Re: D23 Sign Up Information

Thank you for the info! I'm not really into collecting anything, but the magazines and gifts sound like nice touches. I would love to attend a D23 Expo one day. Are non-D23 members allowed in?

Re: D23 Sign Up Information

I didn't join FOR the events, but I (wrongly) assumed that there would be at least a few events that a decent number of people could attend, and that would be reasonably priced. So far, that's been one event, the UP! all night at the El Capitan. The rest have been either impossible to get into (the Disney studio tour) or overpriced (Princess & Frog 'special' showing, candlelight event, etc)

The magazine started off good, but the last 2 issues have contained a lot of pages devoted to 'articles' about things Disney wants to sell, like vacation packages. I could easily get that information anytime and for free. The included freebies were ok, but not impressive. The first day pin was nice, but the patch, the paper fan and the xmas card...eh.

Anyone can go to the D23 expo, and while members did get a discount, it wasn't a significant one, especially since it turned out Disney was giving away tickets and bringing employees in just to increase attendance.

So, no, I don't think it's worth $75 a year (per person) for the 'privilege' of buying overpriced merchandise or event admissions. My husband and I each bought a membership and it's very unlikely we'll do so again. I think it started off well and greed and Disney's belief that every fan is just a faceless moron with a wallet took over.

However, I know some people love it and that's great. Serving size may vary, and all that :-)

What a load of propaganda! Disney let their cast members get in for $5 a day as a thank you to them, but remember that most Disney cast members who live close enough to go have to work, so the majority of them were only in there for a few hours. But no, Disney didn't give tickets away to their employees to increase attendance. That was a rumor that was started by an unhappy member, and sadly it was probably a Mice Chatter.

And I would say that a free day at the Expo IS a significant discount. If you went for all 4 days, you only paid for 3 as a member.
