2011 Expo and 2010 Special Event - Rumors

I've been catching bits and pieces of news on the wind - I'll bet we’ll hear some definitive news about the 2011 Expo on or around D23’s first anniversary (that’s when the Expo was announced last year). Rumor has it that D23 is planning a pretty big event for 2010 that will make members very happy, even if it isn't an Expo.

Personally, I was a bit relieved to hear that the Expo is taking a year off. I want these shows to be a big success and there just didn't seem to be enough new Disney stuff to populate an entire Expo so soon after last year's big event.

Sounds like they are in the planning stages of producing a stellar event to fill the Expo time frame in 2010. And that's a really nice step for them to be taking since there has been very little concern from the fans about no Expo being listed on this year's schedule.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about both next year's Expo and this year's special event soon. Thought you all might be interested.

Hopefully they announce the 2011 one early enough that we might be able to make it then. :)

And I'm curious as to the special event planned. It would be great if it offers an opportunity for out of towners to join in the fun.

Im hearing reports that Steven Clark said at the D23 1st Anniversary event at WDW tonight that the info for the next D23 Expo will be announced at the shareholder meeting. The 1st Anniv and also the same date as the DL event. Can't wait to see what they announce. It will be nice to hear something official.

I would be interested to know where exactly this big D23 event for 2010 will be.

Disneyland? If so, D23 members in Cali will be thrilled, but the rest of us....lol

The reports coming out of the anniv party at WDW tonight are vague. Anyone hear anything else? :)

Steven Clark did say tonight to expect an annoucement in 'a couple of days'. We'll see...

Yes Stephen Clark needs to be at the Disneyland event if can show up at the WDW D23 event then he he should make the time and not show at the share holder meeting in Texas What's up Stephen!

I'm sure it's possible to attend both if he needed to - it would just be a really busy day for him with a good amount of flying...

I believe that both of these events are being planned for California, but Disney is known to change their minds so you never know until they make an announcement (and even then it is subject to change). ;)

I fully expect the Expo to be back at the Anaheim Convention Center. It is the perfect location since it is next to Disneyland and close enough to Disney Corp and Imagineering in LA that they can really put on a big show.

There is also a MUCH larger local crowd of Disney fans in SoCal than anywhere else (except for, perhaps, Japan). ;) If they want big attendance, they almost have to do it in Anaheim until it really takes off in the way ComicCon has.

Even though we live in Indiana, we came to the Expo, and I have to say, Disneyland is the perfect place for it.

Where else could we have had the celebs, the archive exhibit, Imagineering, etc?

We will hands down travel back to Cali for the next Expo.

What makes me nervous is this big event for 2010! LOL

One less day than last year. Iger said it would be held in Anaheim. Assuming that means the Anaheim Convention Center?

Yeah, didn't catch that one less day, but it's good to hear that it's to return.

And just for clarification, when they say 2011 Expo, they mean next year right? Because other reports just say "D23 expo returning to Anaheim" bringing the assumption that it's returning this year...

EDIT: AroundDisney fixed their report to confirm it is indeed in 2011, so no expo this year for sure
