing area on the Adventureland street would make this possible.

Al had made mention of the possibility of using Aladdins Oasis for the show, which really would make the most sense, as the viewing area is much easier to see and follow, than throughout the entire Adventureland street. Al also did mention that it would just be running for a very short time, and depending up the popularity, it MIGHT run a little longer. Of course no guarantees.

I do thank you for the info you do have and for sharing what you know, BUT
if this post sounds a little harsh, it's probably because for the past seven years, I've had an automatic gag reflex whenever someone even mentions the word "compliment", in the context of the quote you have "Our show is made to COMPLIMENT the attraction." UGGGG! THAT is EXACTLY what the Imagineers who created DCA, said, they wanted DCA to "COMPLIMENT Disneyland". Whenever DISNEY uses THAT word, it just has come to mean that they purposely do a horrible job in order to make the ORIGINAL look BETTER than it did before. tee hee hee!

the small shows will nto be announced so that people would not be waiting and blocking passageways. It would just be a surprised for the people in the area. Hopefully APers do not continually clog up the area to see the smal show

The OP's description of the stunt show is pretty much what I thought it was going to be when it was first announced. I'm still not sure what's going to happen though since this conflicts with Al Lutz's comment about the show replacing Aladdin's Oasis.
I'm literally a born Disney fan! I was born at Providence St. Joseph Med Center right across the street from Disney Studios in Burbank. The same hospital where Walt died.

I have also been personally told from an entertainment cast member involved in a certain adventureland show that the Indy show will be in Aladdins oasis and will only be temporary lasting until about fall/winter. It is not going to be in the streets.
