Pirates of the Carribean:DMC at El Capitan

Hi everyone. Just got to tell you all I saw Pirates 2 for the first time yesterday at the El Capitan theatre in Hollywood. I know Sue did a review of this movie here and mentioned a cool little "surprise" in the beginning of the movie done only at the El Capitan. Let me just tell you it was in fact really cool what they did! I wont say what it is but I do suggest that you all go see the movie at the El Capitan since this is the last weekend it will be playing there! Enjoy!

I went to El Cap for the first time too to watch Pirates 2, it's quite interesting

Since this was the last weekend it is playing there I will tell you what they did below:

As you may have seen on Sue Kruse's picture review, the theatre is themed to the movie. Pirate stuff everywhere. As we entered they had a Captain Jack Sparrow face character. The interior of the theatre is also themed with plants, various pirate themed props, and cannons on either side. The theater curtain itself looks like the a map of the old world. A nautical themed map. As the theater goes dark, the map starts changing colors and several skull and crossbone spotlights shadow across the curtain. As this is happening, the pirates theme music (similar to the "wheel of fortune track" on the new pirates soundtrack) plays. Then, behind the movie screen appears a large illuminated skull which has a fire effect glowing on it. Then, several hanging pirate cages appear around the skull as well. Finally, the two cannons on either side of the theatre fire smoke over the audience. And, the movie starts!!!

Some of us actually liked the POTC 2 pre-show at the El Cap better than the movie itself...

I thought the whole experience at the El Capitan was great! (My wife and I went this afternoon.) There was also a display set up in the basement with some of the props and conceptual drawings from the film - very cool.

Are you certain this was the last weekend? I thought I read on another site that the El Capitan Pirates show was going to continue into August.

I was just there yesterday (seeing it for the 2nd time at El Cap). The show is going until (through) Sept 4th. Mainly cause a bunch of us are thinking about going again and asked what the last day was.

Hope this helps clear it up.

(Oh yes, the face characters and performers are now only on weekends)

Thank you. That does clear it up, since the OP in this thread said that July 28th was "the last weekend" Pirates would be playing there. That is completely wrong information, according to your post.
