Disney just released its annual report and proxy statement. The shareholder meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2009 at 10 a.m. at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland, California.

I wonder if they will let that freaky old lady go off for a 1/2 hour again.

Normal hasn't happened in a number of years. Too many freeloaders wanting their pass into DL. Too many shareholders complaining about Disneyland (yes, there is some overlap).

Seems this year is Pixar's turn to shine as host.

One of the very reason's it is being located so close to Emeryville. Another reason for having it in Northern Cali is in hopes that a man named Steve Jobs will finally attend, although unlikely.

He probably cannot travel far in his condition. He can take BART. Paramount theater is two blocks from 19th Street Station.

Re: ShareholderMeeting

I am going, it's in my back yard so to speak...

There is a lot of interesting things in this report... While I have been away from the boards and reporting news - there has been a lot of changes...

Not all I am happy with... I like the spin that "2008 is one of the most profitable years on record" yet their free capital is down, and there is an obvious "brand" contraction on multiple levels... I will talk about this more later...

Re: ShareholderMeeting

Hmm, was looking at the things I need to vote on. Not sure about some of these things. Not even sure I want to vote the board back on. The only two I know are good are Iger and Jobs.

As for the other crap, not sure yet.

Re: ShareholderMeeting

This is my first year as a stockholder and the meeting is not far from home for me. I am thinking about going. I already called and have tickets at "will call" waiting. What can I expect at this meeting? Is this a bunch of long winded complaints or do we hear from the big dogs (Iger, etc.)? I hear they will be revealing the details of this "Are You 23" thing. Any merch expected? Freebies? Worth talking a day off work for?

1. Often, they'll show exclusive previews of upcoming films, in various stages of completion.
2. Yes, from a few specific shareholders (called "gadflies") who know nothing about running a business but know that they can ask questions at this meeting because they own some piddling number of shares.
3. Yes. Of course. Probably a more-than-usual number of Pixar folks, since they're about 5 (?) miles away.
4. Probably. Doesn't seem very exciting if it is simply the simultaneous release of 23 classic films on BluRay. That requires a giant marketing scheme?
5. Maybe. Nothing valuable, though.
6. Again, maybe. Nothing valuable.
7. Well, if you go, you will find out for yourself that it was a waste of time. But you won't know for sure until you experience it yourself. Hey, it's close by. Not as if you're flying somewhere for it.

Re: ShareholderMeeting

Great thanks!

Is it possible I might not get in? Too many show up? Should I expect a line of some sort?

Actually the last time it took place in Anaheim it was raining and the turnout was very low.

I was sitting over by some friend in WDI a couple rows from Tony on the right side of the stage. We were commenting on how empty it was. The seats on the arena floor were mostly empty and most the bleachers had very ltitle people in them.

WDW has not had a shareholders meeting for many years.

It seemed like Eisner moved the meeting to some strange areas because he was afriad of facing the major fans that used to go to the meetings and call him out on his mistakes

Re: ShareholderMeeting

Our tickets came in the mail with guess who on them??? Mickey Mouse.
We are very excited about going just for the experience , we will travel from roseville to oakland. My dh and I also grew up in that area and are excited to see the Paramount Theater again, and remmeber back in the day when the downtown area was alive and bustling with shoppers at I Magnins and Capwells , Woolworths etc...
