Not enough to save the format, nor enough to save the Studios.

I am really over this. Yet again nothing you have said means anything to me, just your opinion.
I starting to think perhaps, your intentionally yanking our chain at best to watch us fall over ourselves for the dislike of the blue ray disc, or at worst a mole from the blue ray marketing camp.

Nah. Just the online-forum version of plugging one's ears and shouting "Neener-Neener-I-Can't-Hear-You!"

Yes it is -- just so long as I don't have to try to explain Blu-Ray again to my mom!!

Could you find anything factual in anything said? Nope, therefore, nothing mattered. Speculation doesn't have the power to change an opinion.

All those 'growth reports' are nothing but speculation, and they usually get it wrong, other wise I would be driving to work in my flying car.... instead of Herbie the Love Bug.

Well, half of that statement is correct.

If sales figures are speculation money must be pixie dust.

Okay so you do you believe tangible media will be totally phased out within the next 10 years then? If so we can end this by agreeing to disagree. One day yes, soon, no.

I agree with that.

The fun thing will be that the journey from here to there will be a gold mine for nostalgia buffs. (Been to a computer museum lately? If you're someone who once proudly owned the only 2400-baud modem in your neighborhood, and had people come over just to watch its screamin' speed, seeing the old gear is a blast! And yeah, I still have my 8-bit Sega console from the 80's, RF output and all!)

MrSunnyBlack - your problem is you fail to acknowledge how the consumer market has changed since DVD came out. You go on about tangible media - who says tangible media has to be it's own movie format? The problem with blur ray and others is they try to tie the storage and the format together into a single entity they control.

Your tangible media could simply be Read-Only storage. There is no reason it needs to be some proprietary, licensed format who's licensing fees alone cost more then the competition's entire product.

You can buy music on simple FAT32 formated media devices today. Why would I desire a CD that is fragile, that I must lossy convert to get a portable version from, when I can get a version that is already encoded, and can be used anywhere, and I have my 'tangible' storage. It's also much more durable.

And with net access becoming as essential as the telephone was... the need for me to keep a local copy of something is even less important.

Go turn on something like pandora.com and then go back and question why you have hundreds of CDs or a radio on your desk, etc.

Blu Ray is doomed because it's born of a notion of singular control and self-serving interests. In the face of consumer driven technology, it will always look clunky and obtuse vs. things built from the start to serve a customer need.

Re: Darn it! Bought Snow White Blu-Ray by mistake!!!

Hmmm ... not sure what happened to my post on this earlier.

Anyway ... at Costco today, they only had about 5 of the "Blue" blu-ray and probably 50-60 of the "DVD" packages. I'm also noticing their Blu-Ray section is getting bigger everytime I go. And there are a LOT of Blu-Ray's priced in the $8-$15 range.

Re: Darn it! Bought Snow White Blu-Ray by mistake!!!

I agree with everything you said in that statement flynnibus, I do think having media that can be dispersed anywhere is the future of entertainment (the distant future) but I do not think, for lack of a better word, consumers are smart enough for that step. Many people still aren't tech savvy, many people don't understand the concept of jump drives, external hard drives, burning discs and purchasing something that only exists in a digital world unless you know how to utilize those things. The technology is there but it isn't common enough for the general public to be knowledgeable of it for it to be the only way.

If I was to explain that to my mother, father, aunts, uncles, their friends, hell even some of my friends the reaction would be, "What?", as well as the general consensus of the average consumer.

And how many of those people have ipods? It's not much further then that. Your 'distant future' is way closer then you think. That's the adoption curve ramping up as each new generation is significantly more immersed.
