I joked to the D23 team I should wear a tux and they thought it would'nt be a bad idea. I am going to wear a suit. I would rather be the one who is over dressed then the one who is way under dressed.

hahaha, yeah i'm questioning what i should wear too. i don't want to be underdressed either.

this is actually the second premiere for the film.
it "officially" showed for the first time at the los angeles film festival on the 28th of last month as the festival's closing film.
but it was very relaxed + casual. noah cyrus + frankie jonas, very the only members of the english-speaking cast present. nor were there any members of the crew/production.

    i'm so excited!
    i've got no strings.

A suit?! Considering the weather, I don't know if I wantto wear a full on suit. Maybe everything but a jacket.

Re: D23 Members Screening of Ponyo - now sold out

I'm a big Mayazaki fan and I didn't hear about this. Luckily, I have perhaps the best boyfriend in the world. We were at Disneyland to celebrate the 54th anniversary and his phone got a message and he abandoned me in line at Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. When we met back up, he said he had to take care of something. He was planning it as a surprise, but at the D23 event, everyone we talked to mentioned Ponyo tickets available that morning, so I put two and two together and he told me he got us tickets. The message he received was a Twitter update from D23 announcing that they were available. He ran to the business center at the Grand Californian to get the phone number to call. I'm so excited! We will be flying out that morning and flying home afterward using frequent flier miles to truly make this a free event for us.

Sorry, that was my fault . I'm always the one that ruins surprises!

Anyway, I got in too and couldn't be more excited!

As for what to wear - I've been to premieres in Hollywood and the range of what people wear is crazy. Some people wear jeans, others wear gowns. You'll pretty much fit in whatever you wear. I'll probably wear a skirt and a nice blouse.

It wasn't just you, *Arielle*. When I say "everyone," I mean EVERYONE. lol. But it's OK because I'm sure I would have figured it out. When he met back up with me, he said "You like Myazaki, right?" I don't think he has seen my collection of every Studio Ghibli film released in the U.S. (plus an import of Only Yesterday). And I'm still just as excited as I would have been if he had told me the morning of.

Does anyone get e-mails or anything about this? Or when the studio tour tickets were released? Am I missing out on something?
Like goofystitch said, I also got a Twitter update about this on Friday morning. I would follow D23 and sign up to get their updates sent to your phone, and I think that would probably help you.

Since the press will be there, I think they will allow cameras. Usually when you go somewhere that doesn't allow cameras, they tell you in advance.

Re: D23 Members Screening of Ponyo - now sold out

    From the official press release:

WHAT: A special screening of PONYO, a fun, touching and visually stunning animated adventure from Academy Award®-winning director and world-renowned Japanese animation legend Hayao Miyazaki.

WHO: From the Film: Frankie Jonas, Noah Cyrus, Cloris Leachman, John Lasseter (executive producer/co-director, voice talent, English language version), Hayao Miyazaki (director).

    WHEN: Monday, July 27, 2009
    Press Arrivals: 5:00 p.m.
    Celebrity Arrivals: 6:00 p.m.
    Film Screening: 7:00 p.m.

    WHERE: El Capitan Theatre
    6838 Hollywood Blvd.
    Hollywood, CA
The invited media coverage will be outside of theatre as always. There will probably be at least one still photographer and a video crew shooting expressly for Disney inside.

Having attended numerous premieres, special screenings and private events at the El Capitan over the years here are a few more typicals:

Special Screenings as opposed to full-scale premieres tend to be a bit more low-key. And bet at this one there will be at least one man wearing a Hawaiian-style shirt in attendance, so dress comfortably and fun. Usually the suits there will have left their agencies and studios late,

A check-in table behind the box office for cameras (and a reminder not to use camera phones inside) this is due to piracy concerns and celebrity guest courtesy. Perhaps this one will be more lenient or not.

Expect to be wanded as you enter the lobby

    Comp concession items

    A nice pre-show introduction

    A lovely parting gift

Enjoy everyone! And don't forget 'Ponyo' opens in theatres August 14th
