Disney Mobile to launch with $50M in ads

When the industry invented MVNOs it dubbed their greatest strength branding, and Disney's soon-to-be launched Disney Mobile MVNO certainly boasts some brand recognition. The company says it's now backing that brand up with a $50 million media blitz from BuderEngel & Friends targeting moms eager to control their children's mobile phone habits. The specific target is parents with children aged 8 to 14. A survey conducted by Harris Interactive last year found that 12 percent of 8- to 12-year-olds have mobile phones while 49 percent of 13- to 15-year-olds do. Analysts say once a child turns 10 they are more likely to want the phone their parents have.

The MVNO's handsets will not have Mickey Mouse ears stuck on them, but rather sport a "discreet" Disney logo. Collectors' editions, however, may spring up from time to time. Content from the entire Disney content collection will be available on the phone, of course.
