I think this would be a wise move for the company.
Would this be near where the ABC-TV and KABC-7 studios are located now?

Yes - Imagineering is only down the road.

Re: New Disney Animation Building?

It may be a beautiful and well thought out design, but it did not meet the needs or desires of the people that were supposed to work in it.

The artists were asked what they wanted in a work space, and the #1 answer was windows. But there are no artist work areas with windows.

Look at the original animation building on the lot. it was designed so that there were lots and lots of windows for the artists.

So form over function beat out form follows function.

Re: New Disney Animation Building?

A good friend of mine said something about architecture and the design of office space.

"As an architect you must always be reminded that the utility of space is more important than showing your architectural prowess..."

And he had a point, why spend millions on a constructing an office that is less functional than existing office space in an exhisting building that you can purchase for far less?

Hmmmm I'm not sure about that. I've been in the original FA building on the lot too. The hat building had windows all over the place, and animators could see out of them. Maybe not every animator or artist could be sat next to a window, but windows were everywhere. In fact, a storyboard artist I knew when I worked there remarked to me one day during lunch who he felt the place as designed actually inspired animators and artists.

My understanding from another website is that it has a serious heating/cooling problem throughout the building... And like most disney office buildings of the period, it is difficult to navigate through the office space.

It is possable that the architectural inspiration may have a negative effect... Looking at Pixar (previously posted by Oggie) - one notices that inspiration for Pixar is not drawn from the building itself, but INSIDE the building... The building is somewhat plain, but it allows people to focus on other things they bring inside the gallery...

That is kind of funny. There is a story about the original animation building, and how the animators were opening the windows which was messing up the heating/cooling system.

Walts solution was to have all of the handles that opened the windows removed.

Okay, but I can tell you the building was actually comfortable, since I did work in it, no one was ever too cold or too hot, that I know, I never had a problem, and I can also tell you, from experience, that it wasn't hard to navigate at all. I mean, it was a really great building to work in, one of the nicest, and I never heard anyone complain about it once.
