D23 Expo Construction Underway - It's Really Almost Here (First Look!)

I was just able to obtain this first look at the construction of the D23 Expo:

It may not look like much at the moment, but let me tell you why this is BIG news.

I'm involved with a lot of trade shows for my real life job. The average show is put together completely in about one and a half days (or less). The fact that Disney is already beginning booth and pavilion construction is a sign of VERY big things indeed.

Put on your happy faces folks, the D23 Expo is really REALLY on the way!!!

Since you are already there, maybe you can answer a question for me.

I know flash-photography is not permitted in certain areas. How is the lighting inside the convention center? I am wondering what settings I should set my camera to for the best possible pictures without getting blur or bad coloring.

Oh my gosh that is so rad

I can not be anymore excited for this expo... The thought that they are putting this much time into the setup is crazy... Just makes me that much for excited for what's to come!

not to nitpick.. but 'one to two days' would be relative to the type of show.

Our shows (also in the same convention center) bring us there 4-5 days early - and that's just to build our booths. But we're in tech. In that same show, some people show up the night before and setup their quick booths.

We start setup on a Friday for a Wednesday opening at InfoComm.

Disney will not only be building major events (theaters), but I am sure there will be adding lots of details that will take a lot of time as well. All this is very exciting!!

Geez, thanks Dusty -- I'm already having a hard enough time sleeping at night from all the Expo excitement. Guess now I'll be staring at the ceiling (and smiling like a fool) from now until Thursday morning.

Part of the reason for Disney getting early is this is not a typical convention. Most conventions have exhibitors who have entire systems for their exhibit areas. They can put some of those huge exhibits up in a day because they are constructed for quick install and take down.

Disney has NO systems like that available and they are essentially "winging it" in the set up of this expo. So they have to give their employees enough time to set the show up, basically from scratch.

Because it IS the first year for D23 it logically would take longer to set up. Next year should go a little quicker, since they should be able to reuse some of the setups being designed.
