Are You 23 / D23 - Disney Campaign - What is it?

Since we know the Are You 23 campaign will contain a magazine, fan site, and Expo, who else thinks the whole thing was designed to draw users away from sites like MiceChat and events like the NFFC?

I find it VERY interesting that key members of several web communities and fan events were called to Disney for a briefing and forced to sign NDAs (to shut them up). Luckily, MiceChat was not one of those sites, and we feel perfectly comfortable expressing our opinion and letting you express yours.

Will R23 draw you away from MiceChat or will it create even more desire among new Disney online fans for a more expressive environment than Disney is likely to give?

Honestly? It's the first thing I thought of...a way to cash in on the fan forum community.

However, if it's anything like VMK's dictionary, then the posts won't have a lot of words allowed.

I'd still go to Micechat for information first. The chatters on here always seem to know more info than Disney releases anyway!

Dusty, I'm sure it's not the briefing you mentioned, but I did get invited to participate in an "Are You 23?" conference call, being held by Disney tomorrow at 1:00 (an hour after the official launch). On the call will be Steven Clark, executive editor of "Disney Twenty Three" as well as Dave Smith and Marty Sklar. Their participation tells me future issues of the magazine will have a decidedly historical spin, consistent with the vintage photo of Walt on the cover of the current issue and the obvious reference to the year he founded the company.

I'll be reporting all the info on MC, of course.

I think that Disney has probably found a way to cash in on the collector and Disney enthusiast crowd via the Disney Archives. I'd expect to see a lot of 'historical' stuff in the magazine, and many opportunities to buy 'exclusive' merchandise via membership in the club or society or whatever they're calling it.

I think this D23 is a total rip-off. Although I'm going to consider buying the magazine, I am NOT happy about this. $75 to join a club? NO way.

I guess $75 isn't too far off of other clubs though. It's $60 for the WDCC (or that's how much it was last year). And my sweetie and I pay $40 a person for the Transformers Club a year for which we really don't get anything unless they release an exclusive and then we can purchase it at club cost.

I tried going to the site as well and couldn't get on it.

I did however visit Barnes and Nobles and snagged a copy of the magazine. It looks really nice. I can post some pics of it if anyone would like.

Where are we able to purchase the magazine?

I went to get the magazine at 9am this morning at Borders and they didn't have it yet. The lady said they usually get the new stuff around noon!

I went to my Banres and Nobles at 11. It was on the rack, just put out. I had to go to the Customer Service desk to get someone to go to the register and she was asking the boy that stocked the shelves if he had put it out yet. I just held the magazine up and she started laughing.

In my store it was on the top tier in the magazine section. Sorry these aren't the best pictures, I took them with my cellphone as I'm at work:
