I was reading through D23 tonight for fun and ran across a little item about John Hench, who was one of my favorite Imagineers and one of the real geniuses of the Walt Disney Company. John passed away in 2004, but worked right up until the end.

While the article doesn't go into John's association with Disneyland, it does tell the fascinating story of how John became Mickey Mouse's official portrait artist.

It also points out that "one of John's early thrills was the opportunity to work closely with surrealist painter Salvador Dali on the aborted Destino project." Though Roy Disney finally completed it.

There is a photo on the story. Be sure to click the link under the image which contains some interesting photos. You can find the story Portrait of the Artist - HERE

Just wanted to share this little ditty about an amazing man and Disney legend.
