D23'S "Tribute to Roy E. Disney"

Celebrate the life and legacy of Roy E. Disney on the Walt Disney Studio lot with D23.

D23 celebrates the life and legacy of Roy E. Disney with a very special event on the Walt Disney Studio lot.

To celebrate the life and legacy of Roy E. Disney, D23 is proud to announce a very special event on the Walt Disney Studio lot. We will honor Roy with screenings of two much-loved films and special guests, and all Tribute ticketholders will be able to join us as Disney dedicates the Disney Feature Animation Building to Roy E. Disney.

After checking in, guests will be escorted to the front of the Feature Animation Building where they will have the chance to join Disney employees, luminaries and special guests for the dedication of the iconic structure as it is renamed the Roy E. Disney Animation Building.

Following the fanfare, you will be escorted back to the Studio Theatre on the main lot where Disney historian Stacia Martin will introduce the first, and only, True-Life Fantasy: Perri. The adorable film, which Roy worked on as both a cameraman and photographer, follows a little pine squirrel named Perri and her life from childhood to maturity.

After the movie, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy dinner inside the Disney Studio Commissary. A limited menu of freshly prepared edibles — including the famous chili Walt used to enjoy — will be available for purchase. After its opening on March 21, 1940, Walt himself used to enjoy lunch at the Commissary nearly every day he was at the Studio.

Following the dinner break, it's back to the Studio Theatre where Academy Award®-nominated film producer Don Hahn will reminisce about working with Roy before introducing a screening of Fantasia/2000. The film, executive produced by Roy, built upon the success of the original Fantasia — which inspired the look of the Studio Theatre — using vibrant animation, rich scores, and a few celebrity appearances, both live and drawn! Hahn will also present the animated short Lorenzo, about a sassy cat terrorized by his own tail, which Hahn executive produced with Roy.

It promises to be a memorable event, and we look forward to seeing you there.

NOTE: Available only to D23 Members in good standing. Members may reserve a ticket for themselves and one (1) guest. There are a limited number of tickets available. Dinner in the commissary is not included with the price of the ticket; guests who wish to enjoy dinner will need to bring cash or credit card for the meal. D23 Members will be required to provide their membership number when reserving tickets. Tickets may be picked up only with a valid photo ID AND D23 MEMBERSHIP CARD. D23 Members who do not bring their membership card may not be admitted to the event. Ticketed Members who do not attend the event forfeit their place as well as all experiences, benefits, and gifts associated with the event. All D23 Special Events are subject to change without notice. There are no cancelations or refunds, tickets are not transferrable.

Would love to attend this event. It sounds like great value! Dinner and a screening of fantasia 2000 is something I am very much interested in being that I've never seen the film.

My only concern is that it falls on a Friday and I need to make sure its a Friday which I skip class.

Who else is making plans to go to this event?

Roy E. Disney Tribute - Friday May 7th - Walt Disney Studios

Roy E. Disney was very special to all of us here at MiceChat and MiceAge. Without Roy's Save Disney campaign, we would not be what we are today. He very much set us on a path and we are still saving Disney to this day. He will be forever with us.

On Friday, May 7th, the Animation building on the Walt Disney Studio lot will be rededicated at the Roy E. Disney Animation Building. And to celebrate the occasion, D23 is hosting a tribute of Roy's work and life. Highlights include Fantasia 2000, the True Life film Perri, and the animated short Lorenzo.

Guests will be able to enjoy a meal at the studio commissary and attend the re-dedication of the feature animation building:

Actually, the way I read this is that the price of dinner is not included--that it just gives you the opportunity to buy dinner at the commissary.

    It nevertheless sounds very cool.

The food there is so-so. Not too bad though the risotto made me sick to my stomach once. I normally go for the Panda Express.

You are correct. The commissary will be open to guests but not included in the cost.

Yeah, I've been in there twice. The first time, I went and had panda express. I just find the inside to be quite cool, especially with the TV display setup they have.

The second time, I was working a gala event and they provided people working the event with a lunch meal. I had lasagna and that wasn't bad either.

Definitely going to be a cool event, but unfortunately can't go to this one due to its conflict with my class. I have my final due that day, so definitely something I can't skip

But do provide us a trip report I'd like to see who shows up for this.

This was a great event - nice ceremony and enjoyed the three films. Big surprise was the opening of the Disney Employee Center and the Studio Store to the D23 attendees.

Agreed, it was very nice. Maybe not $55 nice, but very very close.
