Re: D23 Expo 2010?

I really hope the next one is still in Anaheim. Besides giving me another reason for a trip across the county to Disneyland, I think the Convention Center and its extremely close proximity to the parks makes it the best place.

Also proximity to Burbank/Hollywood.

Re: D23 Expo 2010?

I say they hold it in the summer (so there's no school) at the AsiaWorld-Expo (to give me a little bit more of an excuse to go to Hong Kong). If I am thinking correctly, this convention center is on the same little island as HKDL and the Hong Kong International Airport.

..and someone said on another board that there would be no Expo in 2010, but will be one 2011, in Anaheim. Of course, rumors are just fluff, so take it as that.

Re: D23 Expo 2010?

As far as I remember, Disney & D23 does have a 5 year contract with the Anaheim Convention center-then they will have the option to explore other areas in the 6th year- possibly near WDW.

I'm sure they will have one again next year- I'm assuming possibly around the same time period- but we won't know till the official news is released from Disney.

Re: D23 Expo 2010?

I have no idea when Disney is planning the next Expo. But unless they have a LOT of new Imagineering stuff to show the fans, they might be better served by waiting a year.

Actually, they did a great job on the Parks and Resorts displays at this year's event. I'd like to see them perhaps package up a part of that show and take it on the road. Perhaps re-purpose the Christmas Carol train and make it a Disney parks and resorts tour sponsored by D23. I doubt they'll do that, but it would be a great way of getting some extra mileage out of some great displays.

Then wait and do another big Expo in 2011 with models and info about the new Disneyland in China, new rides and experiences planned for WDW, etc. If next year's show is just a rehash of this year's show, I'm not sure that they'll be able to continue to grow it every year.

My thoughts exactly! I was glad to take part in the first D23 expo but I cant see them having enough new news to let out of the bag every year or atleast something worthwhile. So the every two years idea seems the best to me. But if there is one in 2010 then I for sure will be going!

Re: D23 Expo 2010?

If they announce Shanghai within the next year, they'll have plenty to talk about. And keep
in mind it's not only about the parks, it's about all aspects of the disney company. Movies,
Consumer products, even ESPN next year perhaps?

I hope if there is one next year that I can volunteer... How can you sign up for volunteering/how did people sign up?

They will need to spread them out if they expect the Imagineering (forget the Parks & Resorts title - people don't relate to that) presentation to be worthwhile. You also have to realize that preparing for the Expo costs a lot of money and takes valuable time away form actual projects they may be working on.

As for announced parks/attractions that they can showcase, that may be another issue. They may not have any significant models available during the timeframe of the Expo. And if they start trying to make Imagineering plan their design/production schedules around the Expo, that will cause a lot of animosity towards the D23 concept and may affect Imagineering's enthusiasm in participating in the Expos in the future.

As for ESPN and some other Disney Corporate business units, they may feel that it's not worth their effort, especially if Imagineering is the benchmark for what they are expected to provide for the Expo.

Re: D23 Expo 2010?

I don't know what they will have but I want to go! I could only go for one day this year so I did not get to experience it all. So IF they have one in 2010 I will be there!

Re: D23 Expo 2010?

I understand what some folks are saying about not having much new stuff to announce, so the expo should be every other year. However, maybe I'm in the minority here, but personally the new stuff is great, but I llike the vintage stuff better. So maybe there are only a few new movies to announce and some DCA updates or what not, but I truly enjoyed the other stuff. We missed out on the Imagineering legends panel...I would have gone nuts! and we enjoyed the Rarities presentation as well as the IASW discussion. The screening of "The Boys" was amazing and Mr. Sherman is such a wonderful storyteller! Why does the expo have to focus on the new stuff? Why not have Imagineers discuss inspirations and failed ideas for the parks or maybe have a screening of a movie that has not been released in a while and have a panel discussion with people who worked on that film?Have Dave Smith lead a discussion about the Archives or a Q&A session.Sure new stuff is cool, but I want to hear more from the Disney Legends as well as current Imagineers regarding the work they have done.
