Does anyone know if you get something free this time or just more covers.
I thought that dusty once posted that d23 will not be doing a free gift on the last issue, but will resume with something on this one. I'm going by memory here, but if dusty would like to jump in and confirm or deny this, that'd be great.
I think the free gifts are a nice little treat. But I could seriously handle not having them in each issue too. I think the patches given away to mark the anniversary of that big Tomorrowland expansion were the coolest of the freebies. For me its the content that I'm more interested in seeing from the Magazine. And I feel the publication has come along way since the first issue. Hope more details on the upcoming issue will be released soon.
The D23 website has a preview up on its site of the new issue.
In the fall issue of Disney twenty-three, Editor in Chief Carmen Capone travels to Walt Disney Feature Animation to go behind the scenes of the making of Tangled, Disney's upcoming fairy-tale adventure.
You'll also travel to the headquarters of Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, California, for an eye-opening tour through one of the world's most revered creative epicenters.
You'll also take a trip back in time to take a special look at Walt's final inspiration: Epcot.
My hope is D23 will start tours of Imagineering. Maybe this article is the first shot. I am not aware of any D23 biggies at the Walt Disney Family Museum event this past weekend. Considering the panels consisted of Marty Sklar, Tony Baxter, Bruce Vaughan, Diane Disney Miller, the great Buzz Price, Dick Nunis, Matt Ouimet, Craig Russel, Jack Lindquist, and others it felt like a first shot at what should be the Destination D event.
Anyone else think that not using the 55th Anniversary of Disneyland as the cover is a complete missed opportunity? They did Donald's 75th birthday, but not Disneyland's 55th?
I hope they don't get into this trend of using the cover to promote the latest Disney movie.
I don't think so. For one, this magazine will be out after the anniversary. If ever, the last issue should've featured the 55th on the cover.
Second, I think by doing so, D23 would get bashed even more for being too west coast oriented. Just last year, D23 had an issue rich in Disneyland content, so doing it again may get lots of complaints.
By promoting a movie, D23 is able to create a common ground on their magazine that most people can enjoy (i.e.: Rapunzel, i mean Tangled, is not limited to the west coast, but is seeing an international release).
Just received mine, and I must say that D23 hit the ball out of the park with this issue! EPCOT Center with Marty Sklar and Ray Bradbury, Jungle Cruise, Fess Parker, WDI, and Xavier Atencio!!! I got goosebumps looking through it; they really struck the right chord for me with the content of this one.
And, for the first time I will actively seek to collect the rest of the patches given away with this issue. They are the 9 EPCOT Center Future World symbols! Hope to see them on sale at the next D23 event!
