So I'm a Charter Member. Ordered on Day 2, but I guess D23 doesn't give surprise "Day 2" pins to its members. I don't really visit the D23 site too much, certainly not on a weekly. I guess monthly is a more accurate average. And I never read any of my disney twenty-three magazine issues; the darn sturdy packaging got the better of my collector anal-retentiveness, making me want to handle them minimally. In '09, I enjoyed a free tour of the Studios and Archives and I attended D23 Expo (that name's still a mouthful to say).
In '10, I did far less D23 stuff. I'm still kicking myself for passing on the D23 "Mary Poppins" event at the Ahmansen that had the surprise appearance of Dick Van Dyke! I went to the Imagineering employee store but got caught off-guard by the masses of D23 members and their guests who attended, so I didn't get in that two-hour line to buy anything. And I had to miss the Destination D23 because ironically my family had already planned a get-together at Disneyland to celebrate my Dad's birthday that same weekend.
But over this past weekend, I went ahead and renewed my membership for a third straight year. I think it's pricey for the lack of events I ended up doing, but I chose to use my rewards dollars from my Disney Rewards Visa toward it, softening the pain in my bank account. I'm looking forward to attending D23 Expo again and hopefully other D23-sponsored events. I'm also looking forward to getting that watch! I'd love to have it now; I had to ship my smartphone for repairs over the weekend too, and now I can't tell time without a computer or car dashboard in front of me LOL! Oh, and I finally read a full issue of my disney twenty-three magazine; it was the TRON: Legacy issue. Discovered some cool articles in there that I really enjoyed. Maybe I'll read more.
So in a nutshell, that's been my experience as a D23 Charter member for the past two years. Anyone else renewing for a 3rd year too…or not?
