Disney Magic...West Coast Cruise

So did anyone go to see the ship off? Mr. Newseditor and I have been on two cruises (DCL and NCL) and loved it when people were along the waterway waving to us and screaming out bon voyage!

I was on the "Media Yacht" and got to excort the Magic out to sea. I'll have a few pics to post in the next few days as well as my thoughts about the fanfare. There will also be a piece on MiceAge about it in the future.

I was there to drop off my girlfriend and her family, but couldn't stay for the ship to leave. I've already heard from her that everyone is having a blast onboard. Because of the media coverage, every guest received various "Inaugural Cruise" items and plastic hands to wave at helicopers. I will see if she will let me post pictures from the cruise when she gets back. I'll be there next Saturday to pick her and her family up, so I'll try to take some pictures of the ship getting into port.

Until then, enjoy these pictures I took:

I watched a documentary on how the Disney Cruise Lines came to be. It is quite interesting that the ship was built in two separate halves then brought together. These ships are huge!!

Frodo Potter and I were there!!! I was giggly as soon as I saw the ship. And, when we were standing at the crowded Port o' Call Village, worried about not getting a very good view, we scored 2 last-minute spots on a tour boat for $10 each, and got to escort the Magic out to sea!!!!! The adrenaline rush was worth far more than the $10, I assure you. And onboard the tour boat, watching the ship closely, I became 5 years old again. It was hard to even take pictures, because I was bouncing around so much, just from all the excited energy that I've apparently kept stored up for years. And I kept saying to my honey, "Look!!!! It's the big Mickey boat!!! We'll be there in just a week!!!! YAY!!!!" (I kept on about it for hours afterward - it's a good thing he loves me. )

Anyway, here's my pictures: The Disney Magic Inaugural West Coast Cruise

What time does the Magic set sail and when does it? Is it possible to walk somewhere and watch it leave? I haven't booked a cruise, but I want to take a ride down to the Port and see the ship while it's docked. Where do I go exactly??

It takes off from port at 5pm every Saturday for the next 11 weekends. The best place to go is Ports o' Call Village - take the 110-south to Harbor, turn right, and follow the signs to Ports o' Call, which is just west of the World Cruise Center. The ship passes right through the harbor by the village.

looks like after this summer, the Magic heads back to Florida- I was just checking out Hotwire and they are booking Carribbean cruises on in Magic for all of 2006. Too bad there wasn't more interest, I would have loved to see the Cruise line have a permanent port of call on the west coast.

Being that we own a Travel Agency and we sell Disney a lot......I can tell you right now....Disney is confirmed on building a new ship for the East Coast and will be sending the Magic back here to the West Coast in 2007. This is confirmed by Disney, but as always no guarantees till the ship actually returns. But I would place money on this one!

Oh that has been rumored for quite some time. My only concern is if there is a real demand for cruises like in Florida. I mean, they could go to the Caribbean, the Bahamas, Bermuda or Mexico...what do we have out here? Mexico and nothing else. I mean a costal cruise is cool but its quite boring and it is expensive with that maritime law. I've done that on a reposition cruise and it was fun but I also didn't expect much. And the waters along the west coast are extremely choppy for cruising. Alaska is out since the state is limiting the amount of cruises as well. Hawaii maybe? Probably not.
