The release of this movie did seem to have all signs pointing to Disney using the cluelessness of the average consumer to sell a Blu-Ray disc. We knew from the beginning what each disc was, and decided to wait for the DVD ONLY version next month. When Blu-Ray is the ONLY version for home video, THEN I will buy Blu-Ray, and not before!

Re: Darn it! Bought Snow White Blu-Ray by mistake!!!

First off, why would you buy ANYTHING from Blockbuster??? Their DVD's are MAJORLY overpriced.

I got the same Blu-Ray/DVD package that you got for $12 from Amazon. Shipping Included.

Secondly, it CLEARLY says Blu-Ray on the packaging AND it's been pretty well known that the "DVD Only" version isn't coming out until next month.

Third, there IS a DVD version of the movie included, so you actually got 2 for 1 anyway. You can "try" and take it back, but I wouldn't count on being able to. I'd try your luck on Ebay but you aren't going to get your $32 back.

I dunno clicks.. as I linked before, look at the Amazon listings.

Look at the two versions of packaging... it's the exact same set marketed differently. Even from Amazon which is normally very good about their movie listings.. can you tell what you get Disc wise in those packages? I can't.

I've looked on other sites as well, and it's equally confusing on what Discs contain what.

I mean... what is clear about 'DVD/Two-Disc Blu-ray + BD Live w/DVD packaging'

That is the most confusing description I've ever seen.

1 DVDand 2 Blu-Ray discs. That is not confusing. The description says it is 3 discs, so obviously only 1 isstarbrd DVD.

Nothing confusing about the packaging line either. You can clearly see the difference in the 2 pictures.

The BD live part is confusing, since I don't know what BD live means.

Yeah, I don't find it confusing either.

Also, even with Blockbusters over-priced items, $34 should have told you right there it wasn't "Standard" DVD. Even those are generally $20-$25 with their mark-up.

Try finding that in the Amazon description.. it just says 3 Discs. It also doesn't say what Disc has what. So why do I have two Blu Ray Discs.. what do I get? It's as clear as mud. And 'DVD/Two Disc Blu Ray + BD Live' is confusing because it couldn't just say 'One DVD' ??

But it's the exact same product! You can clearly see what.. that two clearly different boxes both contain the exact same thing? How is that helpful?

That's the point, you think you are getting something different (because the boxes are different) but in reality it's the same exact product!

It's a 'extras' feature of the Blu Ray disc enabling Internet connectivity for content.

This is a DVD case. Inside it, it is customary to find DVDs:
http://www.uniquevideorental.com/Ima...00811887_f.jpg

This is a Blu-Ray case. It typically houses Blu-Rays and sometimes comes with a DVD of the film:
http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/image...f7f90210.L.jpg

Here is the Snow White Blu-Ray case. Nothing out of the ordinary about it:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51qDOvLmWOL.jpg

And here is the Blu-Ray masquerading in a DVD case:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51vhkamaJ7L.jpg

Again, it is obvious that it comes with a Blu-Ray, but the marketing makes it sound like it is a bonus Blu-Ray of the film, which has lead most consumers to think they are buying a 2-disc DVD set with a 1-disc Blu-Ray of the film. The spine of it says "Disney DVD" twice, but not Blu-Ray and stores put this in the DVD section, not the Blu-Ray section where it belongs. On the back, it lists the DVD specs first and since most people don't read the back before they buy it, someone just glancing over the bonus features is very likely to miss the part where it says "1-disc DVD, 2-disc Blu-Ray." It only says that once on the package and it is on the back. And finally, sales clerks at stores were not informed about the fact that these are the same, so at my local Best Buy, they were telling people that this is a 2-disc DVD with a bonus Blu-Ray. You might not be confused by it, but a lot of people are.

Re: Darn it! Bought Snow White Blu-Ray by mistake!!!

I don't see what all the confusion is about. Every single print ad and TV ad for this new package of Snow White plainly says that both the Blu Ray and DVD come in the package. I love this idea as I plan soon to get a 32 inch HD flat screen TV as the price has dropped so much. And I found Blu Ray Brand Name players at Wal Mart for as low as $168 to $178. That is not bad at all. I think this is a great idea as I can get the disc now and enjoy the DVD in my current system and then when the HD system is set up I don't have to go out and rebuy the package to get the Blu Ray version. It's smart business.

Sorry to hear that :O.

It's no fun when you don't have a blue ray player (such as I)....

Re: Darn it! Bought Snow White Blu-Ray by mistake!!!

People just have to look for the logo's. If it has the DVD logo it can be played in the DVD player. If it has both (DVD and Blu Ray logo's) then there are discs for both the DVD and Blu-Ray Player. It might take a few seconds to find them, but Disney prints the logo's for what players they can be played in on all their packages. In both images Flynni posted links to, they both had the DVD abd Blu Ray logo's printed on the cover. So that quickly told me the discs are blu Ray and DVD player compatible.

The point is that the OP can't watch any of the bonus features, which are only on the Blu-Ray discs. Unless consumers sit in the store and carefully read the back, which most people don't, then the front makes it look like a DVD release with a bonus copy of it on Blu-Ray. In actuality, this is a Blu-Ray release with a bonus DVD copy of the movie in a DVD case, solely designed to confuse people into paying for 2 -Blu-Ray discs they currently have no use for.

To someone who doesn't care to watch bonus features, they will probably have no problem with this (other then the fact they will be overpaying for a DVD come Saturday when retail prices go to $34.99). But to those who expected the 2-disc DVD set with a bonus Blu-Ray copy of the film, they are angry and disappointed and from the moment I heard about the different packaging, I knew there would be lots of confusion and anger towards Disney.

Re: Darn it! Bought Snow White Blu-Ray by mistake!!!

I saw this on the shelf and was confused, as I thought the Blu-ray was out now and the DVD was being released later. I only glanced at the package but I got the impression all the features were on the DVDs with the Blu-ray as a "bonus". I know better, but many consumers are going to be rightly pissed off.

Packaging the Blu-ray in a DVD case is clearly misleading people, as demonstrated by the photos posted by goofystitch. The sticker says "this combo package also includes a blu-ray of the movie". That statement combined with the DVD packaging clearly implies this is a DVD set.

Re: Darn it! Bought Snow White Blu-Ray by mistake!!!

Well the real thing here is, they are being far ahead again. In the very near future DVD's will be as obsolete as VHS is now. Blu Ray is the future and with both the flat screen HD TV's and Blu Ray players dropping to $378 for a 32" Flat Screen TV and BD Players dropping to $178 they are no longer out of the average Joe's ability to buy. Even me who is living on Social Security can afford these now. And the $178 player I saw is 1080dpi and Live ready with Internet connection. That's pretty good. You might as well face the facts that within the next 3 to 5 years you are going to have to get an HD TV and a Blu Ray player if you want to watch movies at home. Blu Ray is great and I can hardly wait to get mine and am buying DVD/Blu Ray combos whenever I can for future purchases. And for new movies just coming out later this year, I will get the Blu Ray version if that they don't offer the combo package as I plan to have both the TV and the BD Player by the end of the year.

Re: Darn it! Bought Snow White Blu-Ray by mistake!!!

Both configurations contain the same discs, ONE DVD and TWO BLUE RAY discs. I was looking at them at Wla Mart yesterday, and they are the same the only differance is the way the cover describes them.

DVD + Blue Ray

Blue + DVD

I think panic is starting to set in on the studios in regards to blue ray, it's not selling, so they are having to snooker the general public into mistakening buying a blue ray disc (which they didn't (have to) do with Sleeping Beauty or Pinocchio.

Our local Wal Mart reduced the shelf space for blue ray, and gave it to $5 DVD titles (which for some strange reason seem to sell boat loads more)

Blue ray's days are numbered

(hey I still have my Snow White Platinum edition DVD... I think I'll watch it tonight)
