Angry Scaling back Miramax

Ok, ok, ok...

I think scaling back Miramax is a mistake... Here are the reasons:

1. Brand Recognition: Miramax is known more for being on the cutting edge of the film business... It wasn't about producing low budget films... Rather it gave artists tools to deliver their visions independant of the budgetary constraints of the big boy studios like Disney.

2. Marketplace saturation of the older "low budget" model. Sony is involved with bringing in asian market films, Lions Gate has a knack of producing some knock outs, The Weinstiens have kept their presence in Sundance, New Line is still in operation... Independant Movie channels now exist on cable...

I think it would be better to retool Miramax as your premire brand... The brand that Hollywood Pictures should have been before it closed. I really honestly don't see how Disney can pick up the slack... Because lets face it Touchstone is not Miramax durring the Wienstien years...

You need a big gun movie guy in the position of studeo chief... And you need to make better choices film wise... It isn't just about the bottom line... It is about making great films that people like to see.

CH gets off soap box...
